Unsanitary conditions, misrepresenting description.

For all our numerous stays in different properties around the world, this is the first ever negative review I feel I have to write. Even before entering the apartment, while looking for the entrance, we (two couples) were shocked by the level of dirt we found on a small terrace and on the glass wall that faces the street. Everything was covered by a lot of bird droppings. Clearly, it has not been cleaned for a very long time. Alas, that was only a beginning. When we opened the door, we found things quite different from what we expected. Out of three advertised bathrooms, only one has a toilet. The only other toilet, a tiny one, is in the corridor.  But probably the main problem was a terrible sewage smell in the central bedroom, making it unusable. In fact, this smelly dumpy air felt outright unhealthy. Spending even one night in this place was out of question, to say nothing of the four that we reserved it for. Luckily, after calling a few hotels, we found another place and left this apartment, without even unpacking, less than an hour after entering it. We informed the host right away, in writing, about the situation and about our departure. In light of the fact that the property has been totally misrepresented and unusable, we asked for refund. We totally understand that any property has a cancellation policy and rightfully so. If a guest’s plans change, it should not be a problem for hosts. But not in the situation when the property has been misrepresented, is unhealthy and therefore unusable! To our attempt to discuss this with the host, we received a very nasty and threatening letter. What a way to start a vacation!  As a consolation, the place we went to as a result of our phone calls was excellent.
