GlenMyu Estate

Zeer lekker biologisch (groenten, fruit, kruiden uit eigen tuin) en versgemaakt eten. Onze favorieten waren de (zelfgemaakte) ravioli met pompoen en tomaat, curry met scampi, chocolade-ijs met kokos, kokoscake met ijs, chocolate bars, ….. Ontbijt was zeer uitgebreid en super lekker: versgebakken baguettes (beter dan in de bakker bij ons thuis), brioche broodjes, chocolate buns, vers fruit, vers sap, goede koffie,…Zeer aangename gastvrouw-en heer, alsook personeel. Zeer vlotte service (snelle bediening, gerechten komen gelijktijdig, er werd aan alles gedacht) wat niet vanzelfsprekend is in Sri Lanka. Accomodatie (Engels) en hulp bij de uitstappen. Wij vonden de treinrit richting Ella en de Nine Arch Bridge erg leuk. Onze absolute favoriet was waterval Diyaluma (pooltjes om te zwemmen en rotsen om af te springen in het midden van de natuur). Heel mooie en luxueuze accomodatie in de natuur met prachtige tuin en uitzicht. Zwembad is erg mooi en aangenaam. Er leven 9 rescue dogs op het terrein, een heel mooi initiatief en nog leuk ook. Ligt wat verder van Ella, dit vonden wij eerder een pluspunt. Met de tuktuk geraak je overal voor een zeer goede prijs.

Alles was goed, nog enkele kleine opmerkingen. Weinig verduistering in kamer, soms een beetje warm (geen airco, enkel fan; ‘s nachts koelde het wel goed af).

Michael and Ruwanthi have truly created a little piece of paradise in Haputale. From the moment we arrived, we were treated not as guests, but like family. Their warmth, kindness, and genuine passion for what they do shines through in absolutely everything — from the thoughtful attention to detail around the accommodation, to the care they show each guest personally. The accommodation itself was spotless, beautifully furnished, incredibly comfortable, and had easily the best view we experienced in Sri Lanka. Waking up to that scenery every morning felt unreal! And then there’s the FOOD. Every meal was exceptional - Ruwanthi could easily open her own restaurant and give many establishments a run for their money. The flavours, freshness, and love put into every dish was remarkable - please do not give their meals a miss when staying here! We also loved Ruwanthi’s informative cooking classes and garden tour, which were both fascinating and so thoughtfully conducted - so much heart has been poured into creating a meaningful experience for their guests. We stayed for 2 nights, and but this was nowhere close to the amount of time we really needed to fully soak everything in, and to get to know their adorable dogs. Wished we had booked a much longer stay (next time!). This was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka, and we cannot recommend it highly enough!

What’s not to like :)

This was our favourite stay in Sri Lanka! The house was incredible, set in the mountains with the most spectacular views. Ru and Mike were very welcoming from the moment we arrived and we soon settled in like it was our own. The food was the best we had in Sri Lanka, and the gardens and pool were gorgeous. It was also in a fantastic location, close enough to a lot of the major towns, but without being in tourist hot spots like Ella. This really felt like a home away from home and we gained such special memories as a family that will last a lifetime. This is our first time staying but certainly won’t be our last. Thank you so much.

Nothing- everything was absolutely perfect!

GlenMyu estate is an absolute gem of a property. Stunning location and views from the amazing house. The room and bathroom were fantastic, clean, so comfortable and waking up to the views across the mountains fabulous. Michael and Ru looked after me so well with a tour of their amazing garden. The dogs were an added bonus too! The food was the best that I had in Sri Lanka and Ru went out of her way to provide lots of Sri Lankan treats and I was sent away with enough for my lunch on the day I left. The swimming pool is fantastic and despite the rain I had a lovely swim followed by a very luxurious bath.
