Casa de Maruja is run by Maruja and her wonderful family, a group of local mountaineering leaders responsible for growing the mountaineering profession in Huaraz and beyond. Maruja and her family were warm, welcoming, and helpful, and Maruja spoke with us at great length about the history of her family and their involvement in mountaineering. They organized an early breakfast for us, as our flight was leaving early, and recommended a delicious local restaurant for us to have dinner. Highly recommend staying here.

I couldn’t recommend this place enough. Originally booked 2 nights but ended up staying 5. We arrived early in the morning from a night bus and they let us check in our room straight away and get some well needed sleep. Arranged multiple tracks for us and cooked us some lovely meals in the evening. So accommodating and kind. On the last day our bus didn’t leave until late in the evening, they told us we could keep our room so we could shower etc before we left, all free of charge. They really cared and wanted your experience to be the best it could be. 10/10

Gilf and Maruja were the loveliest hosts, went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. Best accommodation I’ve come across in Peru so far. Very homely vibes, I felt safe especially when feeling ill. Also very knowledgeable about hiking around Huaraz

Slightly further from the centre of town, about a 30 minute walk, but this means less busy
