About this apartment rental

Enjoy a holiday in St. Jean-Cap Ferrat, the idyllic peninsular stretching out into the sparkling blue Mediterranean between Nice and Monaco ... a famous destination since the days of the 'Belle Epoque' in the 1890's. Our courtyard garden apartment is in a provençal building on the yacht harbour, next to the village church and campanile: the favourite scene of quayside artists. Reflecting its position on the harbour (and the owners' passion for sailing!) the sunny apartment has been redecorated in a Mediterranean nautical style, with terracotta floors and blue & white fabrics. You can relax in the shade of the lemon trees in the tranquil courtyard garden, or step outside the front door into the lively bustle of the yacht harbour, and stroll 5 minutes to the village baker to pick up warm croissants for breakfast. Local attractions include four sheltered beach coves within 10 minutes walk, harbour side restaurants, and the former home of the Baroness de Rothschild.

History: Fishing village to charming small resort: Originally a small fishing community, St. Jean - Cap Ferrat has been famous since the 'Belle Epoque' in the 1890's, when King Leopold II of Belgium and Baroness Ephrussi de Rothschild built holiday mansions here. In the century since, famous writers and actors such as Somerset Maugham and David Niven made their homes here, and today the Grand Marnier family and Andrew Lloyd Weber own homes on the peninsular.
Having managed to escape the excesses of the 1960's building craze, the entire peninsular is now under preservation order, with beautiful villas set in lush gardens, some of which can be glimpsed from the coastal path. The village itself curves around the harbour, and has retained its provençal charm: house façades in warm terracotta and ochre shades with wooden shutters.
The main street and sunny village square overlooking the yachts has a bakery, butcher and small supermarket, as well cafés, restaurants, stylish boutiques and real estate agents, selling slices of paradise!

Local activities: sports, sightseeing & nightlife : Sports:
Beaches: 4 small coves, sheltered by cliffs and Mediterranean pines, within 5 minutes walk of the apartment. Water sports: learn sailing and scuba diving, hire a 'pointu' (traditional wooden fishing boat). Walking: enjoy the magnificent views along the coastal path all around the peninsular, passing the mediaeval chapel of St. Hospice and the lighthouse. Sightseeing: Ephrussi de Rothschild mansion: 'Belle Epoque' architecture, themed gardens and salon de the with water views. Villa Kerylos: archaeologist's 1890 recreation of a waterside Greek nobleman's villa. Mediaeval citadelle, harbour and Old Town of Villefranche: former naval garrison of the Kings of Savoy and Sardinia. Nightlife: Quayside piano bars and restaurants. Summer concert series in the chapel of St. Hospice, Rothschild mansion and the Grand Hotel du Cap. Venetian Nights: costume parade, music and fireworks.

Excursions & day trips: Regular bus connections from St. Jean, and the scenic waterside train line from nearby Beaulieu offer many attractive day outings, without the need for a car:

Nice: Stroll along the waterfront Promenade des Anglais, or through the narrow lanes of the mediaeval Old Town, with its art galleries, restaurants and flower market. Visit the famous Chagall and Matisse galleries.

Monaco: Watch the Changing of the Guard, and visit the State Apartments of the Grimaldi Palace. Try your luck at the Monte Carlo casino, or celebrity spotting while enjoying a cocktail at the Art Nouveau Café de Paris. Window shop for luxury fashion items: enter if you dare!

Cannes: Stroll along the Croisette Esplanade, and past the Palais des Congrès, home of the famous Film Festival. Enjoy a delicious lunch in the stepped streets of the mediaeval quarter of Le Suquet. Catch a boat out to the beautiful Lerins Islands.

Hinterland: Explore some of the charming perched and walled villages, such as nearby Eze.

(June 2025, temperature in low 30's C) Very quiet in a very convenient location, with excellent bus service and good restaurants, supermarket, bakery and several beaches all within a few minutes walk. Getting to Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Villefranche and Nice by bus is very cheap and easy - recommend the Ligne d'Azur app to buy e-tickets so you can validate and topup using your phone, which can also be used on Nice trams.  Also highly recommend the under-advertised So'Mets restaurant in nearby Beaulieu, very close to the Beaulieu bus stop for the railway station (ask the young woman serving what the name means!).The apartment has a lovely secluded garden, where the only things one can hear most of the time are birds calling and the church clock (which chimes each hour twice, in case you didn't count the first time!). Apart from the hob and oven (not used much) the other appliances including the clothes washer and Wi-Fi are first-rate. The air conditioning is very quiet (apart from occasional pumping noise) and efficient, the heat pump being remote from the property. We would only suggest that the owner provides drinking glasses of a decent size!

I had a chance to stay in this lovely, well appointed apartment in St Jean Cap Ferrat for a week. The apartment is very clean and quiet with the highlight being its charming patio filled with a nice table and abundant flowers. the patio gets sun all day as it moves from East to West and has a great view of the nearby Church. I highly recommend this location.

This apartment is a dream come true! It is on the harbour, within one to several blocks of delicious restaurants, magnificent yachts and sailboats, a wide range of high end art and clothing stores, a grocery, boulangerie, walking trails next to the sea surrounding Saint Jean, the bus stop for going to Nice to see the Matisse and Chahal and museums nd old town Nice. The private courtyard was a restful place for breakfast and afternoons wine. We had a ball. The concierge, Jean-Pierre, was always available to help with questions. What a wonderful place!

The apartment is in the perfect location right in the middle of St Jean Cap Ferrat with all of the restaurants, shops and harbour. However, it is located in the back of the building with a beautiful garden so is very peaceful and quiet. The apartment is beautifully furnished, very spacious and well-supplied with kitchen equipment and paper products. There are instructions supplied for the use of everything in the apartment. There is more than ample storage space and the bed is very comfortable. The hosts are very responsive as is the apartment manager. The apartment is spotlessly clean. We had a perfect stay in this marvellous property.

This area is so incredible and you are in the perfect spot at this apartment! The hosts were so accommodating and responsive. Wish I could have just one more day to wake up, get a pastry right up the street and walk to the beach! Hope to be back in the future!

A lovely garden flat in a block mere steps from the port. Everything you need is on your doorstep and you can head anywhere around St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on foot. A regular bus service links you directly, or via change of bus or to train, to neighbouring villages and the Riviera beyond. The flat itself is very well equipped and comfortable and the hosts, along with the concierge, are very friendly, helpful and responsive.
