Staff were friendly and accomodating we asked if we could change our room as the first was lower ground and right next to the exit with no view through the window
They happily changed us. Good value for momey clean tidy and comfortable excellent location. Would stay again
Would have been nice to have a bar there but its under refurbishment other than that nothing

Staff were very friendly, accommodating and welcoming. The hotel is FULL of character and clean. Very central location. Good value for money. We called on the day in advance of checking in to ask for the heating to be put on in the room which they did. (This was based on our experience the previous stay when we arrived and the room was cold.)
The mattresses are hard but that's down to personal preference.

The staff were polite and helpful and the location is good.
The hotel is very tired and I did not feel comfortable or safe.
The hotel was full of men, one man in the early hours was wandering around confused, shoeless and he had dirty feet and clothes. At 5am there were people wandering around opening and closing doors. I asked what the hotel was for and expressed I was a woman alone and felt uncomfortable. I was told many builders stay there. However it was a Friday evening so I believe it might be being used for other purposes. All hotels have a purpose and everyone needs a place to stay. But I would not as a woman alone stay here or with children as it is currently either being used as a hotel for builders or possibly a migrant hotel.
This information was not shared with me. I felt this information should have been communicated so I could make my own decision to stay or not stay as my booking clearly showed myself and child.

Great value for money, excellent location and everything I could have hoped for. 100% better than some of the reviews on here would have you believe. The reception staff were very efficient and helpful, everything was perfectly clean and tidy. I arrived not expecting much but was absolutely delighted with everything and will definitely stay here again with the current standards of The Talbot being of the quality that seems to be the case now.

In a town with few pubs eating places.
Room for 3 people but no space to move around in. Cold rooms sash windows didnt open too many stairs with uneven floors. Couldnt find the hotel due to a market on a saturday so road closed off until 8pm and sat nav cannot redirect you due to a one way street and to locate the carpark due to this. Rooms that were reserved wasnt avaliable. Very noisey if on front due to people coming out of the pubs and clubs. Thankfully only there for 1 night pictures of the hotel and rooms are not what you get more like a hostel crack house than an historic period hotel.

The Location
My room was along the Main street and it was so noisy with people , shouting, laughing, fast moving cars until 1am.
1.0 / 10.0
I like the location because it's close to my family
The hotel was half finished. No restaurant and no bar. The room had one small radiator not sufficient enough to warm the room. It was very cold. No chance to shave because there was no plug. The pillows were very thin and uncomfortable and the mattress hurt my back and shoulder..

Clean
No food available at all - had to go out for dinner and breakfast. This was not stated explicitly by Booking com

Great value. Could do with a makeover. Clean but tatty round the edges. Ie carpets. Would be better if the restaurant was functional and they offered breakfast. Overall, good value.
A little outdated. No breakfast option

This was our second stay here, purely based on the location, which is close to an annual event we attend and the relatively low price.
Last year we were in a ground floor annex room, which was fine, but this time we were in the main building and the room was very much in need of a refurb, or at least a lick of paint!
The bed was clean and comfortable though and the room seemed relatively clean too, apart from a few cobwebs on the walls.
They did have a kettle in the room this time, as they didn't last year, but only 2 sachets of coffee and tea and our friends, in the room next door, only had 1 mug.
There is a small car park and being able to park at the hotel is a bonus though.
The Talbot is a wonderful, historic old building and it could be a really lovely hotel again, I'm sure, if it only had a bit of tlc, and some time and money spent on it.
The whole place felt deserted and neglected, only ever 1 staff member in the building at a time, as far as I could tell, and they seemed inexperienced and disinterested.
The bar and restaurant are permanently closed, it seems, as the same sign saying that the restaurant was temporarily closed, was on the door as last year.
The toilets in the communal areas, near reception, are closed (out of order?), there was just the disabled toilet available, which was absolutely filthy when we arrived.
Our room had a hanging area / rail for clothes, but no coat hangers?

The member of staff on reception was lovely, welcoming, and very efficient. The bed linen looked clean but I decided not to stay.
Years ago, this was the posh place in Stourbridge. Now almost everything could have been better - they need to manage guest expectations and update the listing.
The "free parking" which you can't pre-book was already full when I arrived, meaning I had to find a space and park on the street.
Listed facilities include bar and restaurant. The bar and restaurant are both closed, I assume due to the work that is happening at this hotel. I would not have chosen this hotel if I had realised there was no bar or car parking.
My room was on a corridor accessible from the court yard. Although there was a card reader to control access to the corridor, it was obvious that the door had been kicked in because the door could be pushed open without requiring a key card, and there was splintered wood on the inside of the door where the lock mechanism should have been. My door locked OK though.
The only way to enter the hotel after midnight would have been to walk round the back of some shops and through a dark carpark and courtyard, which did not feel very safe. The room itself was clean but very dated and in need of refreshing.
The hotel is advertised as "beautiful original features and period charm". Unfortunately the hotel seems to be undergoing refurbishment, because there were no publicly accessible parts of the hotel, only reception and my bedroom. From the outside, the hotel looks shut. The interior is dark, and the place felt like it was closed but they were letting people stay anyway. There was zero charm and no visible period features, it felt more like a shelter.
I checked in at 7:45pm to meet a friend visiting from overseas. I was supposed to have drinks with him and then stay overnight. This hotel was so bad I stayed sober and drove 2 hours home at midnight instead. To be fair, I told reception I'd changed my mind - I should have complained. Token £8 refund from Booking.

The hotel was centrally located on the high street with several restaurants and supermarkets within walking distance. The room was quite large and the beds were comfortable.
Suggest to add some towel hooks or holders in the bathroom.

Great people, location and free parking!
Only a slight preference, but there was no breakfast. However due to the location there were plenty of local cafes even on the Sunday when I had a great breakfast at Columbo cafe.

Clean room, shower, and bed which was comfortable.
Pidgeons on the window sills outside the room, at times noisy.

Very friendly staff, really seem to care about your experience and time. Good location and decent price.
Rooms are small but part of a historical building. Need more cleaning - windows, bathroom (nothing really bad but just some attention to detail).

The property has the potential to be really nice as it has some lovely features.
The room was small. There was marks all over the wall so could do with a paint job. It advertises free toiletries - this consisted of a tiny tube of shampoo and conditioner and a small bar of soap. The cleaning left a lot to be desired our room was full of dust and generally very dirty.
4.0 / 10.0
Check in was efficient, room was clean.
I would have expected mattress & pillow protectors as a basic. Small coffee/tea tray with no cups. The toilet roll holder was on the wall behind the loo making it impossible to reach, no hanging hooks or towel rail in the bathroom. The hotel offered no breakfast or bar/restaurant facilities. The small carpark was full on arrival but I was informed that I could park on the road free from 6pm Saturday until 9am Monday. I managed to find a spot ten minutes walk away

Nothing
Parking was an issue, no spaces so I had to park on the street.
The shower flooded due to the plug hole being blocked, absolutely disgusting.
Windows didn't shut, so there was constant noise and the pigeons, lots of pigeons which kept us awake and the guttering was overflowing due to the rain, which was noisy.
Complimentary toiletries, lol, tiny bottle of two in one shampoo and conditioner, no shower gel just a tiny soap.
The only upside was we only stayed the one night.
