comfortable stay but overpriced for location

Location good. The cleaning of shared bath room and toilet was very good.

Not comfortable bed and pillows. Linens were not enough clean (some visible stains) The room cleanliness was above the average, that’s ok. However, it was small room, not enough sunlight and airy. The shared bathroom lock was not working. Also the sound insulation between the rooms were terribly bad. My sleep was interrupted due to snoring and tv/smart phone sounds many times till 2am.

Great facilities but poor check-in and wifi

The building is in pretty good shape, with modern and new furniture and bathrooms. I have appreciated the overall cleanliness of the room and the facilities. Very close to the Cardiff Castle and the city center.

I didn't like 2 things: 1. the check-in is done online and the system sends you an email - 1 hour before your check-in time - with a code to enter the building and the room. However, being a tourist, I didn't have internet data working in England, on my phone, hence I didn't receive the email with the needed code. I also tried to connect to the city/public wifi, but unsuccessfully. In order to get the code, I had to call the customer support which, again because I am a tourist, came at the cost of an international call. Free technical consultation to the property: you can integrate your CRM with one of the many softwares that send SMSs at a cost of 0,01 cents each, so that an SMS goes out with the code together with the email you already send and solve the problem of tourists not having internet data in the UK. 2. the wifi signal in my room (room n. 3) was EXTREMELY weak and oftentimes not working at all - in order to get a good signal, I had to stand in the hallway. Please fix this internet issue as, again, it's really important to tourists to be able to connect to a working wifi.

Cheap but needs lots of Tlc

Positives :- Very handy for access to the city ( only 10 minutes walk) ; decent sized room, comfy bed, TV and kettle Communal bathroom decent sized, clean and good sized shower Cheapest accommodation in Cardiff

Negatives :- Room 4 ( my room) in dire need of decorating, tired looking walls ; dubious stains on walls; wallpaper peeling off walls, cracks in ceiling, wall heater not secured to wall and no instructions on how to use ( resulted in a very cold night) ; bedroom blind in need of repair and so forth... Austins has a " quiet policy" between 11pm and 8am - unfortunately not adhered to by some occupants from 5am this morning and an odour of weed emanating through the corridor... So unfortunately, one won't be staying at Austins again.

Worst hotel stay of my life

Nothing besides to location

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. For the extremely high price, you get a room that is old, worn-down, dirty, and in awful condition. The furniture was damaged, everything felt neglected, and nothing matched the price they charge. The shared bathroom on the hallway was in an unacceptable state — completely dirty and clearly not cleaned for a long time. My room was up in the attic with only a skylight window that couldn’t be closed properly. Because of that, it was freezing cold, and although there was a heater, it barely worked. I had to sleep wearing my jacket because it was so cold. The price-performance ratio is absolutely terrible. The whole stay was extremely unpleasant, and I would never book this place again. Honestly, I’d rather sleep at the train station than stay here another night.

The blinds were broken in the room and curtains are needed to help darken the room at night. The neighbour was outside at 8.30 playing music at a very high volume in the street which is not a great wake up call!

Poor maintenance, the sink in the bathroom did not drain well, brushing my teeth took 10 minutes as I had to wait for the sink to drain. The heater did not work despite cold nights. The coffee mugs and the spoons were dirty with residue on it.

Austin's Guest House is in a fabulous location - a quiet street that is a short walk to the Cardiff Arcades, shops, the Cardiff Castle, and a very pleasant walk along the Taff river. There is a coffee shop very close by which is part of On The River - a small complex of cafe, pub and accommodations. It was a great spot for a good coffee in the morning.

The process to check in and access the room was easy, though I was never able to use the web site to download a key to my phone, so we had to type in a code to access the building and our room every time we left - including when we went to use the washroom, we had to type in a code to return to our room. We were assigned a room on the top floor of the building where the wifi signal was largely unusable. Sometimes we could use the wifi while sitting on the floor by the door to our room. I contacted the host numerous times about the issue but no action was taken - I was encouraged to reboot my phone and then they apologized a lot, but I'm the one stuck paying data roaming charges. My daughter took to sitting in the stairwell below our room to use the wifi, as the signal got progressively better the closer to the ground floor we got. It was nice to have a shower in our room, but there were no towel rack or hook so we had to hang towels on the shower and closet door.

Cons outweighed the pros, will find elsewhere next time

The location was really good and the staff did come bring a power board and fan to accommodate.

The window was broken in the room, bed was so uncomfortable, mirror light didn’t work, only one working wall plug because the other was broken (they did come and give us a power board so we didn’t have to take it in turns). Toilet seat was broken completely on level 3 and well as wifi not working on this floor too. Hot in the rooms during summer. No hot water and shower wouldn’t work, so had to use the showers downstairs only for someone to pick the lock and walk in on me.

Great value for money

For the price and location it was great! It is pretty basic, self- serve but clean, safe and has everything you need if you juat need to get your head down. I am a Cardiffian and you won't get a better location for the City Centre, stadium, castle etc.

Parking might be tricky, I caught the train though so didn't affect me.

The bathroom was dirty, and the bed far too large for the room, making it difficult to get around and to see the TV, which was obscured by the footer. Provided kettle had a lead that was too short to reach the socket under the surface it was on - could only be used by balancing it on the chair! Radiator / thermostat was broken.

Good enough for a short stay for visiting Cardiff centre.

Awesome location, good value for money. The toilet flush didnt stop after the first flush, but the host fixed it the same day, which was good response. It was quiet.

The only two small issues I had were that the window couldn't fully close lock and when it rained in the night there were a couple of drops that dripped and it worried me (during a storm it might be an issue, but for me it was fine), and the drain in the shower was gurgling from time to time and there was a bit of a bad smell coming from it (I think it can be fixed if the pipes are cleaned soon). The rest was very good.

Dirty, damaged and not worth the money

Location to Cardiff Castle was good.

Firstly, the parking recommended by the company was unavailable on the date of our booking, with no information provided regarding that or pre warning. The accommodation itself is dirty, broken and not at all worth the price that was charged. The toilet flush was broken, the sink cracked, stains on the ceiling, carpets and walls, a spring or something completely embedded in the carpet, one bed was broken and the walls were peeling in places. For a location charging over £200 for ONE NIGHT, this was unacceptable.
