Not value for money, if you are opting for breakfast

I recently stayed at this MEININGER hotel Zurich and feel compelled to share my experience, particularly in comparison to another MEININGER property in Berlin where I had previously stayed. While MEININGER hotels are known for offering consistency and value, this particular stay left much to be desired especially considering I paid nearly three times the price of my Berlin visit. Room & Comfort: Let’s start with the positives. The room itself was nearly identical to the one I had in Berlin. Same layout, same basic furnishings, same comfort level. The beds were adequate, the furniture minimalist, and everything was clean and functional — exactly what one would expect from a budget urban hotel chain. In this regard, MEININGER delivered on consistency.

Breakfast: Where things went downhill was the breakfast and it was a major letdown. It’s clear that cost cutting measures have been prioritised here at the expense of guest satisfaction. The offerings were shockingly subpar and far below what I would consider acceptable for a European hotel. Lack of Fresh Items: Most of the food appeared to be straight from the grocery store shelves — pre-packaged, unpacked, and served without any added effort or presentation. No fresh pastries, no made-to-order options. Poor Quality: The eggs were a particular disappointment. Instead of creamy scrambled eggs or freshly prepared options, they served overcooked boiled eggs that were blue in the center, a clear sign of poor preparation. Fruit & Vegetables: The only “fresh” items available were sliced bell peppers and cucumbers. All other fruit came from cans, lacking both taste and texture. Juice: There was no real juice available. What was served was a watery, sweet soft drink vaguely resembling apple juice — but even that lacked flavour. I actually raised this with a staff member, and after tasting it themselves, they admitted it was indeed substandard. Given the significantly higher price I paid, I expected a better experience — or at the very least, the same standard as the MEININGER hotel in Berlin. Unfortunately, this Zurich did not deliver. While the rooms and comfort level were similar, the breakfast was well below par and, frankly, unacceptable. If breakfast is important to you, I highly advise against including it in your booking. There are better alternatives nearby, both in terms of value and quality. This MEININGER location has some serious work to do to justify its pricing and maintain brand standards.

Comfortable stay with a good environment, nice room, appreciate that the kitchen is open 24x7.

The kitchen is a little too tight, especially for the number of people that use it. Waste a lot of our time prepping the meals and the washing the dishes as peak time quite a few people use the kitchen.

Adequate in the sense of fit for purpose!

Perfect location visa vie public transport, as well as the easy access to the Swiss freeway system. Room is very basic, but sufficient for our need to explore Zürich.

Breakfast could be improved with healthy fresh foods, as most of it is poor quality processed foods that I avoid by default. I think hotel management should not permit its clients to be outside drinking and being noisy after 22:00 h, as it is very uncomfortable if one wishes to sleep with an open window, as well as it seemed to annoy people actually living in the Greencity.

The stay was bad with the amount of money paid

The location with the train line next door.

The staff kept us waiting in spite of a room being available for early check in despite paying early check in fees. The room had no glasses, cups, tea/coffee dispenser, no slippers etc. The room was warm as the air-conditioning could not be controlled from the room. Except for the bed, there was nothing in the room. The breakfast was very average with only boiled eggs. No eggs to order etc.

Comfortable stay

Modern, colourful and cute hotel. Train station to go the city centre and to get to the Adliswil-Felsenegg cable car is just about 5 mins walk from hotel. A Spar supermarket also just about 5 mins walk. The staff are really helpful

Noisy, mostly hostel than a hotel ...

New, fresh renovation and facilities.

Hotel is located near the railways, so you hear every passed wagon. Closed windows wont help. Parking paid additionally $25 per night, not easy to find the entrance. Public parking near the hotel is cheap, but doesnt accept card, only frank coins. Breakfast is good, all needed food is available. Toilet and bath room is large and very good.

My first time in 🇨🇭 and after that it definately won’t be the last!

First of all, I loved how it was only a short walk from Manegg station, nice quiet surburb of Zürich. Right next to a SPAR and Migros which is handy, the room itself had a wonderful view and the bathroom was lovely.

My only concern was that for a room to myself there was 2 Single beds pushed together and it was difficult trying to use both so in the end only used one.

I think that in an effort to be the “environment friendly” hotel they did a bad job turning the water pressure on the shower crazy low, making the act of taking the shower not pleasant at all.
