Kyo no oozora FUKA

It has been a childhood dream of mine to stay in a traditional Japanese house, and Kyo no Ondori FUKA did not disappoint! The host met us as soon as we arrived and was exceptionally helpful, providing all the information we needed about the house and the local area. We absolutely loved both the house and the garden - so beautiful and peaceful. ​I had read a few reviews where people complained about noise from the school opposite, but we stayed during the school holidays, so it was completely quiet and wasn't an issue for us at all. We slept in the traditional room on futon beds for two nights, and they were really comfortable, we honestly slept like babies and it gave us that real traditional Japanese feel. ​Location-wise, it is very close to a bus stop with a direct route to the Gion district, and the subway station is just a ten-minute walk away.

When I was searching for a traditional machiya, my only real requirement was an outdoor bath. I wouldn't really class the bath here as "outdoor"—it's in a room that is almost entirely enclosed, apart from a large window near the ceiling that stays open. We still enjoyed using it, but we did miss having a true outdoor bath experience.
