Basmatic Nubian Guest House

The location was fantastic: very easily accessible from the city, close to an archaeological site, and both lively and peaceful. It was a beautiful Nubian house that had a superb terrace, amazing kitchen - some of the best food we have tasted in Egypt, great rooms (the beds, towels and linen were extremely comfortable), and a great community that made us feel safe and welcome. The hosts were some of the friendliest and most helpful people we’ve met in Egypt. They spoke great English, welcomed us with delicious hibiscus drinks, didn’t bother us when we wanted some privacy on the terrace, invited us to watch the Egypt-Australia game with them, and even helped my friend who felt sick and needed fruit by going to Aswan and getting plenty of it.

There was no air conditioning within the living room, and the hot water went off at one point.

An authentic Nubian riverside home. Clean, tidy, and cozy, with a rooftop terrace offering stunning views of the Nile. All around is silence and a real Nubian village, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Good value for the money.

Mohamed and the staff are really lovely, friendly & helpful. Once we arrived after a long journey from Abu Simbel, the smile of Mohamed directly warmed up our heart and we felt very welcomed. The rooftop terrace offers a beautiful view over the Nile. The room was very spacious. Food options were decent.

The room was very basic. The hotel is a bit far from everything; so you don’t really venture elsewhere for dinner.
