We stopped in a pool room and it was fantastic well worth the money so if you can afford to book one! Breakfast was good with lots of choice and very friendly staff.
Yes it is at the top of a hill out of the busy area but accessible by the free provided shuttle bus or you can walk it in around 10 minutes.
If you have no mobility book it !!!
Nothing apart from the nature of the bull frogs outside our room lol

We loved the private pool and how spacious and comfortable the room was. Staff were lovely. Was not too far from Sairee beach where all the bars and nightlife is and was a quiet resort.
Toilet was not private in the room.

We loved the views, the friendliness of the staff and the breakfast was good too.
AC in the room was leaking, but they fixed it.

Loved this hotel - absolutely stunning! We stayed here for a couple of nights when visiting Koh Tao and it was a beautiful resort. We had room with pool access which was amazing. It is up quite a steep hill but hotel offers shuttle service to and from the beach; however, the walk isn’t too bad. Rooms were clean, staff were helpful.

The room was lovey, spacious and modern, and the bed was comfy. It was quiet and felt secure. Breakfast was nice and the transfer to/from the ferry port were useful. Location was good - you wouldn’t want to be any further from Sariee Beach.
The pool was in a shaded spot so didn’t get much use. The lobby/restaurant were very quiet so not much atmosphere. Wouldn’t want to be any further up the hill.

I am shocked by the terrible experience at Tarna Hotel Koh Tao! My luggage was **severely cracked** due to the staff’s reckless handling—a huge damage ripped through the entire shell, making it completely unusable!
Here’s what happened: The hotel is located on a steep hillside, so guests must rely on shuttle transfers and staff to move luggage. However, while loading my suitcase onto the shuttle, the staff **violently threw it** onto the vehicle. When I received it, the shell was shattered, and the wheels were nearly broken off. This is not just about property damage—it’s a total disrespect for guests’ belongings!
What’s worse, the hotel’s response was utterly irresponsible. The front desk dismissed it as "it was broken in the morning "and refused to take any accountability. I checked out at 12 noon, and then they came to pick up the suitcase. How did they find it broken in the morning?
How can a hotel that fails to protect basic luggage claim to offer quality service?
**WARNING to future guests:**
If you’re traveling with valuable or fragile items, avoid Tarna Hotel at all costs! Their luggage handling is nothing short of a “suitcase destroyer.” The view might be decent, but their service and integrity are zero. Learn from my lesson—you might need to budget for a new suitcase after staying here!

loved the location and the room was lovely with a beautiful sea view. We did the diving from the hotel and it was so good, such a good professional dive company.

Beautiful bungalows built into the slopes of a mountain with direct access to the pool from the balcony. Excellent facilities for obtaining a diving certificate, a very helpful team to ensure your stay runs smoothly, and two friendly cats at the reception. Shuttle service available to the pier and small town.
The entrance to the reception is a steep path

The rooms were great, but not child friendly. Small children always want to look to their parent when they are on the see through restroom and bath.
- That the big swimmingpool was for divers only.
- Taxi services were poor quality after 22:00
- eating and drinking at the Pool were poor and strict timely moments only

Overall, the room was nicely appointed and comfortable. We had a nice view of the ocean, though the rooftop obstructed it a bit. From what we observed on Sairee Beach, this was one of the nicer properties close to town. The air conditioning and Wi-Fi worked well in the room, and I was able to take Zoom video calls with no issue.
The location was a 10-minute walk to the beginning of the Sairee beach stretch, lots of nice restaurants close by. There is an infrequent free shuttle to town, and they offer a paid service outside scheduled times (which is cheaper than the local taxis). There was also an inexpensive laundry just across the street from the hotel, which did a pretty decent job.
There is a 5-star PADI dive shop on site, which currently shares facilities with Black Turtle Scuba Shop (which is also top-notch). While we did not use the on-site dive shop as it was a bit more pricy than those in Sairee Beach, it seemed like a good option if you value convenience.
As other reviewers have noted, the location is up hill from town ... this walk was not too bad, but the stairs leading up to our room were quite steep (and a pain to climb up after the uphill climb).
Additionally, the breakfast is adequate by US standards (which are very low), but not "nice" by Asian standards. The in-house restaurant lacks tasty vegetarian options.
The staircase is not well lit up at night, which can be very problematic if it rains.
The "hot" water in the shower was lukewarm at best, though this was bearable since the weather was hot and muggy.
Finally, losing a room key (which would not be a big deal in chain hotels) can incur an expensive THB 500 fine ... we almost lost ours but thankfully someone found it in the dining area and returned it!

We had an amazing time here. The view from the room was absolutely stunning, particularly for sunset. The staff were super friendly and helpful.
Wifi/TV reception was spotty. The drive back to the hotel wasn't easy since the road was very steep. If you aren't driving, please also do expect a little hike up to your room from the reception.

This was a lovely luxurious hotel and felt like royalty
The hills are very very steep and a lot of steps to get to the room and hotel in general so be mindful when booking

The best hotel we've stayed in Koh Tao. It's location brings tranquility, the staff is very friendly and the room is a must ... take that one.

The property is lovely and you get a real feel of nature. It was gorgeous waking up every morning with the view of the sea ,nothing more tranquil.
We love the hotel , they have everything to facilitate your stay. From umbrellas to beach towels.
Where our room was located it to much steep walking to get up and down to the room by foot.
So between the heat and walking but the time you get to your room your legs are tired.
The hotel does offer a golf caddy to bring you up but not convenient if you’re coming home from the town and it’s a little on the late side.

The short stay in this so called "4 star" hotel was the worst experience in my life.
First, the so called honey moon sweet was on the top of the building with no private pool. In the room there are no separating walls between the room and the WC. This basically means that if some one is in the room, he/she can not only hear what is happening in the toilet but also smell it.
The public pool was closed from 6 pm until the 10.30am.
The breakfast- if you arrive to the breakfast 45 min before it closes you will have little to eat. To be honest the breakfast in some no star BB hotels in Europe is much better then in this motel.
There is also a noisy construction next to the hotel which is not stated in the booking.com website.
Last but not least, if you go and complain or try to cancel your stay you will not have any refund from the hotel. So if you are not into a worst experience in 1,5 star hotel you should choose a another hotel in the island. We changed our hotel after one night stay and went to Koh Tao Cabana Resort. Even though it is 3 star hotel the quality of rooms and the level of service is much higher.

Lovely rooms we had the bungalow and it was worth spending the extra. Golf cart buggy up to rooms was great touch - really great service from the men operating the buggy’s. Had WhatsApp for collection from main town which was really good too!
Rooms were very dark even with all lighting on. When we arrived staff were slightly chaotic/not a lot of organisation (understand it was busy but never experienced this since arriving in Thailand). Had to go to pool to wait for over an hour asked for pool towels from pool staff however they never gave us any. Had arranged with hotel for collection from pier never turned up after contacting hotel via telephone twice had to pay for a taxi after waiting an hour and a half. The hotel did reimburse the price of taxi however waiting around did put a dampener on the start of our stay here.

Very friendly staff. The grand room with pool access is great. Very good internal diving. Food offer and pricing ok! Free bottles of water offered daily.
Air conditioning non perfectly working so sometimes the room was a bit humid. Room is a bit dark at night. A bit up on the hill but with a shuttle to Sairee centre. A Spa would be great

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and quiet. Location was good.
The resort was very steep, but they did offer a free electric buggy service if you needed it.

We upgraded to a room with a swim up pool which really made our trip! Our room was huge and was always kept really clean and tidy, with amazing air con! The breakfast had a huge selection and the hotel reception organised an amazing snorkelling trip for us! Would 100% recommend this resort, can’t wait to come back!
Not an issue for us, but the resort is located up a bit of a hill, a little out of the main strip. But we loved being a little bit back from everything.

Very quiet place
Nice rooms
Air con was working well and quiet
Nice view
Check-in was long (as we came from the ferry, we were 5-6 rooms checking in and there was only 1 person who was doing it for everybody at once)

beautiful property and amazing room they always tried to make everything even better and you could see that with them adding more tiles to places even though you bearly see them just to make everything perfect
the only downside to the hotel is that it is on the mountain so there are many stairs but the staff at the hotel will still do anything to make sure you have the easiest stay possible. and at night looking up at the stairs lit up on the mountain is beautiful
