Old world charm and hospitality in a delightful, wooded setting, and no stairs for us over 70's.

This was our last hotel of 6 during a 21 day stay in South Africa - it was easily the best, due to character and charm, very large room, two bathrooms (what a luxury), the spa, both restaurants, the wonderful gardens and the generously sized pool.

The internet was not always up to what I expect these days, but this problem applied to every hotel we stayed in, so I guess it is a network problem.

Wonderful, really restful location in such a great area. Superb service, accodation, location and restaurants.

The hotel is perfect if you’d like smaller boutique style accommodation. We had an upgraded which room was wonderful, large and light. Excellent restaurants with attentive service at all times. The front of house staff, and Hayley and her team, in particular, were wonderful; always looking to help. The garden was such a jewel.

Very little. Ideally at this price point it would have been nice to have an outdoor spa, but not essential. Breakfast was always busy as breakfast at the hotel is obviously a focal point of the local community too. Accordingly, it could be very busy, and a little chaotic.

Nice hotel with room for improvements

Pool area was lovely, loved the food in Blanko and the cocktail bar was super. The staff were exceptional.

We were in room 1 and there was a smell of damp in the room at times. A rat also ran right by us as we walked to our room on the way back from breakfast

Great, very comfortable rooms though a bit pricy.

The pool is located relatively close to a large road, due to which you hear cars passing by. Though, still relaxing area and the personnel is great at the pool. You can order anything you want from the pool and the garden is beautiful.

Excellent breakfast albeit space can be at a premium if the weather is inclement.

The pool is down 1 and 1/2 storeys and sun umbrellas are difficult to move.

It was a beautiful setting as we got married at the Alphen on 18 December 1999, so was great to have a full circle moment back to where it all started.

A serene escape where elegance meets authenticity.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like family. The room was stylish and comfortable, with spectacular views over the vineyards. The food, wine, and ambiance were unforgettable.

True meaning of a boutique hotel!

Everything. Big rooms, quiet, cosy and comfortable with 2 separate bathrooms and complimentary wine and a couch/lounge area. Smells nice too including all entrances and hallways. Great restaurant (Blanko) for dinner and for breakfast (La Belle).

Everything, the room was huge compared to the online photos it doesn't give it justice, it was very cozy room was extra comfortable and quiet, the attention to details goes along way as we were met with a warm welcome on arrival, staff are quiet professional and top notch service. Wished we could have stayed more. The resturants on-site had good food options as well which was great!

our spa booking was mixed up and we ended up not being able to experience the spa. our shower drain struggled with letting out water and our feet would be submerged while showering

A good average stay but need to improve a number of things to justify the five star rating and price

The room and the staff was exceptional

The fact that there is zero room service after 9:30 or so. I called numerous times and only after a while I got through to reception and was told sorry the kitchen is closed. A Hotel at such a price point should have later room service. The food at the restaurants were inconsistent and the service at breakfast was slow.

nice, would come again with improvement

room was lovely and lovely pool. we felt like the service was extremely slow .. we left a drink at the bar and the pool as they both took 25 mins to arrive so we had to leave them. two issues we had - pool- we couldn’t get a seat but there were non guests at the pool - we informed reception. reservations - we called the hotel on the day to ask for a drinks reservation at 8pm to be told - no it’s fully booked. even if we are guests? yes fully booked. we turned up anyway and there were 4 tables free… just poor form. breakfast was ok - slow also! great hotel with potential but needs issues sorting to make it better. I think it’s worth pointing out this is my first ever review like this as I think the hotel needs the feedback
