Very disappointing stay — not worth the money

Nothing

I stayed at this hotel in Zaandam and it was a very disappointing experience. 1. The hotel is far from Amsterdam city center — about 35 minutes by bus, which costs €8 round trip. Even though parking is free, the location is terrible: it’s far from both Amsterdam and Zaandam centers, so you waste time and money on transport. 2. There are construction works around the hotel, making it hard to reach by car. You have to take a long detour, and to get to the bus stop you must cross a bridge. 3. The hotel is far from any shops or restaurants. 4. No cleaning was done during my 4-day stay, even though we placed the housekeeping sign on the door. 5. The toilet flush didn’t work properly. 6. There was a bad smell coming from the bathroom. 7. The room phone didn’t work. 8. The TV is very old. 9. Overall, the hotel is way too expensive for the quality and service provided. Honestly, this hotel is not worth the price or the distance. I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it to anyone

The staff was extremely unhelpful. Starting from their communication online, very irresponsive, were not cooperative and difficult to deal with.

Comfortable and suitable for the price

My stay at the hotel was great. The staff were very friendly, the services were good, and the bed was comfortable. I recommend it for a comfortable stay.

There was a shortage of towels in the bathroom, and shampoo should also be provided as it was not sufficient.

disappointing

Road work made it incredibly difficult to get to Hotel. Manager agreed with nthis. As roadworks are ogoing for months, it should have been highlighted in the offer. The weekend menu iis poor. My schnitzel was inedible. I mentioned this to both evening manager and morning manager, but was still charged for it.

This hotel, in terms of dealing, has nothing to do with it. In terms of management, I had a problem with the reservation. My friend and I booked it three times by mistake, and we used one room. I sent a message to the general management, and they told me that we did not recognize the reservation. This means that this is not dealing.

Would not book again

They allowed me to check-in 3 hours early, which was much appreciated after a 24 hours journey.

There is nothing around, the staff did not have the answers to my questions about the bus to get to Amsterdam amongst other things. The maids made so much noise in the morning, it would wake me every day. The bed was too soft, and the bathroom is miniature. The location is also not ideal. It was way too expensive for what it was.

Peaceful, calm and relaxing

Everything was amazing. The environment is clean, comfortable, peaceful and beautiful. If you wish to relax and be at peace, it’s a perfect place to stay, even if the hotel is next to a busy road leading towards Amsterdam. You have a restaurant to eat breakfast and dinner, so you absolutely do not have to go out if you do not wish. With public transport you can easily go both directions to Zaandam centre and Amsterdam.

Elevator was almost out of service and stairs were upright that's why it is the reason not to stay in this hotel. Breakfast time is horrible. It is between 7-9 am. It is not family friendly and for leisure. During the breakfast time, coffee machine was being repaired with a repairman. It is really annoying.

Very clean but distance to city was to far away.....

Cleanliness of hotel, restaurant was handy a little pricey but convenient, public transport was close by with a servo across the road. Manager for 2nd and 3 rd nights went above and beyond his job description with fantastic wait staff.

Price on meals and distance to center of town. Manager on first night seemed confused on his role. The pillows were very flat, no airport transfers thus being very expensive via taxi.

the room was ok

we paid 13 euros to get there by taxi from the train station. when we went to leave the front desk said they ordered a taxi.after a while a black van with no markings came and we told him we wanted to go to the train station. He kept asking where we were going after and we said to the cruise ship and he wanted to take us there. we said no the train station he then said that was 24 euros. we said no we wanted a taxi and where was his sign. he pulled out a piece of paper with his picture on it that said taxi. so much time had passed that we couldn’t wait any longer and had him take us to the train station for 24 euros. we feel once we were there the front desk and van driver were working together to double the price of the return. we may be from another country but we do know when we are being cheated. we will never stay or recommend any Bastion hotel to anyone. now put the on your comments page for that hotel.

Nice location with super staff!

Great location to stay close to Amsterdam and other several points of interest (airport, restaurants, supermarkets, stores, tourism attractions). The staff is really nice, by mistake we passed the breakfast hour, and they picked up some bread, juice, cheese and fruits for us to get something to eat. The room is adequate: good size and renovated bathroom. Decent internet. A lot of parking spaces inside the hotel with controlled access.

The floor corridors to get the rooms look like from the 70s' so an upgrade is more than necessary. Also, poor options for TV watching. I had a TV box to entertain my daughter during our staying but unfortunately the TV configuration cannot be changed (only local channels). If you expect international travellers maybe some alternatives would be good for families. However, pros offset the cons in general.

Location was great, close enough to get a train or bus into centre of Zaandaam and then onto amsterdam central. Rooms were spacious enough, liked that there was a fridge available, room was close to the reception which was handy. Great we could play pool. Staff were incredibly helpful, offering blankets when we were outside, also teas or coffees, always smiling and helped with anything you needed
