Friends Weekend Away in Oxford

Lovely, helpful staff. Spacious and clean room. Good value for money. Quiet location near the river. Useful facilities in room.

A toaster would have been useful as well as some cutlery to go with the plates etc provided. Light switches a bit annoying.

We had a delightful stay at Ethos, clean, comfortable, all the room details one needs. Very friendly and helpful staff. The Ethos restaurant next door has cheerful and attentive service, delicious breakfast with the room, and other meals/drinks if you wish. The hotel has a commitment to fewer plastics and sustainable practices. We were so pleased with the extras in our room that we hadn’t expected, yet made good use of such as 2 sets of dishes, and a warm towel rack. We walked to Oxford sites, and appreciated that the hotel was located in a quiet residential neighborhood. We will be back!

Lovely little hotel close to town with friendly staff and a good breakfast.

Clean, quiet, nicely decorated, cute

The modular bathroom in the room wasn’t ideal as we were friends sharing, but it was done well and I can see they were making the most of a small space to provide an en suite.

Value for money in comfortable accommodation.

Bit of a quirky hotel but still very nice. Breakfast was excellent. Staff are very nice. Facilities in rooms very good. Hotel layout is "unusual" making it a bit quirky but that was no drawback.

Only issue is with parking which isn't ideal but we got by with what was available.

We had a good stay - many thanks. We have stayed before so are used to the location. We could have used an extra blanket at night because of the cold... Having said that the breakfast was awesome (as always) and the reception great, friendly and very helpful.

Great location and reasonable price.

Excellent location to both park and ride and the city. Reasonable price for B&B with friendly staff. Our room was a decent size above the cafe with coffee, fridge and enormous TV. Bathroom OK with a static overhead shower, no mixer rail. Heating was fine with an extra plug in radiator if needed - it’s a big bed with sheets and blanket, but despite no duvet we weren’t cold. Good choice of cereals, juice and coffee for breakfast which was included in our booking - we had the full English too which set us up for the day. We were able to leave our suitcase after checkout at the property whilst exploring Oxford for the day. Use the park and ride for £4.50, it’s well worth it to save on parking and congestion charges. Bus on main road is very frequent and only a few stops away from Redbridge car park. Easy 15 minute walk into town.

Nothing to dislike, the price we paid was reflective of the property.

Great place to stay

Clean, comfortable, great breakfasts included in price. Lovely hot shower. Had a good night’s sleep on comfortable mattress. Friendly, helpful staff. Just outside congestion charge area!

Don’t book here if you want to be able to walk down to reception and restaurant in the same building. The hotel is in four sites on the same street, so you do you have to brave the elements to get to your breakfast! The room we were in (104) had a wet room bathroom, so spent some time wading around on wet floor after having a shower!

Homely hotel with great food in perfect location

This is a homely, welcoming hotel, with wonderful friendly and helpful staff, and with a lovely small cafe attached that does very tasty food from breakfast until 11 pm. So helpful when you arrive late and can have good food on the spot. Rooms are furnished comfortably with hot water instantly available in the shower and taps. As everyone says, the location is perfect - a nice quiet neighbourhood with a short pleasant walk to the centre of Oxford.

It was very cold during my stay, and the bed only had a thin bedspread, so I had to ask for extra bedding which the staff kindly provided. But several people on this site already commented on the lack of adequate bedding, and the manager's replies seem to suggest they listen to feedback, so why don't all rooms routinely provide sufficient bedding, why did I have to ask? For the price charged for the rooms, surely you would expect decent bedding. Of the two blankets I was given, one had clearly not been washed for considerable time, but I preferred to be warm so I took it. There is no central heating in the rooms, heat is provided by an AC unit which is effective, but it means you hear it constantly whizzing.

Appalling accommodation

Nothing really except the location in relation to the city centre.

On arrival the apartment was filthy covered in a layer of dust as a result of the renovations taking place in an adjoining apartment owned by the same owners. We had to walk over duest covered stairs, mortar, building ruble and through a temporary plastic sheet which was put up in a paltry attempt to stop the dust getting into the apartment. The apartment was hastily cleaned of the dust at our request. Despite the hasty cleaning job, the entrance to the property was still filthy. The shower ran hot and cold, the beds were uncomfortable and there was no room to put our suitcases down. We were not offered place to park our vehicle and the nearest Park and Ride car parking was a 25 miinute walk from the property. In summary, the property is sub-standard and should not be listed as a licenced accommodation venue.

Great for a weekend with the family

Great location, very good-sized room and great in-room facilities and equipment. Really good breakfast too.

The parking was £29/day which I felt was too high, and we hadn't been warned in advance. I also don't like room 'air freshener' or infusers, as they I think the smell awful and are full of terrible chemicals, and there where several!

Really BAd experience will NEVER come again

Nothing at all

Staff were not communicating clearly, they didn’t give me my room number, just said 59 Ethos Hotle but when I ring whip on back the 59 door NO one saying go for check out on opposite site which was the reception- they keep me busy while there freezing cold with little chill- they keep saying my staff will call u back however they could simply told me to go across to check in. NO car park charge mentioned initially… not good breakfast like a real hotel- I have seen breakfast on hotle that just changed £70 per night it was more than 20 types of foodd 40 types of drinks and 20 types of bakery etc but u had just egg susage hash brown, which does not suits a hotel with this price. really bad

Hotel has a nice cafe with lots of options, is in a quiet location

The staff were very friendly, and the cafe was convenient and adorable. Very nice breakfast and a wide array of drinks and food! It was in a quiet location, for sure. Less expensive than other options. Wifi worked well.

The air handling unit buzzed every few minutes ALL NIGHT and kept us awake. Our room was also up two very narrow flights of stairs with VERY heavy luggage, which was unpleasant. The rooms were okay, but I did not have high expectations going in based on reviews. It was less expensive than other options, but I did not realize that an Uber would have to circumnavigate half the city to drop us off in the centre - if I had been alone or at least without a small child, I would have walked and the location would have been less inconvenient. Next time in Oxford I will definitely spend more to be in the city centre or at least closer to the university - I also learned my lesson to map the Uber route to where I plan to go before booking a hotel in future.

Large spacious apartment close to Westgate Shopping centre.

Ethos was a good choice for our first visit to Oxford, especially the hospitality of Bushra.

The food and ambiance at the restaurant were superb. Bushra was a delight. The location was perfect for walking to the places we wanted to visit.

The layout of our apartment was quite strange. Hard to describe… but it was hard for three adults to share the space. Hallways very narrow, bathroom right next to entrance to the apartment. Not enough places to unpack our belongings.

The Ethos Hotel is a quiet location within walking distance of the city centre

Location - easy to get to from the Park and Ride and easy access to the city centre . The staff were extremely polite and friendly. The cafe/ restaurant was relaxed and welcoming and the breakfasts were excellent. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable.

The advertised hotel room was actually a dirty, damp, noisy outbuilding with no central heating.

The hotel room was nothing like what had been advertised. We were placed in a separate building that was dirty, damp, and lacked central heating, with noise carrying through the walls and ceiling due to nonexistent soundproofing. Although the hotel provided a portable heater, this solution was unacceptable and completely unexpected from a hotel with such high ratings.

It was a excellent location and the staff was very nice and helpful.

Heating not working Shower broken. We were given the keys for another apartment for shower only. Curtains in very bad shape that would not make the bedrooms private from outside. Beds not comfortable and short Kitchen was not clean. There were item in freezer and crumbs inside the microwave.

Overall It is ok

Staffs were all very friendly and helpful. Very delicious breakfast. Bed and room were comfortable. Location is ok, 10-15 minutes of working distance to the city center.

I know there is no elevator so I requested the ground floor room. And was surprised that the room is outside the hotel in a separate door which I felt unsafe at night.
