Granny's farm

The accomodation (Lodge family) is well maintained and foreseen from all needs. Wonderfull garden, cosy bar, bbq and open kitchen to share. Several shop nearby. Close to start of nice trail. Central location to visit several area in the nord side of the eiland.

The location was absolutely incredible. Beautiful gardens and a lot of love and effort has gone into creating a lovely place.

We had a lovely welcome from a lady who I think was the owner. There is a bar on site but it was unclear as to when it was open. We saw the gardener a few times while he was watering the plants but other than that we didn’t see any staff at all. There were no instructions what to do if we needed to contact anyone. It was warmer than usual - even for Madeira so a fan or something similar would have been appreciated. Either that or some alternative cooler bedding eg a plain cotton top sheet as the duvet provided was much too heavy to be used in the conditions. All of that said we would definitely come and stay again and I will recommend to others.

Grannys farm was very very beautiful both in location and the little bungalow we rented was also very pretty and the amenities are pretty decent. Its a great area if you enjoy hiking relatively difficult hikes but we would recommend bringing a car to get around if you're planning on staying here.

There were a few things that let the place down, number 1 being that it is extremely remote and all of the shops nearby were cash only, which isn't mentioned anywhere on the site but could really negatively impact on a lot of people who chose to stay here. There is also no air-conditioning or even a fan in the bungalow which is extremely uncomfortable in the hot nights. The shower was only hot for about 3 minutes meaning if you were the second person to shower it was ice cold. We also found that Francisco the owner wasn't the best communicator, we opted to leave 3 nights earlier due to us not being able to rent a car and struggling to get ubers due to the location. We messaged Francisco asking where he would like us to leave the key on our exit and he didn't respond to us until much much later that day meaning we just ended up leaving the key in one of the plant pots. We know this was an issue with another couple staying as they were promised a lift to an ATM to withdraw cash as they weren't able to buy food and he then let them down last minute meaning they were going round knocking on doors asking others to help them out. We tried to visit the bar a couple times whilst we were there to find that it was shut everytime we tried to go with no signs when it would be open. We would also recommend going to the shop one minute down the road as there is far more variety there than the shop a 15 minute hike uphill which is recommended by the owner. Also be prepared to share your house with lizards and house centipedes.
