The bed was comfortable. I chose this hotel because it is near to Ueno JR station for our arrival (as we took the Shinkansen from Kanazawa to Ueno), and the Keisei Ueno station for departure - from which we took the express train to the Narita airport. We like Ueno location as it is within easy walking distance to Akihabara, Asakusa and Kappabashi. We walked the Ueno Park twice and only discovered too late on our last day that there was a popular Van Gogh Exhibition at the Ueno Park which we could have visited but the tickets were sold out. We did discover a few supermarkets (one at the JR Ueno station), another on the way to Kappabashi for pots and kitchenware (that supermarket has more Japanese fruits in season eg. oranges, peaches, Kyoto grapes, cherries, etc). There is also a bigger local supermarket nearer to Asakusa. These are all easily walkable within a few kilometres, although you can also take the subway (just a couple of stations away). There is a popular Ueshima Higashima Ueno coffee house next door that opens at 7am.

When there was an earthquake tremor on 16 June 2026 at 7.26pm the night before our departure, we were in out 11th floor room and felt the floor and room shook for a few seconds. There was no communication from the hotel to guests. We were left a little bit uncertain and unsettled, and had ti call the reception for advice on whether to go to the nearest shelter (as advised by the government message that a stronger quake may be expected soon). The room size is a bit smaller than I expected, given the price, and after opening up 2 luggages, there is little room for walking. Bathroom was also a bit small. Would have been nice if the hotel staff had given directions on how to reach the hotel from the Ueno JR station - for that was confusing initially. We did not take the breakfast option as it was overpriced. There were limited restaurants that offer breakfast in the vicinity, except for combini like Lawson, Family mart nearby, and bakery at the UENO station. If there was a famous exhibition like Van Gogh at Ueno Park, I wished the staff could have highlighted it to guests on check-in.

1. Room photo on Booking.com is misleading. I didn’t realize that one side of the bed is against the wall not shown in the photo. Totally a pet peeve of mine. 2. Breakfast was decent. We sat at the window wall facing the street. The adjacent trellis was dirty and the “garden” outside was unkempt and unsightly.
