The sheets were wonderful. Bottled water first night.
Only 1 towel, never saw John or other staff, 4 guest rooms to one bathroom (which was the biggest concern), smoker in other room and smell came into mine despite them not smoking inside, bed linens were VERY NICE but bed creaked a lot, I thought it was a B AND B, but more like a rooming house. To be clear, it was excellent value, and I'd stay again perhaps, but it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Smoking outside on patio under my room so couldn't open window to get rid of smoke smell inside either.

I had a late flight to Vancouver airport and it was close by. The bed was really comfortable and it was in a quiet neighborhood. The shower was really nice.

the house was adorable and there are some amenity (used one like shampoo and toothpaste etc) so I needed only my facial form.
the host brought a lot of his friends and they enjoyed party loudly. it was too loud to do something. at that time I worked there. the noise bothered me very much.

- Good located near the airport
- The sleeping room was clean.
- 1.5 hours after the actual check-in, we received a message from the host giving us a new address in a different neighborhood, informing us that this would now be our new room. Luckily, we were still a 10-minute drive away, otherwise we would have been in the completely wrong place. Furthermore, it's very strange and dubious that one is taken to a completely different house. He wrote that the reason was due to renovations in the bathroom of the other house. But surely this wouldn't have been known only an hour after check-in.
- The bathroom wasn't clean. There were personal belongings lying around everywhere, as if someone lived there permanently. There were also silverfish in the shower.
- The kitchen and living room looked as if someone actually lived there. We weren't sure until the very end whether it was usable for us or not. There were boxes everywhere, moldy cups in the sink, and the sofa looked like a converted bed.
- In the morning, when we were leaving two hours before the official checkout time, someone was already standing at our door with fresh bed linens, waiting for us to leave so he could come in. Presumably it was the host, but he didn't really introduce himself.
- Airport-Shuttle: The provider offered an airport shuttle service beforehand. We accepted this offer and agreed on a time with them. Then, the day before, they wrote to say it wouldn't work after all and we should take an Uber.

John was responsive and helpful in his communication. Welcomed us when we arrived and allowed us to check in early as the room was ready. Bed was incredibly comfortable so slept well. Coffee and tea facilities was a nice touch. Conveniently located to airport.
Accumulation of old soaps in the bathroom. However clean enough and nice hot shower. Bedroom clean and comfortable.

Small room 7 x 15. Outdated. Bathtub from 1970. No tv in room. 1 bed 1 uncomfprtable chair. No place to go besode your room. Felt like a bird in a cage. Would not recommend this place unless you jyst need a bed before flying out.

There was someone who kept banging the doors late into the night.

Separate access to room/basement area from the main part of house. Close proximity to airport a plus. The room was clean bed was comfortable enough. Excellent value for money for accommodation for Vancouver
No instructions on how to check in sent in advance which made for a rather elongated check in as had to wait outside the house for some time for them to figure booking details

Only one bathroom, sometimes it's a bit busy to share the other rooms.
Stairs for carrying big luggage to upstair.

John’s house is a very affordable option if you want to stay close to downtown Vancouver. The neighborhood feels cozy and safe, with a nice local atmosphere. The bus stop is only a 5-minute walk away, which makes it easy to get downtown quickly. There’s also a supermarket nearby, which was convenient for picking up essentials.
The bed was very comfortable, and the room matched our expectations. It was clean, simple, and provided everything we needed for a short stay. Overall, it’s a good choice if you’re looking for a budget-friendly place in a great location.
I feel this place is more suitable for an overnight stay. We stayed for 7 nights and unfortunately didn’t have a good night’s sleep. This was mainly because the house is very noisy. We were woken up multiple times during the night when people got up early, used the bathroom, or left. Other guests were also quite noisy, which made it difficult to rest.
Our room was directly connected to the room next door by a locked door, and we could hear the person talking and snoring, which wasn’t ideal. On top of that, you share one bathroom and toilet with three other rooms. It’s manageable, but not very convenient if you’re on a schedule or simply need the toilet.
There also wasn’t really a kitchen to prepare meals, only disposable plates, cutlery, and a microwave. If you want to make a simple breakfast or lunch, there’s not much space to do so.
So I recommend this place if you’re looking for a short overnight stay, but for 7 nights it’s a bit too uncomfortable and lacking in privacy to be enjoyable.

The check-in process was smooth, with a good lock system and clear instructions for entry and Wi-Fi. The room and bed were clean, and I appreciated that there was coffee, tea, and plenty of kitchen items available.
However, the room is located in the basement, which made it quite noisy from upstairs, even during the night. The air circulation is poor, so the basement has a noticeable cat smell and musty air. The mattress was very firm, and I had back pain after just a few hours of sleep. The biggest downside was the bathroom, which was really dirty — I chose not to use it at all.

It's great for it's value, the bed and pillow was really comfortable and the bathroom was also great. John is really kind, he picked me up from the airport and took me there the next day. It was just a 15 minute ride. I would absolutely stay here again.

Free tea and coffee. A shared refrigerator, microwave, kettle, and hair dryer are available, along with cups, forks, spoons, paper plates, and clean drinking water. Tissues, toilet paper, and towels are provided. The bed was clean and comfortable, and the owner was flexible and responsive. Easy bus access to downtown, though it’s a little far from the train station. The little porch by the entrance was my favorite spot. I loved sitting there to work, and the Wi-Fi was smooth and reliable.
I needed to text the owner to use the laundry, but the quick response made it easy. The bathroom could have been a bit cleaner, but overall, it was a good stay.

John's house is nestled in a sweet little suburb south of downtown. I was only there one night but I wished I'd stayed longer. John was very communicative and allowed me to store baggage before check in.
The room is simple but lovely. There are coffee making facilities downstairs which helped me fight jetlag. The suburb is very pleasant to walk around in and if you're lucky, like me, you might hear piano music emitting from some homes whilst on an afternoon walk.
Do yourself a favour and avoid the harrowing streets of downtown and stay at John's place instead.

Needs to walk downstairs, a bit challenging when carry large luggages because of semi basement room

The location is great, close to downtown and just a 5 minute walk to the nearest bus stop. House is easy to find, nice neighborhood, and felt safe. Room was very clean and comfortable.
Shared bathroom didn't have hand soap and was a bit cluttered. Room lamps were all very bright; there was no option for soft lighting. Communication with owner could have been better--we just received one-word answers.

My room was nice and clean. I liked the neighbourhood, it was safe. You can easily travel to downtown Vancouver and Airport from John’s house. Owner of a property appeared to be shy guy but kind person.
There were some stains in a bathroom.

I was able to relax and sleep as long as I wanted to, I loved having the possibility to use the kitchen
Maybe some soap for washing the dishes would be nice, and it was very loud when someone walked above but I guess most canadian houses are like this?

It is close to the airport, so it is about a 50-minute bus ride into town. Buses are very frequent. However, it is a lovely area to walk around and close to a supermarket and restaurants. Good-sized room with natural light and a work desk. Fridge, microwave, kettle, and coffee maker available. Host John is very responsive. Really comfortable bed.

It’s clean, quiet and well connected to downtown by bus (10) or sky train. John is a very hands off host, I only saw him a couple of times in then2 weeks I was there. As someone who likes their privacy this was really pleasant.
There’s only one bathroom between the 4 rooms but I’ve lived in places like this before. Spent a lot of time listening to a lot of other people getting in there before I could!

My wife and I we were visiting just this place just for one night, coming from Victoria late evening, having early flight from Vancouver airport.
We knew we are renting a room with shared kitchen(not a big deal). We did not know we are also sharing the bathroom(not a problem but). we found out we are sharing the basement apartment with another couple, evening time it was quite ok, their bedroom was next to the washroom with no insulation in the walls it’s not very pleasant using the washroom when someone is right behind the wall hearing every move you do. In the morning they went before us for an early shower and quickly left 7:15am. We were ready to go and do our morning shower and routine but unexpectedly the owner of the house came down from upstairs through the squeaky stairs and took bedding of the couple which just left 5 min earlier and start ON THE WASHING machine AT FRICKEN 7:20am!!!! and he left upstairs for 20 minutes. we went to the washroom finding long dark hair in the shower( I was sure when the owner came down that early in the morning just to check after the couple which just left to check if all is ok and also on the bathroom but not to came down to start cleaning their room and taking out the laundry from the washing machine. Just to mention the washer is right in the kitchen area where we were having quick breakfast before leaving. He asked the only question while whole visit and seeing him for the first time ever) when we are leaving (at 8:30am when the check out time was 11am). I never complain about places where I stay but that 7:20am starting laundry and starting to clean someone’s room when other guests are still present that early in the morning are not acceptable. The outside back entrance to the basement it is a mess and looks like never finished construction zone. From the good side, place is safe, the bedding and room were clean. Hope it was a good reason for the early clean up and no one else accept us experience such a thing before.

I will be back for sure! For two days I stayed in the renovated basement downstairs, with a full kitchen, mud room, dining area, and a very comfortable bed and bathroom. I wanted to stay again, so I texted John. They immediately replied (had to move to a new room - zero issue as this was last minute) and the last night I stay in the house, with nice amenities as you walk in, and another comfortable bed and bathroom. No issues with noise or anything. Thank you John, for the hospitality. Nothing beats this price!
