Welgelegen House is gracious and beautiful, as are its staff. The lounge room, library and dining room invite lingering, as does the front porch with its view over the garden. We arrived on a hot, sunny day and the guest courtyard, with its loungers, umbrellas and small pool, was providing respite for a number of guests. The walk from reception to our room on the 2nd floor highlighted the magic of these Victorian houses, with timber staircases and peeks into other beautifully decorated rooms. Our room and its balcony was at the back of the property with a wonderful view of adjoining houses and Table Mtn. The dream view. The room itself was really lovely and very comfortable without being overly spacious, although the large bathroom and porch with outdoor table and chairs gave an overall feeling of generosity. The location near Kloof St is perfect- easy, safe walking to a fab range of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. The staff of course are incredibly kind and fun - and the whole experience happy, easy and fab.

There was nothing not to like. Very quite location, close to restaurants and Table Mountain. The guest house staff welcoming and attentive. The accommodation clean and very comfortable and the breakfast choice and quality, excellent.

Fabulous

Great, safe, location in a quiet suburb next to Kloof street. Big room, clean and comfortable. The staff were second to none. Memory, Prince and all the staff in the kitchen made our stay perfect. Like a home away from home. Could do enough for us and really went above and beyond. Do not hesitate to book yourself here, we will definitely be back!

Truly fabulous and memorable stay.

This is a truly fabulous guesthouse. It's in a wonderful location with plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Our room was really comfortable and had great views of Table Mountain. All the staff were incredibly friendly and a special shout out goes to Memory for her helpful suggestions of places to visit and her kindness throughout our stay. Breakfasts were very good with a lovely buffet and a wide choice of cooked food. If visiting we'd also thoroughly recommend a visit to the township which Memory organised for us.

We loved everything and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Very friendly and helpful hosts and staff. Super quiet yet central location. The furnishings and decor are very tasteful. The breakfast is excellent and prepared with great care. Services such as laundry are fast and of impeccable quality.

Charming, welcoming Guest House with superb team

We were delighted with the warm welcome we received from Prince and all the team at Welgelegen House. We only stayed 2 nights but it felt like home. Everyone was so helpful and we received excellent suggestions re restaurants and activities. We will definitely book again when we are next in Cape Town.

Thank you to the staff

The staff was excellent, friendly and very helpful with advice on restaurants , must see places. I had an accident when doing a hike and called them to get a taxi to pick me up and to get an immediate doctor’s appointment. They, Prince and Memory, took care of everything. I was able to get surgery the following day and with that I was able to continue my vacations.

Would highly recommend

This was a beautiful period property located just off of Kloof Street. We were located on the ground floor just next to the main entrance. The room was spacious, clean and tidy. Even with the wooden floors and position next to the main entrance noise was not an issue. The location was in a cul-de-sac road so no noise issues and no safety issues. The staff were fantastically welcoming and we appreciated the added touches like the decanter of port in the room and afternoon cake.

A delightful gem in the heart of CT; the staff were incredible & so were breakfasts & afternoon teas

Breakfasts were a good start to the day; delicious and wholesome items provided. Perfect location being a short walk into upper Kloof Street with easy vehicle access into and out of CT CBD. Small number of guests accommodated at any given time which made it feel very homely and intimate a space where guests are given friendly efficient service.

On weekends distant noise could be heard from the restaurants along Kloof Street; a trade-off we were willing to accept given the convenient proximity to some amazing fine dining experiences and a bit of CT nightlife. Some guests were not thoughtful when re-entering the complex late at night; being heavy footed on the clunky wooden floors and heavy handed with doors and access gates that were fairly close to our rooms. Choose a room some distance from the rear access gate and you'll be absolutely fine!

Warm, personalized and inviting lodging in Cape Town.

Very attentive and helpful staff. We had a nice conversation with Memory and Prince, the welcome staff and managers of the property, as well as Thomson, the night manager. They were eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for South Africa, Cape Town and Welgelegen House.

Everything was excellent. The towels perhaps could haver been a tad softer. And the name is hard to pronounce!

I want to go back!

The quiet location at the base of Table Mountain and proximity to wonderful restaurants was fantastic. The staff was beyond hospitable - most notably Memory (concierge and day manager) and Sidney (night manager) - but all were so friendly and helpful. The inn is decorated so beautifully, the breakfasts were perfection and all was perfect.

We had a lovely week in the Welgelegen. Our hosts were outstanding and nothing was too much effort.

Te hospitality was outstanding. Prince and Memory were lively hosts and we almost felt part of a family by the time we left. They were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good - perhaps things, especially place settings and the coffee machine, could have done with being reset/serviced more often, but the food was good - in particular the hot food cooked to order.

Absolutely exceptional

From the moment we arrived we were told “welcome home” and every staff member was exceptional and couldn’t do enough to help. We were even upgraded to a larger room for two nights of our stay. The area was quiet and safe and we could easily get by car or uber to other parts of Cape Town. Amazing stay.

Great staff that were always looking to help us enjoy our stay.

The rooms and breakfast were outstanding. Staff was super helpful and always there to make our stay pleasant. Recommendations for local restaurants were top notched as were advise for local touring.

The shared rooms and breakfast room were somewhat cold. It was winter and it was unusually cold during our stay. However, the staff often left the doors open which did not help the situation. Some space heaters could have helped a lot to make it more comfortable.

Welgelegen is welgevond! Highly recommendable

Super friendly staff - made us feel at home and anticipated all our needs. The heritage and atmosphere of the building was beautifully enhanced by the décor. Rooms are spacious and comfortable (the warm water bottle was a comfy surprise on a cold, rainy night!). Breakfast was good. We felt safe and secure. The aromatic candle lit early in the morning made my day. Will surely come again.
