Tuffonelblu

Tuffonelblu has three flats and we stayed in the largest (3 bedrooms) owing to my own mistake with the booking dates. We were hugely grateful to the owner for making a swap possible at the last minute, as we had booked the smallest unit (for 2, with a sofa bed extra). Having a quick look at the small property which was much smaller and quite dark I'm glad we moved and the additional cost was just about bearable. On the other hand if you are a couple on a budget the small unit would be fine. You'll be spending most of your time out and when you're home you'll want to keep out the sun anyway. The big unit is obviously a pet project of the owner, high on design, comfortable, spacious and well-equipped, including many gadgets we didn't need. It seems mainly to be let to Italians and without Italian you may struggle with the computerised air conditioning -- but then I'm speaking on behalf of an older generation, so maybe it's no hassle at all. The beach is just across the road and you can swim there night and day. It's not the best beach but with a pair of swim shoes you can get over the stones with ease. It's all the same Mediterranean once you're in.

I would have liked some local information. We found out where the best beach was quite by chance and the same was true of the trips we made -- I researched them before we left, which was lucky. For anyone visiting busy, modern Ventimiglia don't miss the old town Ventimiglia Alta on the hill across the river. That's where the charm and the history lie. I also thought the extra charge for sheets and towels per person on arrival was inappropriate and annoying, especially as I only became aware of it after I had booked. It didn't spoil anything but I found it petty. Don't forget you'll also be paying local taxes, so there will be a bill to pay as soon as you arrive. I must once again thank the hosts for helping us out of a difficult situation when we arrived a day early by mistake. I would only add though that as a rare person who doesn't have a phone I find any arrival process that depends on phoning pretty impossible. It's why I normally choose hotels with staff.

L'emplacement à proximité de la plage, du marché et de la ville. La réactivité de notre hôte, lequel a fait le nécessaire pour rattraper les choses.

La propreté à notre arrivée. Le ménage n'avait pas été effectué (poubelle pas vidée, frigo avec encore des denrées, linge de lit pas remplacé, etc...)
