Towa Ryokan

Staff was excellent! Very kind and helpful

Not accustomed to sitting on the floor but sleeping on the mats was fine

The service, the breakfast, accommodating my last minute late check in, futon was comfy, room was nice, great location and access to an onsite onsen was wonderful

The morning of checkout they removed my futon while I was having breakfast. I’d requested a later checkout so I could relax before leaving, but ended up checking out regular time since I had no need to lay on. The onsen was also slightly too hot

I know futon are supposed to be a bit hard but mine was hard because I could the floor!

The three staff we dealt with, Kazumi, Akiko and Nao were wonderful. Otherwise not much else was worth paying 515€ a night!!!

No blackout in room which they corrected with gaffer tape but we ourselves had to reconfigure the room to suit three people. No water at all in the rooms provided. Ryokan was in dingy basement and frankly a waste of time and money. Just marketing. Thirsty afterwards I bought a drink in the machine only to be told I could not drink it ‘in public’ but only in my room. Kazumi smiled trough this awkward moment Breakfast was good but last service at 8.30am. Way too early. We discussed the problems and the fact that a similar ryokan was 149,000¥ compared to 252,509¥ for same dates at Towa. The service we got made us decide not to pursue any price reduction but interestingly the ‘owner’ was there when we checked out. Also to check out at 11am (not 10am) meant having to pay extra. Thanks to owner perhaps. We lost a couple of hours trying to sort out the blackout situation of windows post check in. Very typical of Japan. When it comes to demanding money, there is no room for genuine good service. Just « show me the money ». And a tiny fridge for three people.
