Location, parking and the staff on the day
Single room as booked but the rather ornate bedside light had a lead so short that the switch was hidden behind the bedside table. I had to pull that out to find the switch. Likewise the baggage rack was unusable - a simpler one and a couple of hooks elsewhere would be better I think. I suggest the manager should sleep in this room to test it.
Major issue was I arrived at 3pm for an afternoon nap, as did two more guests. Open from 3pm is published on Booking.com and the Pub's web site. But the staff arrived (as instructed by manager) at 4pm, quite frustrating. Staff were good - web info was bad.

Convenient location for my training course. Wonderful Saxon Church 5 minutes walk away.
Breakfast was nice and the room was lovely and warm.
Noise from the pub below was very loud and really disturbed me when trying to get to sleep. Sounded like there was a riot going on downstairs!!
Bathroom was quite rundown and the shower didn’t drain properly, so had to be very quick.
The bedroom blind was very thin and not a great fit and so didn’t prevent the bright outside light of the pub beaming in around the edges.
WiFi signal wasn’t very strong and so intermittent, which was very frustrating.

Nice bar area, comfortable bed
Room and bathroom could have been cleaner. No staff at breakfast, nobody greeted us or showed us to our table or showed us where the cereal, juices etc were. Waited 15 minutes before someone came out, it was the manager/chef. No 'Good Morning' just do you want coffee or tea and your breakfast will be out shortly.
Nobody to check out with either.

This is an extraordinary place, three in one really. From the outside it just looks like a village pub. It is a lively village pub, full of locals. Noisy? Well not too bad (couldn't hear them upstairs) and just having fun. A wonderful vibe I thought. It is also a great restaurant, with lovely food well prepared and with exceptional presentation, and a nice quiet dining area. The rooms are lovely. OK I had the single, and they are seldom very big, but this one is nicely done out, clean, comfortable, and everything works. All you need en route when travelling solo. The double rooms and family room look beautiful. Really nice. You have to try this place. Its a real find. And good value for money too. Brilliant.
Before going I was bombarded by e mails about nothing much. I found that a bit irritating. Nothing else. I would definitely stay there again.

The location was great as we were attending a local event. The rooms are old fashioned and a bit dated but the bed and bedding was good quality and we had a great night's stay. The breakfast was excellent
It's a room in a pub so as expected it was a bit noisy

very friendly pub, made to feel welcome. Great selection of drinks, food menu looks lovely and what we saw come out looked delicious. we did have breakfast, and that too was faultless. can also help yourself to fresh fruit, yoghurt, and cereal 😋
our room was cosy, and had everything in we needed.
would definitely stay here again.

I have a short stay in the area each September for a fishing trip.
The hotel I have used for years has gone downhill recently so I booked the George on the strength of online reviews.
The location was perfect for my needs with plenty of car parking, although the car park was busy when I arrived as the pub was full with people having Sunday lunch. I had no problems parking for the rest of the trip.
The single room was comfortable, quiet and had a decent shower.
The room was not serviced for my 3 night stay but I was asked every morning if I needed anything for the room.
I have a medical appliance which resulted in some medial waste for disposal which was attended to quickly and discreetly on request the following morning.
The breakfast and evening meals were good, especially the Sunday lunch on my arrival.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful, especially the lady on breakfast duties.
I will definitely stay here again.
I was happy with all aspects of this pub.

the food and service was excellent
the room needed updating - the walls and skirting was covered in dust -windows did not close properly - dust cobwebs hanging from the ceilings - been there for months -needs a new cleaner to give closer attention to detail

The breakfast was fine, but some of the foodstuffs appeared to be running out - the orange juice, for example. The room appeared well furnished and appointed.
Unfortunately, we were both itching rather badly for the following few days and we suspect that we had been attacked by bugs of some sort while we slept (we did sleep well). Our arrival, after being held up by motorway traffic, came about five minutes after the closure of the kitchen (about 6:00 o'clock). We had to travel to a nearby town where we found a decent meal. The bar closed very early and some surprise was shown when we went in for what we had hoped would be a couple of drinks. We just had one drink as the welcome appeared somewhat dimmed.

The location was where we knew it was as I come from Andover, it was where my relatives are so in between them all.
I really don’t have breakfast but I did have toast, the bread was not toasting bread so thin it was like eating a piece of cardboard,
The room was clean but the toilet seat wasn’t attached to anything, my husband had to take it off when he needed to ‘spend a penny’ as the lid wouldn’t stay up.

Bar staff were friendly and helpful
Room was dirty dust on all flat surfaces and in common areas. Cobwebs on lights and windows, bugs in the bedding, breakfast was poor, chefs clothes were dirty. Checked out early as could not stay any longer. Sock on floor on hallway, carpet threshold leaning on entrance door and dead bird in carpark just underneath kitchen window, probably had some of the food.

Location for BSB racing
The place was dirty, food was substandard and chef sat in the bar in-between cooking with his dirty apron on and picking his nose! Then went back in the kitchen which he had the doors wide open near the smoking area where the ash was flying in the wind, and flies all in kitchen. Kitchen looked filthy . The next morning we went down to breakfast, no one around and had to go looking for someone,to which he looked annoyed that he had to make us coffee... The breakfast then came out and had a big black hair in my avacado so it put me off. The chef came out with it and putting it down his clothes and apron was filthy and greasy long hair no chef hat or hair net and not tied back. Hence probably why I ended up with a hair in my food.. this place should not be on your books

Friendly staff, nice beer garden. Food at dinner and breakfast was good quality and well prepared.
I can only assume the single room is rarely used given how many cobwebs were across the tops of the walls in the bedroom and bathroom and ceiling light fitting.
Rooms are to the front of the property and as such all noise from the main road can be heard in the bedroom. The couple next to my room had a dog staying in their room and when the couple arrived back at 01:30am the dog was excitable and needed to be let out. While that and the road noise isn't the hotel's fault, I would recommend earplugs at the very least.

Great beer, fabulous evening meal and breakfast. Staff were super friendly.
Room needs a real update, bed not at all comfortable and the road noise was terrible.

the staff were welcoming and very nice -worked very hard to provide high quality of food and service , the breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice
the room is dated especially the bathroom -but the worst thing is the cleanliness -dust and cobwebs -the room does not look as if it has been hoovered for weeks - which is a shame with a bit of proper cleaning it would have gained a better review, we should have complained at the time but was glad to get to the next hotel

Arrival greeting was warm and friendly, The room was clean, comfortable and reasonably cool considering the temperature outside. The well supplied Courtesy Tray in the room was also impressive. Our evening meals were both good quality/quantity and tasteful. The bed was comfortable and we both had a good night's sleep. The full English Breakfast was also very good the following morning,
The only real challenge was securing a parking space on site due to the clear popularity of the venue. Once that was achieved, then it was time to relax.

After some initial doubts from hubby (we had come from some modern/upmarket hotels in our trip) we loved it here! It’s an old fashioned English pub, not the classiest but it was comfy and had a surprisingly excellent chef on site. The owners have done their best to update it without losing its charm. And let’s face it, the price per night for accomodation is very reasonable.
To be totally honest, housekeeping wasn’t the best! The room only got a very quick makeover each day without much attention to detail, and the pub bathrooms downstairs were pretty grimy! But hey, not a biggie.

Helpful staff. Homely, friendly pub with really excellent food. Spacious room. Off road parking. Bed very comfy. Bedding and towels spotless. A great location to break up our journey to Devon.
With a few easy improvements the overall impression would be much higher. Decor in our bedroom very tired, just needed a top up of emulsion. The bedroom carpet needed thorough hoovering and there was a lot of dust behind the radiator. (I wouldn’t usually check this but used radiator to dry clothes - they were covered in fluff).

Water drips in toilet in room kept me awake.

Good breakfast and evening meal and the wi fi was good too. Easy to find and not too far to Salisbury in the morning after breakfast.
The sink plug was a bit awkward and the smokers from the pub below congregated below the window to my room so I had to close the window to stop smoke coming in
