La Bergerie (“The Sheep Barn”) – 12–14 people
A paradise built over 200 years ago with old stones, a peaceful and charming place in the heart of the ancient village of Saint-Denis d’Oléron, in the north of the island, surrounded by a more authentic and wild landscape.
A splendid grove of 10 palm trees on one side of the house, a shady garden with large pine trees, fig trees, and mulberry trees on the other, and a third outdoor area featuring a swimming pool and sun deck in an old sheep barn with an open-air design. Set back from the street, the property is a green and quiet oasis (enclosed by 3-meter-high walls) yet located in the town center, close to the daily market and shops (120 m—1-minute walk), the family-friendly Boirie Beach (400 m—4-minute walk), bike rentals (350 m—2-minute walk), the sailing club, the harbor, and restaurants (450 m—5-minute walk). Once you arrive, leave your car parked—you’ll be able to get everywhere on foot or by bike!
The house is 230 m² on a 650 m² lot and has 5 bedrooms (16 windows and French doors!)—sleeps 12–14. Originally a sheepfold, the house stays cool in summer thanks to its thick stone walls.
On the first floor: a first living room with a fireplace, followed by a large open-concept living area with a kitchen, a dining room (with a 3.5m table), and a second living room with a stove. There is also a beautiful double bedroom overlooking the garden, 1 bathroom, and 2 toilets. The house is equipped with a dishwasher, a washing machine, a dryer, and all the necessary amenities.
Upstairs: a large game room/TV area, furnished with tables and benches; 3 double bedrooms (160-cm beds); 1 children’s dormitory with 2 bunk beds + 2 pull-out beds (2 m x 0.9 m) of very good quality, 1 additional single bed, 1 bathroom with a toilet, 1 bathroom (shower), and 1 separate toilet.
Outside: illuminated swimming pool that can be heated during the off-season, 2 large separate terraces, BBQ, patio furniture, large family table, pool chairs. A shed is available to store your bikes and surfboards! 1 parking space available behind the entrance gate; a second car can be parked behind the house outside the walls.
Mandatory end-of-stay cleaning fee: 240€ (not included in the rental fee).
No smoking inside the house. Pets are not allowed. The swimming pool and garden are maintained weekly.

The village of St. Denis d’Oléron offers beautiful and varied beaches: quiet beaches on the east coast with a family sailing school and a marina (5-minute walk), as well as beautiful waves on the west coast (14-minute bike ride) with a surf school. You can also explore the island’s many attractions, such as the Chassiron Lighthouse (13 minutes by bike), the Château d’Oléron and its artists’ cottages, the fishing port of Cotinière, Fort Boyard, Saint-Trojan… and La Rochelle by taking the ferry from the port of Saint-Denis.
The market in Saint-Denis, a 1-minute walk away, is open every day during the season or on holidays, featuring succulent oysters at unbeatable prices!
