Lovely little gem in Portovenere

Fantastic view over Portovenere, very easy access from the town centre, friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast with both sweet and savoury options. The room was good sized, with a lovely balcony and it was cleaned every day.

Portovenere is beautiful and will visit again but will probably look for somewhere else to stay.

Relais Santa Caterina has a brilliant location as it has one of the best views over Portovenere. Access to the main square was down steps in the garden and then steps on communal path so quick access to town centre. Room was cleaned daily but had to ask for clean towels after a few days as we were staying for a week.

The services in the B&B were not of a 3 star standard. No shower gel or shampoo in the shower only small individual sachets. Fridge in room but unplugged when we arrived and not even a complimentary bottle of water. No glasses in room to use for drinks. No kettle etc. Breakfast was ok but very basic croissants, bread, cheese, meat and cake. No variety shown over the week. Double room described with balcony but was narrow space facing a brick wall but it did have two chairs in it. B&B offered free shuttle but asked when leaving and said could book us a taxi. We stayed 7 nights but there was no effort made by the owner to have any conversation with us at all and it was the same when we left which was very disappointing. Most guests stayed only one or two nights.

Don't stay if you have a car, or if you mind moldy showers

Great view...upper floor with full view of the port.

Prior to checking in, had messaged about no parking supplied, and asked if there is parking nearby. They answered yes, but would not be specific as to how to park in Protovenere. When checking in, Had no choice when asked where to park...was given only one choice; 5 km away in a paid parking lot, and was told there was a shuttle that comes around to pick up. NOT TRUE. Shuttle service did not start until after we leave. We were at the parking lot for over 30 min., and even the Regular bus did not show up (that goes to La Spezia, but if you went down the hill about 500 m, there is a bus stop for Portovenere...still no bus shows up very often. So it is a 35Euros to go from the Relais to the lot one way, plus the 10 euros per day lot charge. Basically held captive for two days, as driving to anywhere else for sightseeing would have been costly. The second day it rained, so walking down 137 wet dangerous steps was not possible to go and eat dinner. Very rough evening.

Oh, how we wish to spend our lives there!

There are no words for this masterpiece of an apartment! We had the greatest time and one of the most important moments of our lives there with my girlfriend, now my fiancee. The location is perfect to see Portovenere and a great base for a trip to the more touristy Cinque Terre. Personally we think that this little town alone is at least equivalent to those 5, it is so beautiful. The rooms and the whole house is full of elegance, has a soul and is well equipped. Nothing is better than hearing the seagulls in the morning and feeling the breeze entering from the sunlit balcony door. Andrea and Giovanni prepared lovely breakfasts each morning and helped us reserve tables at the nearby restaurant. They are quite literally the best hosts. We will definitely visit again! See you soon!

Magical place

The guy who runs the hotel is very friendly and helpful. This place is so magical the view is unreal and it’s the perfect location. It’s a short walk to the town so you feel a little more privacy while easily able to explore. We drove here and he helped us park- you don’t need a car once you’re here you can reach everywhere by foot. The ferry to cinque terre is easily accessible and only a 30min boat to Riomaggiore. Highly recommend and had the best stay.

Everything was just wonderfull- staff was good and amazing view besides bed it was really uncomfortable and air conditioning worked not well. Location is not suitable for those with car and you shuould use stairs from hotel to town. It is quite exciting but not comfortable. But worth teying once just because of view

The views were spectacular! The breakfasts were nice. The proximity to the town was great but a little inaccessible due to the stairs. The staff was very pleasant. The a/c was on point!

The coffee wasn’t great. There was mold in the shower. The tour company, Do In Italy, that they recommended and partner with canceled our experience without informing us and then it took several weeks for the reimbursement to come.

Wonderful staff and amazing location in the beautiful Portovenere!

Amazing location right near the town centre. A few stairs but really not many compared to most of the towns in other parts of Cinque Terre. We loved the town of Portovenere and especially loved staying at Santa Caterina. The accomodation was very clean and our room had a balcony with an amazing outlook. The breakfast was lovely and the staff went above and beyond, even helping us book a restaurant for dinner. (Their suggestion of La Chiglia was amazing and such a nice walk along the water!)

The best view of Portovenere!

The view from the garden has to be the best in all Portovenere. Having breakfast in that garden with that view was the best part of the whole trip. The breakfast was personally served by the crew, which made everything just special. We felt so valued as guests, and the experience of staying in a hotel with only 5 rooms is amazing.

An amazing terrace over Portovenere

All was perfect, especially the panoramic position over the amazing hamlet of Portovenere. The structure is very clean and welcoming, with convenient prices, if we consider where it is located. A wonderful declining garden where you can have breakfast is really the cherry on the cake. Really recommended place.

Breakfast is really good and overall quality was appreciated. I would have only added some homemade jams (or higher quality ones). In the bathroom I would add shampoo and shower soap, as mainly there were handsoap and intimate soap.

The location is amazing, as well as the house. Nice alternative for a stay in Portovenere!

Unfortunately, despite I kindly shared with the staff the need to have a receipt (I stayed one extra night) and a VAT invoice (I was travelling for business) and was reassured at the time of check out, once left it has been not possible to reach the staff (many emails, whatsapp messages, phone calls, etc) any more. After 2 months I stil not have any receipt or invoice for my payment, which as you can imagine is a big issue! In short, great location and stay but do not expect to have a receipt!

Gorgeous views at a lovely B&B

A BEAUTIFUL B&B at the top of a hill overlooking the Portovenere harbor. The front garden is dreamy and a gorgeous place to read, have tea or breakfast, or look at the view. Big, clean, comfortable rooms that feel very modern and well cared for. Everyone was very friendly and helpful at check-in as well. We only stayed for one night but wish we had been able to stay longer!

Fantastic and quite magical, honestly.

Balcony view was fantastic! The staff was helpful. And the location was just perfect.

We wish there would have been a few more details on how to get to the property once we were off the ferry. It was a long, uphill haul with bags - just weren't anticipating that. All good in the end.
