Last time I was booked into the 3rd floor but the Italian man on reception carried my case n bags up he said to ask in the morning if I could be moved to the 1st floor and it was all done for me I hadn't realised I should have when my Husband booked for me this time to mention if it was possible for a 1st floor room It was sad reasons I came back to Whitley Bay But staying at the Royal Hotel and all the Amazing Staff made my Stay so lovely Thank you all for all your Hard Work I have told all Family and Friends about this Amazing Hotel

It was just a lovely experience. The staff were friendly, location is good and breakfast was excellent. There was absolutely no disruption or noise at all due to renovations. Initial room was not quite right for a ten day stay and they kindly relocated me to an alternate bright and cosy room instead. Up another flight of stairs but well worth it.

It was A Brilliant Stay Staff bent over backwards for me at my stay at the Royal Hotel

It was delicious each Day Julie was amazing with everyone and couldn't do enough ,it made my stay Chris who I met so lovely as well and when I arrived I didn't get his name he took my bags up to the room I was a bit out of breath at the 3rd floor he said in the morning ask to be moved to the first floor which they all made possible the next morning.and the lovely girl on reception everyone made my stay at the Royal Beautiful .I had stayed here 42years ago when we were married and had our wedding reception and night time disco and Party

I would return to the hotel as in general my stay was good value for the money charged.

The free parking was available for all three days I stayed. The room was acceptable for the money I paid. The breakfast was included in the price and was perhaps the best of the facilities at the hotel.

The only unusual thing was the heating in the room. Had I required it during the day it was not available, the electric feed to the heating was controlled by the hotel staff and the electric panel heater was only available during the times the staff allowed it. Having said all that this didn't effect me as I was out during the daytimes I was there.

As always - the location - right on the promenade/beach. And also as always - the staff are welcoming and friendly.

I’ve stayed a few times now so it’s not a ‘surprise’ as such, and I’ve been ok with booking again. The ongoing maintenance has been taking place since at least 2023 - and it is a large project. Some of the rooms and areas of the rooms are in real need of an overhaul - particularly the bathroom/shower area. Based on emails received, and the info available at the hotel, this is due to happen at some point. It would be good to know roughly when its all due to be completed.

Location was great breakfast was excellent.

Too many stairs and for recently having a knee replacement I found it very difficult after the third set of stairs then having to continue to climb others [ no other rooms available] Shower tiles were white with mucky grouting needs a good clean. Bed was terrible very uncomfortable with springs sticking in your back mattress sloping at both sides in to the middle. Extremely drafty with wind coming through the skylights. I know the hotel is under refurbishment so hopefully when all rooms are completed and up to standard we can stay again.

Nice stay at The Royal

The location of The Royal is great, right on the seafront. They do an excellent buffet style breakfast so you can eat much as you want. The room was a little tired looking but it was clean and the hotel is currently being renovated. The staff were friendly and helpful. Great value for money.

The staff at the hotel were lovely, I can't fault them. The breakfasts were fantastic, they had a great selection and there was plenty of it. The hotel was in a great position, on the sea front. Although the refurbishment was undergoing whilst i was there, they were not doing noisy works during the weekend.

The beds, the creaking floorboards, and you could hear everything. I didn't want to put anything negative but I have to be honest.

Spoilt a birthday getaway - hotel doesn’t meet basic standard of cleanliness

The location - right next to beach

The bed headboards were filthy, broken and bed springs were broken. Curtains and hooks were falling off. Paint coming off walls and carpet coming up. Half painted rooms (hadn’t bothered to paint round the new radiator) Hairs on bed. Breakfast was cramped and tasted/smelt like smoke? Only was told after we booked that work was being done to the property, on the front door it says ‘we will keep the hotel exceptional’ but it is far from. We asked to swap one room due to the filthy headboard and was told there wasn’t any available rooms. Bathroom tap constantly dripping. The pictures on booking.com are NOT what you are getting. Travel cot was tiny - good for a newborn but no bigger.

The Royal Hotel. Whitley Bay.

The Mint Imperials at reception area. Helpful attitude of staff. Help yourself breakfast with beautiful warm toast. Julie and the staff work hard, to provide a pleasant experience with nothing too much trouble to keep the customer happy. "No Bother" it the catch word and any minor issue dealt with appropriately and quickly. I have stayed on 3 seperate short occasions this summer.

Unable to open the window in room 36, no sink plug when needing a shave but easily resolved by asking housekeeping staff.. The hotel is currently undergoing full refurbishment and some of the room furniture & fittings are a bit dated, however customers are made aware prior to booking. NOT a complaint, just an observation.

A good B&B stop, save for the gulls.

The room (no. 16) was snug, and secluded, and a good night's sleep was enjoyed. The buffet breakfast offered was very good, with scrambled egg on brown toast with some bacon just right, with some nicely grilled tomato adding both colour and good flavour.

Inevitably, as the hotel is just a few yards from the sea-front, the early morning call was from the gulls. Clearly this isn't within the control of the hotel, but worth bearing in mind.

Great location, excellent value for money

This hotel is undergoing major refurbishment and it appears none of the sea facing rooms are currently available, so my view was of another building across the way. Breakfast was good, everyone seems to come down in the last hour so the dining room gets a bit busy but the food didn't run out. Reception staff very friendly, location excellent right on the sea front and ten minutes walk from the town and the Metro station.

Pity breakfast finishes at 09:00, means you don't get much of a lie-in when on holiday. Bathroom very small but has everything you need. A bit of a rabbit warren to find your room but it's well signed. Best value for money in Whitley Bay, I will return.

Lovely staff more than make up for the negative here.

Lovely welcome from the lady on reception. Location was fab, staff were friendly and hard-working.They were very kind and changed my booking to a family room after a family emergency changed my plans. Buffet style breakfast was tasty, hot and plentiful. Shower was strong and warm and towels were lovely and big. WiFi signal was strong.

The Royal is mid refurbishment, our room was in need of some TLC too which is planned as part of renovations. Lots and lots of stairs!
