The Location was perfect, very close to restaurants and a supermarket and Piazza Duomo. The host was extremely kind and responsive to texts. The bed was comfortable and the shower was a good size.

This felt straight away like staying at your Sicillian nonna - a charming apartment just off the Siracusa/Ortigia's high street with everything you need for a day or week in the city. Comfy master bedroom, spacious kitchen/dining area, extra living room I did not really use, private open terrace and a sufficient bathroom. Coop supermarket (open 7 days a week) literally 5 meters away, most of other Ortigia's sights within 10 min walking distance.

During the winter (January), the apartment might get cold, but that's to be expected. There are two A/C units with heat pumps to get the rooms to your desired comfort.

The place was a lot bigger than I expected which was a nice surprise. The roof terrace was a lovely bonus and the area was quiet at night. There is a large lamp-post outside the bedroom, as another review said, but all you need to do is close the external shutters and then there is no problem with light at night. The kitchen was also well stocked, although some basics like coffee would have been a nice addition.

I spent quite a lot of time Whatsapping the host about money and how to pay which isn't really what you want to be doing on holiday. There was the offer to cancel the booking and pay a bit less in cash (as another review mentioned). This made me a bit uncomfortable and I wasn't sure I would still be protected by Booking.com should something go wrong or if I wasn't happy with my stay so we didn't go for this option. It did occur to me that maybe the reason why this place has so few reviews might be because many people choose this option and then are unable to leave a review about the pretty uncomfortable bed or the smell of restaurant deep fat fryers that comes in through the bathroom window if you leave it open, or the extra linen charge the host tries to get you to pay even though it is included in the initial fee with Booking.com (the host tried to say this was the charge for just one person's linen but we booked for two people and our booking clearly said that). In the end, the difference between paying with the booking intact or paying with it cancelled was negligible and not worth the hassle. It's a shame because the place itself is a good deal for location and the space itself, but was marred by too much back-and-forth about money everyday. I just wanted to pay and relax.
