Nice location

Good location, but very disappointing experience with the staff and poor value for money The location is one of the best things about this hotel. It’s close to the MRT and Ximending, so it’s very convenient for tourists. However, our overall experience was extremely disappointing, particularly regarding the staff and the room upgrade. We arrived around 1 PM and were assisted by a girl named Ellie. We were immediately told that since we had a long stay, they had an offer for us to upgrade because the room we booked was supposedly small. They initially didn’t want to tell us the price and said they would show us the room first. We were then offered the upgrade for *** NTD, which they said was already a promotional price, and the upgrade would also allow us to check in early. We declined because we had already budgeted for our accommodation. We booked this hotel for PHP ***, equivalent to around *** NTD, so adding another *** NTD was simply too much for us. We waited in the lobby and were literally trying to sleep on the chairs because we were already exhausted from traveling. Around 2:30 PM, we asked if our booked room was already available and if we could possibly check in early. Since their check-out time is around 12 PM and check-in is at 4 PM, we thought that by 2:30 PM, there was already enough time for the room to possibly be cleaned and prepared, or at least that an early check-in might be possible if the room was already ready. Instead, we were told that early check-in was not possible, and the staff’s attitude became noticeably cold and unfriendly. Then, just around two minutes later, another staff member approached us and offered the room upgrade again — this time for only *** NTD — and suddenly told us that the upgraded room was already ready and we could check in. We declined again at first, but after experiencing the unfriendly attitude and being extremely tired from traveling, we eventually gave in and paid for the upgrade. What was very noticeable was that the staff’s attitude suddenly became much nicer after we agreed to upgrade. The timing of everything made us feel that we were being pressured into upgrading. We obviously cannot say for certain what their intention was, but from our experience, it felt like we were being encouraged to upgrade rather than simply being offered an early check-in option for our original room. We were already exhausted tourists who had just arrived after traveling, and having to sit and wait while being repeatedly offered an upgrade was very frustrating. The fact that the upgrade price also went from ***NTD to *** NTD within roughly an hour made the situation even more questionable for us. As for the room itself, we stayed for 8 nights, and even with the additional *** NTD upgrade, we honestly don’t feel that the price was worth it. Our original booking was already almost *** NTD, plus another *** NTD for the upgrade. That works out to roughly ***NTD per night, yet the room felt extremely plain and basic. There was no refrigerator and no bidet, among other basic amenities we expected for the price. For an 8-night stay, we found the hotel quite expensive for what it actually offers. In our opinion, the room and overall experience did not justify what we paid. We understand that early check-in is not guaranteed and that hotels have their own policies. However, if the room was already available, we would have appreciated being given the option to simply pay an early check-in fee instead of repeatedly being encouraged to upgrade. I’ve also seen other reviews mentioning similar experiences, which I unfortunately did not pay enough attention to before booking. The location is great, but good location does not make up for poor customer service and poor value for money. There are plenty of other hotels around Ximending and the MRT that may offer a better experience for the same or even lower price. Unfortunately, we would not recommend this hotel, especially for a longer stay.
