Good location, easy access from main roads and it felt homely.
Yes breakfast was a bit quirky but lovely and a bit different.. Table service was efficient and personal
A bit more space in the bedroom to unpack and hang my clothes properly would have been nice. The drawer space was v limited. But decor n room standard ex.

Amazing
What an amazing little gem to find and glad to have stayed the two nights at such a lovely hotel. Upon arrival I was greeted by a lovely friendly face. Very professional from start to finish. I stayed in the Wryght room and wow was cosy, felt warm and homely. Breakfast was amazing and the service again was impeccable. All members of staff are all so happy and very attentive. Will most certainly stay here again. Very lovely place and welcoming. 5 ***** all the way.

A little gem
The facilities were good although the floors were bare and maybe a rug to step onto getting out of bed would have been nice?
The food was first class and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.
Bare bedroom floor as above. Low ceiling height going up the stairs...didn't see any warning.

Reasonable place to stay in south Wales
Comfortable, reasonable and good location for other eating drinking places.
Couldn't get anything to eat before 6pm. Very few bar snack even, packets of crisps only.

Good for the price.
The breakfast in the morning was amazing , the beds were also very comfortable and the decor of the room was great, didn’t feel like a hotel. Was great value for money.
The smell from the bathroom , must’ve been the pipes or something, the smell stayed all night long no matter what we did to get rid of it was quite disgusting. As our room was close to the car park we could hear people in the night and also the bell tower goes off every hour all night long which was quite annoying.

Worth a visit for diner alone
A nice stay, although the decor was a little tired.
Low ceilings were also an issue, but overall a good experience.

Very disappointing, especially since the food and staff were so nice.
The food was beautiful - faultless.
The staff were welcoming, friendly and did action some of our complaints i.e. moving us to a second room, which we were advised was, "immaculate."
Where to begin? The cleanliness was appallingly bad. Both in the first room, which we rejected due to this and poor maintenance, and the subsequent room offered.
We asked for our second room to be made up the second day. To the cleaner this seemed to mean;
1) Empty only one bin.
2) Don't wipe down any surfaces, leave the dirt on window sills and sugar on two of the surfaces. I washed our cups prior to requesting room make-up.
3) Don't bother even straightening the bed, just lob three clean towels on the bottom of it.
Dust accumulates over time. A couple of days or so and it is light grey. The dust we discovered in plenty on the floor and against the walls was thick and black.
Add to that the amount of black mould around the bath, the shower base and especially the thick mould around the windows. This mould is notorious for causing issues for anyone with respiratory conditions, its a disaster waiting to happen.
Then there's the lack of attention to cleaning light switches, door edges, walls.
It was really disappointing because on arrival the place looked lovely except for the green mould hotel signs.
It was only once in the room putting our things away we noticed signs of of things not being managed to an acceptable standard.
Maintenance
In the first room, leaking rusty radiator across the bathroom floor. - should have been reported by staff. Light in the bathroom didn't work.
Second room No lamp shade, None of the door handles on the cupboards worked. I had to tighten them all myself. Cupboard under the TV drawer fell out when I opened it to put in my clothes. Unable to flush the toilet without shutting the lid first. (I know its recommended but not everyone does it) Back of the toilet cistern coming off.
The mattress was absolutely awful. Lying down both of us felt the large metal bed springs pushing through. I didn't sleep well. Finally managed taking pain-killers and putting all the pillows in a row and lying on top of them.

Disappointed and dusty.
Location. Tea and biscuits were nice.
Dusty, tired decor and furniture, not the room advertised when booking, broken mirrors and doors. Expensive and stayed in better and cleaner budget hotels. Holes in walls filled with toilet roll. No toilet roll holder. Absolutely over priced and would not recommend a visit.

Lovely one night stay , close to bus stop to take us into porthcawl
The staff and most of our rooms were decorated to a high standard
One room a bit dated but I can only assume they are not finished refurbishing.

Nice enough place staff lovely but unlikely to go back.
Breakfast was nice location was okay. Quiet. Check in lady helpful made my son and nephews bedroom into a twin room which was what we booked. Appreciated that.
Cleanliness of the room old sock hanging on tv wire covered in dust only saw it as we were checking out. Cobwebs on the window, I cleaned off and dusty top of bed headboard. Just wiped over not there for long had I stayed longer would have told reception. Also the bathroom had a foul smell like drains when the door was closed for a period of time.

Very poor
When we arrived we were very impressed with the beautiful building, leading us to believe we were going to have a wonderful weekend stay.
Unfortunately when we presented at the reception desk our Friday evening booking had been inadvertently cancelled even though we have confirmation in writing back in November 2024 that 2 nights were booked. We had a party of 12 people all staying to attend a family wedding 20 minutes away.
Thankfully a room was made available for my husband & I & my mother in law & her sister, however these rooms were very poor. We stayed in mydle a little annex separate from the main hotel another lovely looking building, but the room was a) not in keeping with the surroundings & filthy. My mother in law had a room with her sister that was very small but it wasn’t even a proper guest room we were told it was used for staff! No phone, no emergency exit information.
In our room the kettle was black at the bottom & had smelly water in it, water glasses had lipstick stains on.
Please be warned that photos on the website of the rooms are not accurate, the hotel is let down by the poor, tasteless decorative state, not in keeping with the age of the building & the lack of staff, all those we met at the desk said they were managers 🤷‍♀️ all 12 of us staying insisted on a reduction on our final balance. The only good thing was the breakfast was good & the staff did try their best in a bad situation.

Nice place friendly staff nice food, however uncomfortable bed very noisy and a dreadful night sleep
Staff very friendly, breakfast good, nicely decorated rooms.
we had a dreadful night sleep because the bed was very small very bouncy so we rolled together into the middle, felt like a trampoline. It was very noisy it was as it was on the main road, a security light kept coming on all night in the car park lighting up the room, there is church bells donging every half hour, a Bread delivery van at 5 am very noisy and staff shouting across the park car park at 6 am very noisy.

Good location, friendly staff but very dated rooms.
Nice Friendly staff.
I stayed in the Dove Cote room, and it was very dated and dusty with mold of the tile grout around the bath. I stayed for 3 nights and my room was not cleaned during this time.

Disappointing Stay
This is a beautiful building, with a nice outside area. The staff were welcoming, and the breakfasts were great!
The interior is very tired, particularly the corridors and rooms. We were in Room 8, which unfortunately is above the kitchen where the extractor fans can be heard all day. There are some very sensitive security lights directly outside the windows that constantly go off throughout the night. They light up the entire room due to the windows having no black out blinds. This resulted in a very poor night's sleep. The rooms were tired, and I had to use a towel to clean the bathroom and the bedside table (the towel was filthy once used). There were cobwebs in the corners of the bathroom. There is virtually no water pressure for using the bath tap - we had to use the shower head, which also lacks pressure, and took 15 minutes to make a shallow bath.

Wonderful place to stay, relax and enjoy delicious food.
Beautiful building of historical interest, warm and helpful staff, delicious food. We stayed in the lodge that was beautifully furnished, spacious and thoughtfully equipped.
It was very hot, we had the windows open and there was quite a bit of traffic noise. A fan would have helped with the heat. Obviously the heat couldn't be helped!

Did the job, needs updating, standard Did not reflect the price
Friendly staff, beautiful building, room did the job. It was clean, breakfast was delicious
The rooms were in need of some TLC, they were tired, needed cracks filling in the walls, some unfinished bits in the bathroom. Also no way to control the temperature in the room, so you would need to open a window, however it’s on a fairly busy road so it is noisy at night. The cost of the room was a bit too much versus what it had to offer, but did the job - the rooms did not reflect a standard of the cost.

Very convenient and good food
Lovely room and food was delicious for both evening meal and breakfast.
We stayed on an extremely hot night and although there was a fan in the room it was very noisy.

Good location for Royal Porthcawl golf club
The staff were most helpful and friendly.
The food was outstanding!
Given the age of the property, warm summer days lead to a build up of heat; which made it difficult to sleep, even with the windows open.
A fan would have helped.
