Ueno Touganeya Hotel

Staff was very attentive, even as we made a few requests: holding bags, adding more bags to the held bags, ordering on amazon (may have come in 3 shipments over the same day), disposing of cardboard from the amazon orders. The rooms were cleaned/dusted, the beds made every day. (Not so at all hotels, we discovered.) My daughter appreciated the careful placement of her stuffed animals on the bed every day.

The air in the room fluctuated from warm to cool, even though the thermostat remained stable. Still not sure if we were imagining it or not, so never mentioned to the hotel staff (maybe I should have).

* So close to Ueno Station, very easy access to the pedestrian bridges to get to the station and Marui without waiting at pedestrian crossings. Barely a block away from takoyaki (has an outdoor take out counter), soba, Lawson, My Basked grocery store, and 7-11. * Was able to ship an Amazon delivery to the hotel, which was nice because at the time, all the Lawson/7-11 lockers were unavailable for my shipment. * Had one washer and dryer outside the building in the back (near the smoking area), cost about 600 yen to wash and dry for 30 minutes. * Accommodating staff,: I had more requests than my normal stay, especially when it came to holding our luggage.

The one thing that would put this hotel over the top is a public onsen; but that is a want, not a need.

The room was very clean and tidy every single day. The staff is very responsive, helpful and kind. The hotel is very well located, close to Ueno station, that gives a visitor the chance to easily move around Tokyo. I’m very happy about my stay, as a matter of fact I’ve booked for 2 more nights here at the end of my trip in Japan. Highly recommended!

The air conditioning points directly to the bed and it’s a little noisy, so most of the nights I had to turn it off to sleep nicely.

Location, location, location.

I hate to say anything relative about this property and stuff. I chose a medium tier hotel on purpose, and the staff were unfailingly, courteous, considerate, and generous. But I would say that they should invest in a paint job and changing carpets. The foyer does have a sub basement feel overall I had a wonderful time, but the rooms could be freshened up a bit.
