The hotel is located in the heart of the Sassi area, which made it perfect for exploring Matera. The room was quiet and comfortable, and the Italian breakfast was good and typical for the region.
The bathroom was quite small and the ventilation fan was very noisy and dusty. The lighting near the mirror was too dim. The Wi-Fi connection was weak and the nearby parking was quite expensive.

Due to traffic-related problems, we arrived at the apartment address a few hours later than prognosticated, but Milena helped us by phone--and thereafter through whatsapp messages--to withdraw the keys from the box, with a code---of our modest Luna apartment, with a cave-style interior---the likes of which I first saw on Santorini island, albeit with white-painted exteriors, rather than the mouse-gray apperance of Matera's Sassi---and with a balcony that offered the beautiful SASSI VIEWS that were also the best feature of the apartment.
It was my understanding that we could drive a car to the apartment---at the edge of the Old Town---to offload our luggage---and to then park our car at a parking garage. Yet, our navi led us up to the edge of the pedestrian zone, from which we had to walk about 400 m (with google maps) to the entrance of the apartment.....
We then did our self-organized walking tour through the Old Town. And, for the morning breakfast, we were offered two options, Lounge Cafe, or Caffe Centrale, both of which were in close proximity to the apartment.
We had chosen to Lounge Cafe, but we were only able to select a coffee/capuccino, orange juice and a croissant/bread for breakfast (no eggs or other items), with the breakfast cards that were issued, since we included breakfast in our booking reservation.
Since the reception of the apartment building was neither occupied during our arrival, nor for our early morning (9:30 AM) departure, I left several (unanswered) whatsapp messages for Milena, and offered to pay the small amount of money owed (for local guest taxes and one add'l guest), after booking.com had already debited by credit card for the one-night reservation.
I was able to leave my credit card details---after having already offered, through whatsapp message, a transfer of the small supplemental amount with IBAN/BIC---before the indicated noon deadline, but as a genius-level3 client of the booking platform I was rather surprised by the financial desparation of the apartment's host. I have a lot of empathy---and even feel a sense of pity---for the financially stressed people of the "mezzogiorno" part of Italy, yet I could never quite identify with some of their chaos-inflicted misery...
Had I known that the breakfast provided to us at the lounge cafe was SO MINIMALISTIC/INSUFFICIENT, I would not have included the breakfast in my booking.com reservation.
