My friend, his dog and I were on a motorcycle tour of Scotland and chose the hotel for its impressive architecture and character. It is set in a wonderful location with the River Tweed and the ruined abbey adjoining the grounds.
We were given a lovely friendly welcome by Tilly, who was efficient, professional and explained that the hotel was very dog friendly.
The rooms were spacious, comfortable and traditionally furnished. The food was well cooked and sourced locally and breakfast was hearty.
A better choice of beers please.

Lovely character and beautiful location

The breakfast was ok but not exceptional
The length of time waiting to order on Sunday was too long. We were told staff shortage which was quite obvious
Also generally in the lounge areas the Muzak was awful!
There is no need to play music it’s not needed especially if the music played is just a constant loop of noise

Staff were very good, and it is a very impressive building with good views across the surrounding area. Excellent breakfast
Why ask customers if their preference is for twin or kingsize beds if you then don't make them up as requested? The evening meal was passable but nothing like those presented on the website - more Brake Brothers. Limited choice of beer/drinks.
