The location is good
I committed to pay 3€ more per night for the option to pay at the property(cash). I also informed that I arrive at 8-9pm - which is not super late, while in description says that checkin is open till 11:30pm. Unfortunately the hostel tried to charge my card in advance 2 times, before my arrival and before 8pm, unacceptable!! I wanted to pay by cash, and I didn’t want that (fortunately) declined transactions on my card! When I arrived there were nobody at the reception, then 15min after the women told me „I am not in charge of this, but well okay, I will let you in“ - so strange service. She didn’t have change as well to give me.. The room was okay, but sheets were like just a piece of a piece of torn fabric, not normal sewn bed linen, dirty. In the morning I wanted to clarify the situation with the manager - why my card was charged before my arrival and why checkin was closed. His answer: „We always do like this, today we have one person working till 8pm, tomorrow is another schedule etc. I work with booking and we don’t ask to pay more if you pay by cash. I think we are not at the same level of conversation.“ I tried to explain that if you work differently everyday - you should said that at the description and not say that we are open till 23pm. The manager didn’t care at all, they don’t care about the clients, I felt like nobody wants me as a guest there. Worst experience ever not only the service but even communication!

The location was good. It was easy to reach the main areas.
The rooms were not clean. There were socks and towels left under my bed. I had to prepare the bed myself, which I did not like. As someone who travels a lot, this felt like a waste of time and energy. The stairs were very steep, and I almost fell twice. There were no locked drawers for suitcases, only safes, and one of them was not working. I did not feel comfortable using the digital system for my valuables. The room was far from the shower and toilet. Going to the toilet at night disturbed others, and there was often a queue for the showers in the early morning.

Great lounge and general vibe. Amazing location
Hard to find a toilet , the one I did find was cramped. Shower curtain did not feel fresh, light switched off mid shower, nowhere to place the toiletries.

The staff is super helpful and nice, the facilities are quite clean (except for the stains from killing mosquitos on the room ceiling).
However I would not recommend it, because the hostel bar and terrace are very loud and noisy until midnight (way beyond the quiet hours policy of the hostel, 10 pm). There is also another bar with terrace which makes noise until 2-3 am. Brugge is a very quiet and peaceful town (at least mid July), so I was much surprised of the discrepancy between official hostel policy, the peaceful ambience of Brugge and the level of the noise in the hostel.

Location
I stayed at this hostel recently, and unfortunately, my experience was not good
To start with, the room I booked was a mixed dorm, and right from the beginning, things felt off. The window didn’t open properly, making the room stuffy and uncomfortable—especially since there was a constant, lingering smell of sweat that just wouldn’t go away. The bunk beds were another issue; the top bunk was placed so high it actually felt unsafe getting up or down, and the lack of accessibility made things unnecessarily difficult.
Even something as basic as charging your phone was inconvenient—there were plug points, but only accessible to those on the lower bunks. If you're on the top, good luck managing your devices.
The bathroom situation was perhaps the worst part. Each floor had just one bathroom shared by what seemed like 20–30 people. It was constantly dirty, with the wash basin always clogged—often with hair—which made using it extremely unpleasant. The water wouldn’t drain properly, and overall hygiene standards were very low.
One small positive was the hostel’s location. It’s conveniently placed, which made getting around the city easier. But that alone isn't enough to outweigh the downsides.
Even the staircase was problematic. It was a narrow spiral staircase that felt unstable and slightly dangerous, especially with luggage.
Overall, I would not recommend this hostel. It was uncomfortable, unhygienic, and poorly maintained. If you’re considering a stay here, I’d strongly suggest looking for alternatives.

Welcoming, clean place in a good location. Nice staff, good bathrooms.
The living room & bar area is very attractive and there's a handy kitchen.
Overall the place is great, but the first rung of the ladder to the upper bunk is high off the floor & is a bit tricky if you're not springy, & although I'm short still clunked my head on the ceiling when sitting up in the bunk!

Great location in an old charming building with great atmosphere. The staff was helpful. Overall, a really cool place, definitely worth staying in.
Could be cleaner. The carpet on the staircase and hallways on all foors are stained and ripped in spots and should be replaced like yesterday.

The staff were helpful and friendly.
The hostel itself was not clean. I got a bedsheet with a blood stain, and the pillow was yellow instead of white.

The cleaning staff was excellent and location was great.
I wished they have lift to go upstairs and not charge for simple towels which is for me to be in place like this insane I do understand they don’t have lift but towels could be a possibility to show little hospitality.

Toilets were clean.
Rooms are not at all sound proof, doesn’t have any privacy. You can literally hear every sound from the corridor and when you stand at the corridor you can hear the sounds from rooms.
I could hear the cracking sound from the ceiling when someone walks upstairs, which was so annoying at night.
The check in took very long time, almost 1 hour. They didn’t have staff, even though it was the check in time (from 2pm).
During midnight few people were fighting on my floor (probably drunk), woman shouting, beating each other. It was horrible and I could hear everything from my room, was feeling probably they would bang on my door. No body came to help from the hostel staff. It was almost an hour of the drama.

Hostel Lybeer was in a great location, right in the hart of Bruge, the check in was easy and the staff very welcoming 🙏
Just be careful, there are three floors to the building, you could be on the third floor, the stairs are steep and windy.
Make sure you ask a member of Staff in the morning for Breakfast, the breakfast is made to order, so if you go down in the morning there will be No sign of breakfast, However if you do ask it is available all morning, so no rush to get up 👍

Nice having a kitchen.
The stairs are quite steep and I was on the top floor. Not many toilet or showers but I get up early it wasn’t a problem

The lobby is very aesthetic and has various card games, books, piano etc. which makes it a cool place to hang out. The free coffee and tea options are also good and the kitchen has everything needed. Room was comfortable but not very spacious and well structured.
The room didn't had anything except a bed, charging slots, a locker and a small chair. It'd be great if there is at least a hanger, a table and a mirror. The WC has a window that is open to the stairs in corridor. Bed linen seemed very old.

No hot water snd staff just shrugged and said to use another floor shared bathroom. Was not told of no hot water at check in

The hotel's location was ideal, offering easy access to nearby attractions and dining options. The room was spacious, clean, and well-maintained, providing a comfortable atmosphere for relaxation. The bed was comfortable, with clean linens.
The only downside was the presence of a lot of mosquitoes in one of the bunker spaces. Adding a mosquito curtain in the windows could help resolve this issue and make the space more comfortable for guests.

The rooms are completely organized and clean, the personnel are very friendly and professional, one of our friends had an accident and they were very helpful, understanding and professional, they allowed us to stay longer and keep our belongings at the Hostal while we were at the hospital with our friend, highly recommended!

I never stay in hostels but because a one night stay and high hotel rates o booked this hostel!
The staff were incredibly nice especially the volunteer staff but also front desk!
I booked in the new section with four bunks and it was great! Bathrooms are stone and all new!
Highly recommend!
Meg tying your sheets and making your own bed could be easily done by staff and add to the positive experience!
The main rec room needs an update as does the communal kitchen which I didn’t use.

Very lovely hostel in the quaint city of Bruges. The hotel had a kitchen equipped with a microwave, fridge, kitchen utensils and stove. A spacious common room with comfortable furniture and WiFi worked well.
Therebis no elevator in the hostel and the stairs up to the rooms are very very narrow. Hard to get your luggage up or down the stairs. Bathroom need to be checked on and cleaned often, they were not very clean at all.

Friendly staff and clean place
Cramped stairs made it hard to move luggage around. Moreover, in the evening, there was boiling hot water in the sink and the showers and it was impossible to lower the temperature.

Location was great!!! central and easy to navigate to key places. Everything was very clean and the rooms were nice.
Our roommates were very loud and obnoxious, but that’s not the hostel’s fault!

The availability of the spacious common room plus the kitchen plus the outdoor terraces were a big bonus. Kayyam the bartender did an excellent job with the Beer Tasting and Waffle Making. He was very friendly and accommodating. Simon was similarly welcoming and accommodating. The cleanliness of the toilet and the shower on the 1st floor where I stayed was outstanding. This was truly an excellent facility.
I had a single room and it was overall very nice, but some hooks on the wall to hang coats and towels would have been welcome. Also, I had one very negative encounter with the dark curly haired staff person at the front desk. I needed help arranging for a taxi and I was clearly bothering her and whatever she was doing on her cell phone. She gave me confusing directions for catching a taxi and when I pointed out the confusion she just stared at me for daring to question her. Her surly-ness stands in stark contrast to the welcoming and helpful attitude of everyone else on the staff

the bed was really comfortable and everything was clean.
I think there’s just a few bathrooms considering the quantity of bedrooms. It was hard in the morning to find a free shower.

Very nice and friendly staff, it's very cool that there is a bar inside, you can sit, relax in a fun atmosphere and drink delicious beer.
Convenient location !
And the rooms are generally comfortable too.
Separately, I would like to note that you can leave your suitcase before check-in and after check-out - this is a huge plus!)
I will definitely come back to you again) 💜💜

I enjoyed the location, the ambience and the friendliness of the staff.
The rooms would have been nice to be a little bit bigger (especially the ones for 4 people) and also the lights on top of the beds did not work in some.
