Beautiful place in which to relax

Located in one of the former outbuildings of a farm, the property is in a wonderful peaceful location. Plenty of parking directly outside the front door. The two-storey property takes advantage of the views across the well-maintained farmland onto the hills in the distance, by having the living accommodation upstairs, and the bedroom and bathroom downstairs. The laundry/utility room is a great benefit, especially when the weather is a bit inclement, as it was for us. It’s a great place to dry out your clothing. Lovely large spacious bedroom. The host was friendly and helpful. We had a small query with changing the water jets in the shower, but after a quick phone call, I was sent a video showing how to do this. I notice in a previous review that a hairdryer wasn’t provided. This has now been resolved and there is one available. Again there is good space in the kitchen, for any food preparation, and in the living area to relax in.

Not really a dislike as such, however, just be aware that if you forget to bring any provisions, you can’t just pop down the road to get them; it is a bit of a drive.

Great place to stay, close to the Lakes

We really enjoyed our stay here. Fabulous location, so peaceful. Village pub for a drink & you can eat at the restaurant/bar that is within Calthwaite Hall grounds, very friendly welcome & suburb food in a beautiful settling. It’s easy to get around from here, Ullswater/Pooley Bridge/Keswick under 30 mins drive away. The apartment has everything you need and more. Spotlessly clean. Good WiFi. Thank you Liz for the treats, these were appreciated.

The bed while huge & comfortable with spotless, fresh linen squeaked every time we turned over.

Wish we could have stayed longer x

Firstly, Liz was super helpful and friendly. The setting is beautiful, surrounded by well maintained gardens and farmland, with views over to the fells. The property is the classic stone for the area and had been really well looked after. The interior is really smart and country modern, with loads of tech. It is well equipped and just feels luxurious. The biscuits and Prosecco welcome are a very nice touch. I would happily stay here again, and would highly recommend it to others. An 18 minute walk took us to Calthwaite Hall where we had a fantastic meal and great beer. All in all, we had a very comfortable, relaxing and peaceful stay, and will happily stay there again.

A great escape

Accommodation was lovely & spacious, spotlessly clean, and well equipped. We loved sitting out on the balcony & admiring the stunning views. We also liked having a cuppa in the lovely little sun room by the front door. The owners house, together with 2 other properties, are on the grounds. The surrounding areas are exceptionally well maintained. We had a slight issue with the shower, but when we informed Liz, she was immediately on the case and had a plumber out the same morning. The shower issue sorted 👌. It's a lovely getaway from it all (literally, nearest shop 4 miles away) bolthole, so if you love country walks & very quiet, peaceful surroundings, Saddleback Penthouse is a perfect retreat. Although The Globe pub advertised on the website is now closed, there is now a fantastic restaurant/bar on the grounds of Calthwaite Hall (approx 1.5 mile walk from accommodation). The owner and staff are just lovely, and the food is all homemade & absolutely delicious, the Seafood grazing plate is a must 😋. Highly recommend dinning there.

The lack of local facilities isn't great, so make sure you take everything you need food wise, etc, with you. Also, take a hairdryer as one is not provided.

Very comfortable property in a quiet country location.

Lots of free parking and the apartments are in a very quiet, out of the way farmland. The place is extremely comfortable and when we had an issue with the dryer not working it was replaced within 24 hours. (great response time). We should have stayed longer as this place has everything that you need. There is a wonderful tiny pub about 3 minutes drive away that does great food (The Globe Inn is open most evenings). The location suited us as we were doing some ancestry research in and around the area between Penrith and Carlisle.

The description of which apartment we had was very difficult to follow. Numbering or having a name on the apartment would have been better. There is no local convenience store or supermarket within a 20 minute drive so bring everything you need. The apartment is fitted out with lots of glitter and funky fittings, some of which don't work and a few are purely form over function such as the bathroom hand basin that is completely useless but looks great. Other than that we loved the place.

Perfect for a couple who like walking

Extremely well appointed. The whole place is well laid out and decorated but the bedroom, wardrobes and bathroom are amazing! This is very close to the Lakes but also plenty of other, much quieter places. Eden valley has some lovely walks, Hadrian's Wall is not too far, neither is the coast at Silloth not the Pennines! Also, highly recommend a meal at the Globe Inn.

Our sat nav took us to the wrong place. I would recommend using 'what three words'

The place was better than the pictures. I would say it is an upside-down house with the living area at the top, which leads out to a balcony with a lovely view, and it was very peaceful just what we were looking for after a busy day out. It was very clean the kitchen had everything you needed, it was like home from home. Lovely place Liz

Stunning apartment, fabulous location!

The location is fabulous. So quiet and peaceful and yet ideally situated for the lakes, the Eden Valley and the Pennines.The apartment exceeded all expectations and the photos do not do it justice. Absolute luxury, well equipped kitchen and everything you could need. We stayed for six weeks while waiting for a new build to be finished and it really is home from home with bells on! The warmth and hospitality from the host was fantastic. We arrived on 16th December to decorated Christmas trees and festive goodies. I could not recommend this place more highly.

Fabulous place.

This really is a beautiful apartment. Everything looks and feels luxurious with lots of little touches ftom the low level lighting to the TV in the bathroom. The bed is big and soft but still supportive and I've never seen so much storage as in the dressing room. The laundry room was an added bonus although we didn't need it except to dry bath towels after showering. And what a shower! The bathrobes were also a nice touch. The owner obviously listens to feedback as the WiFi has been upgraded and there are smart tvs; both things previously mentioned in reviews. The complimentary luxury cookies and prosecco were a lovely touch too. We hope to return.

Very little. Unfortunately the spa bath was out of order but we were notified in advance and the shower is amazing. Previous reviews complain about using bar stools when dining. I don't mind sitting on bar stools but the ones here are actually too high for the breakfast bar so you are too high above your meal. Although the corner sofa is beautiful and very comfy it's very big for an apartment designed for a couple. I feel if it was a bit smaller there would be room for side tables so you're not putting your wine glass on the floor.

very comfortable, very spacious and quiet. No expense spared in the design especially in the bathroom and dressing room. Lovely to have a bottle of Prosecco and biscuits on arrival. Great bed.

A really enjoyable stay. I would certainly recommend this apartment without any hesitation.

The apartment more than lived up to my expectations. I really enjoyed exploring the property on my arrival, and each new discovery was exciting. The prosecco, apple juice and biscuits were a nice welcoming touch. The bedroom and bathroom were particularly impressive.

I don't really like perching on bar stools to eat. I would have liked a small table and chairs, for which there is plenty of room in the living area.

It was very luxurious and ultra modern. Lovely touches like a welcome bottle of Prosecco and cookies, big fluffy towels, bath robes. Very peaceful in a lovely setting. Attention to detail was excellent. It’s a bit remote but there is a good pub, the Globe Inn, about a mile down the road which serves very good pub grub.

A very weak or negligible WiFi signal and no mobile coverage with O2. Also for us oldies the bar stools were difficult as was the low couch!!!

4 day break in the Lake District

Great accomodation in lovely location ideal for exploring the lakes. We dined in most nights, the kitchen was very well equipped. Lovely large balcony great for star gazing, weather permitting!! Wi-fi worked well.

We booked this for our 30th wedding anniversary so glad we did it made it even more special Sandleback penthouse was amazing spacious with stunning views as you turn into the drive all as we both said was wow look at this it had everything you could possibly need in a home it’s a home from home but we wish this was our home it was spotless comfortable didn’t want to come home we could easily live there liz is an amazing lady lovely to talk to and was there if we needed anything straight away liz also has horses and stables and well looked after if you have never been here well you need to book it. When available. Can’t stop saying this it has really got that WOW FACTOR definitely deserves 5*
