Comfortable bed. Good food.

No hot water in room. Was given a key by staff for another room but water was cold there also. Was woken up during the middle of the night by sound of chairs and tables being moved downstairs.

Ok for one night

They had a nice restaurant and an elevator

Swinford - a lovely setting.

Great location, right in the middle of town. Excellent staff; friendly & helpful. Our room was lovely, overlooking the main street which was very quiet overnight. We enjoyed Sunday lunch & breakfast the following morning; both of which were really good.

Convenient stay .

It’s convenient location in the town

Rooms need updating, there’s no mat to put in the bath , when you shower or have a bath trying to get out it’s dangerous as the bath becomes very slippery.Also the breakfast wasn’t of great quality.

Convenient hotel with quality staff and good food.

Staff were exceptional in all areas, probably this hotels best asset. Parking around the back was secure and convenient (especially handy for Motorcyclists). Food was reasonably priced and well presented. The bar/food area was always busy, a good sign.

Fair bit of noise from the road (front rooms) but this was really due to the hot weather and the need to leave the windows open.

Quite nice

We were welcomed by a cheerful and very kind member of the hotel staff. She gave us all the information we needed and there was no unnecessary fuss or formalities. The location, in the centre of the town, was excellent and the hotel is not far from Knock West Ireland Airport, which was our destination. The room was OK, and the bedlinen was crispy clean. All in all a very positive experience.

These lines shouldn't be taken as criticism, but only as friendly suggestions for consideration. Firstly, our room had a window opening to a light shaft. In it were ducts extracting the fumes from the kitchen. So the windows could not be opened (otherwise the smell would fill the room. The extraction ventilators were kept running during the night, causing noise. It would be nice if they would have been turned off after the kitchen closed. Secondly, we were staying over to catch our plane next morning. Most flights from Knock depart quite early, so we needed to vacate the room before breakfast service started. I think this is not a unique or rare scenario, since Knock has regular flights to the UK and the Netherlands and who knows where else. Staying in many hotels all over Europe for work, I know service in most of them starts at least one hour earlier, if not earlier (E.g, in Brussels many hotel breakfast areas are up and running around 6). To accommodate our type of outbound traveller, it would be nice if one would be able to get some breakfast. So these are just some points for consideration coming to mind. But it doesn't diminish my appreciation for the kind welcome and the help with finding an adapter for charging my phone.

Hidden Gem in Swinford

Swinford was somewhat of an afterthought for us -- a quick stop so we could visit a friend -- but The Gateway, as well as the Swinford location, ended up being a very pleasant surprise. This is a small hotel but it has an elevator which is a HUGE bonus for travelers tired of lugging bags up and down stairs in smaller Ireland inns. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. The manager was very responsive and helpful in getting us an iron and ironing board to prepare dress clothes for our night out. Even though hotel parking is on the street, we had no trouble getting a spot. Swinford itself is a nice central location for exploring nearby towns. Breakfast was included the next morning and was decent.

This is being picky and is very specific to a certain client -- but I vape and it would be nice to have a space out back of the hotel where one could step out to smoke or vape (vs. standing on the busy street in front). This may not be possible given the location but thought I'd toss the idea out there. Otherwise, there isn't anything we didn't like about The Gateway.

Almost perfect

Beautiful hotel. Very comfortable and super cleanq. Staff were all young but very professional and obliging. We only stayed 1 night but the room was really lovely. We had breakfast next morning and it was very tasty, one of the better breakfasts I've had in recent times.

The TV didn't work and when I asked what the problem was, the receptionist did say it had been reported but they were waiting for the repair person to come. I also felt that it was a tad expensive.

A well found Hotel with a genuine welcome, from staff who go the extra mile.

After a warm welcome at reception, we settled down to an excellent evening meal which we had requested and confirmed , by asking on the booking-dot-com messaging box. The car was parked right outside the Hotel and the chef went the extra mile by coming in early so that we could breakfast before catching an early flight from Knock. The room was large and comfortable, with plug sockets either side of the bed for charging phones, and a desk big enough for emails and facebook posts.. the night before.

Lovely small hotel

My wife and I had a lovely stay. It is a lovely quiet small town with really friendly locals. We were able to park on the street right outside the Hotel - it couldn't have been any handier. We ate in the hotel and the food was lovely and very reasonable. Breakfast was nice too - it would have been 'really nice' only I forgot to ask for the hollandaise sauce on the side - I don't like too much sauce but this was on me. Lovely coffee and a great speedy service.

Hotel was far from the perfect venue,was very dated and dull and dreary. Had booked a double/twin room for 2 people on arrival was told that the room was only for 1 person,had no options only too pay 40 euros before they would let us check in, no phone in the room for visitors looking for us the lady on reception on departure day was quite rude to my cousin who came to say goodbye to us and told her to wait outside as we had not checked out yet. Pair of binoculars would have been needed to watch tv as it was so small

Room comfortable but you couldn't regulate the temperature so we opened a window for cooler air to come in but that let in terrible noise from the road and we were then unable to close the window so didn't get a great nights sleep as road is a main road and extremely noisy. Also signage to and from car park not very good. Lucky my partner had stayed there before so know where to go.

Good but

The staff work hard and are helpful both in the hotel and bar/restaurant. The food was good. There is a hotel car park.

The flat roof outside our room (Room 1) had very loud extractor fans and these were running all night. This meant we couldn't open the windows because of the noise (to let in fresh air - August).

Brilliant two days!

This hotel was great, from friendly accommodating staff to comfy beds! The food was delicious, we were only disappointed we couldn’t eat there the second night due to family commitments after a baptism! Would stay again and recommend to anyone heading that direction.

The shower curtains, they get wet and sticky. This is personal opinion though on shower curtains in general!
