Pleasant stay in a good location, perfect for one night

Disappointing

Sheets and towels were clean

The building maintenance was haphazard - there were some improvement like a newer bathroom toilet (that still had the purchase sticker on it), but other aspects peeling paint, no security lock from inside the room, weird stains on the walls, towel rack ripped off the wall, etc.. showed a lack of follow-through to maintain the building. Location was downtown, but there was also a strip club 2 blocks away and I didn't feel 100% safe there, I put my suitcase up against the door and woke up at every noise in the hall.

The state of the room. It was super small and unfinished. The bathroom was terrible. We did not shower as it was moldy. We paid $570 very much overpriced and disappointing.

Great location

Fabulous location Room was bigger than expected

Place was locked when we arrived. I had advised we would be there at 11am and was told we could leave our bags anytime after 8am but no one was there and had to make a few phones calls but it was all rectified pretty quickly and in the end we could leave our bags so wasn't really a big problem

Location, brilliant. Easy walk, close to the Sky Tower. Harbour 10 minute walk. Bed was sooo comfortable.

Noisy music from the pub down stairs. Smell of people smoking outside of the pub, had to close my bedroom window.

It is very run down and definitely needs some renovations and upgrades. With the bar at the ground floor and the main road it can be a bit loud at night.

It is what you pay for

The staff were friendly and it is very central to everything. Bed comfy

The lack of sound proofing you can hear everything outside all night. The room needed to be refreshed, paint flaking, holes in walls and a deep clean. No point supplying coffee and sugar without teaspoons. The photos on line didn't match the room.

Very outdated and does not look like the picture. I have been to a different hotel in Auckland same price and way better. Paint peeling off and makes it look very untidy and dirty. However the cleaning lady is helpful and friendly. Maybe a littlte touch up paint and tidy bathroom sealant will help. Need toilet roll holder.

Great location and affordable

Last minute booking and not wanting to spend a fortune for 2 nights when I knew I would be out and about most of the time. Check in was easy and fast. The room is adequate and has all you need. Comfy bed and nice hot shower. Its a bit dated but at the same time it was great. Handy having a pub down the bottom as prep for the ABs win :) I would stay there again no problem.

Perfect stay just as expected. I have stayed on two occasions.

The location is central to town and is virtually opposite the SkyTower drop off point for the bus from the airport. It is excellent value for money. It is a basic hotel in which everything works. Shower, hot water and aircon all are in good order.

It is basic but that is compensated for with cleanliness a comfortable bed and value for money.

Unsafe

The room doors cannot be locked from the inside which means that anyone with your door code can enter the room at any time. I was horrified to see this. I worked for years with police in sexual assault response -- I can *guarantee* there have been incidents at this hotel. Please *DO NOT STAY HERE*. It's criminal that they are allowed to operate a hotel with zero security for guests -- it actually boggles my mind, truly completely unacceptable. I was polite about it and the manager (older man) rolled his eyes at me. I left and stayed somewhere safe.

The perfect safe and central little hotel for a solo traveller hoping to explore the city.

The hotel is a gorgeous heritage site in the best spot in the CBD if you're looking to explore the city. The room was cozy and had a rustic charm to it. The bed was perfect for the climate. The hotel and area were safe and the staff were pleasant and helpful. A nice happening spot for my solo girl trip!

I've got no complaints. If you've done your research and chosen The Albion, you're in for a pleasant surprise. The only disappointed guests will be those that didn't do their research and expected a 5-star.

You get what you pay for and does the job.

Very outdated but tidy for what it was and they've tried some simple upgrades like aircon and digital locks which were good

Outdated room and bathroom, a single bed with one of the curtains that didn't block out the light that well, drafty old windows, bathroom shower head was very low and shower was small, toilet seat was lose, plug by the bed was hanging out of the wall, check in was weird without clear instructions about where to go so had to stand in the middle of a busy bar with all of my bags once I actually worked out that it was a hotel and not just a bar.

Overall I think the location was ideal for the price and privacy of us having our own space.

The location was handy and the staff were prompt in advising us of various entry methods to get back in after the bar's hours as we were attended a concert later that night and would be back late.

Overall it was pretty good, though the kettle in the kitchen area did seem like it had not been throughly cleaned inside since the last people had stayed.

We lived the location as it left us close to all amenities, just a pity about the stairs as we found them a bit tiring as we're both pensioners ,otherwise the staff and facilities were excellent, great base if your planning on travelling the island , we found the people to be so friendly and welcoming, would love to visit again.

Again just the stairs we're tiring , everything else excellent it was such a pity , we had 🌀cyclone Gabrielle hit while we were there, such destruction 😢so sad to see.

Twin room. Double and single bed. Good location, a good view, and had everything we needed.

More power outlets near the bed would be nice, but other than that not much. Could have more signage on where to check in

Great location, good value for money

Staff were very nice and helpful, including helping us to carry our luggage to our room. Location is great, and beds were comfortable. We also liked the little kitchen in our room.

We had no major problems, but if we had to note something we’d probably say the showers are low so might be uncomfortable for tall people, and the lack of lift could be a bit of a pain but the website is pretty clear upfront that there’s no lift, so as long as you know beforehand it’s fine. In any case, it’s still really good value for money, given where the hotel is located and what you get for that amount.
