No lift from the ground floor on one side of the building. Because it’s an old palazzo they couldn’t insert a lift without damaging the beautiful interior. But they should say in the details.

It's not going to be a 5 star super fancy stay but overall it was a 5 star experience.

The location was perfect. 30 second walk from the Vaparetto stop and central to literally everything.

For some reason breakfast was not included when I thought it was. But it was only 10 Euros a day and was worth it.

Comfortable and Convenient

Conveniently located just off the stop "Giglio." Follow the narrow path until you reach the campo in two minutes or less. Look to the left for the building featured on their marketing photo. Upon entering, the staff was instantly welcoming and provided the information needed for a pleasant stay at their hotel. The young man who helped us with luggage was helpful, warm, charming, and friendly. The room was clean, comfortable, beautifully remodeled, and romantic. We liked the ever changing mood lighting in the bath! Nice view of one of the tributary canals, too. We liked the details, especially the mosquito wipes to protect our skin from bites, which happens in a city with water coursing throughout and in some places standing still. We appreciate that staff stored our luggage after checking out until we had to make our way to the train station.

The breakfast was not our favorite in our forty-four days of traveling on this trip. Since breakfast was optional for us (extra $10 pp/day), we recommend eating elsewhere, even if it costs more. There are well-rated options nearby.

No lift to the first floor which meant we had to lug our cases up a flight of stairs and when you’re in your seventies that can be difficult. The lift was then available to further floors.

Having a healthy drink accessible At all times in the hotel reception and the water fountain was wonderful. A complementary biscuits box in the room is another amazing gesture . This is the second time I stay in Ala first time in 2011! Never disappointed me.

Great place to stay.

First of all, the location is awesome. The hotel is closer to everything that matters. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There's a room to store luggage if you arrive early or leave late, and there's a waiting room in the hotel that you can use with free cold drinks. The rooms are pretty small, but it's typical for historical buildings, so not unexpected. But nothing was missing in the room. Air conditioning is effective. It gets somewhat loud on high, but the sound isn't annoying. Breakfasts are good. Repetitive, but really cheap. Definitely a recommended location for a stay in Venice.

Goes with the room size: no space to store your baggage. We booked a double deluxe, smaller rooms must be really difficult to unpack in.

Lovely Hotel in Venice!

The hotel is in a great location right next to a wharf, and a short distance to other main attractions within Venice. All of the hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the front desk staff to the breakfast staff to the cleaning staff. Breakfast was enjoyable every morning as well. The room was also extremely clean, with windows that opened!

Whilst the room had a working aircon, it did run quite loud but we were grateful it worked so it wasn’t too much of a bother!

Great location, nice bathroom and excellent shower.

I paid for a luxury room as my wife and I weee celebrating our 52nd wedding anniversary … Room 132 was at best OK; no wardrobe, no drawers for clothes. It was cramped, with negotiating the far side of the bed likely to be a test for anyone suffering any mobility issues. Quite simply, nowhere near the expectations if a ‘luxury’ room. Also, the hotel website insight to the hotel boasts of the in-house bar as being the perfect spot to relax after a hectic day around Venice: well, on our first night, its head barman Rey, was as described, fun and engaging. However, that was the last time we saw it open - Rey was unwell, and now hopefully fully recovered, but there was no cover and hence no service. To add to my annoyance I was met by uninterested blank stares at reception when I asked why there was no cover for such a situation arising. Total indifference apart from one younger employee who at least apologised. So a relaxing drink or two to round off an otherwise great anniversary day was a no-go!!! I previously stayed at the hotel group’s Bologna establishment which was luxurious - hence I thought their Venezia venue would match up - NO.

The pillows were too hard and incredibly uncomfortable. The bathroom door in our room was only partially frosted which wasn’t good, it’s not nice to be able to see into the bathroom when someone is using it!

Unhelpful, Unsympathetic "front of house staff"!

Location, breakfast staff & bar staff..

Unfortunately, due to a bereavement at home in Ireland, we had to cut our stay short😔 & book an earlier flight home to be with family of the bereaved. However, when I informed reception, I found front desk staff there completely without empathy for our situation, Our new schedule had us leaving Hotel Ala @ 9.30am Thursday morning where our original flight had us leaving @ 11.00am on Friday.morning. However, "Maurao" apologies for any mispelling" a rather obstinate & uncompromising character, completely ignored the trauma of our situation & insisted we pay in full for the room on Thursday/ night even though we would be at home in our own beds on Thursday. The cost of booking new flights, then having to pay for a room that we weren't using left us considerably "out of pocket". The same gentleman kept insisting that Booking.com was the only one that could help us regarding have to pay for the room. Our stay in Hotel Ala until then had been very much yo our liiking but if Hotel management can't understand the trauma of loosing a close friend on holiday, then there is something very wrong in their customer relations policy. We were hurt by the disregard for our situation & will not recommend Hotel Ala for a stay in Venice.

Pricy and claustrophobic room.

Location is great. 6 mins to St Mark Square and right turn down a narrow walkway to the seafront for public transports to train station and airport and other islands.

Our room was not accessible by the lift directly. Had to carry heavy luggage up many steps and walk a long pathway to the lift. Pls take note that room is very very small. I couldn’t even open our normal size luggage. Had to put luggage on the bed whenever we wanted something out from the bags. Absolutely no walking space. The maids were very noisy in the morning knocking on doors to change towels and make up rooms . They were chatting loudly outside the rooms every morning say about 9 onwards. Really annoying for someone who likes to sleep in after a late night out! Instructions given by the front desk staff when asked about the transport to the airport varies from every staff members . Really confusing. Finally, a lady at the front desk explained and even helped me with the online booking for airport public transport. WiFi in room was very weak. So I used my own mobile data instead.

Our room 115 was really small and noisy, apart from one free bottle of water each when you arrive you have to pay €1.50 per bottle if you want any more. Never had to pay for water anywhere else
