Great place for a family or for anyone wanting a quiet getaway.

We had a family room(s) which had a lovely pool close by away from the beach. The outdoor shower was glorious!!

The bathroom was quite dark as the lights didn’t fully work.

Very comfortable stay

We stayed in one of the beachfront rooms (A2), and we appreciated - opening our door to the sea - the private jacuzzi, also on the balcony, and therefore with a sea view - the open air shower - the cooking, which was consistently good - the daily housekeeping - the size of the room, which had a day bed - the high sleep quality of the bed - thick mattress and soft pillows - all the services (in house organisation of excursions, transport, massage in the room) - a spotlessly clean pool - a beach where it was possible to swim, or wade (saw others, didn't do it ourselves) - good WiFi

Lack of maintenance. Specifically - a leaky balcony roof which meant that during a day of rain that we had, we could not sit out or use the jacuzzi - lack of a shower curtain in the bathroom which gets wet after the rains or after a shower - broken recliners strewn across the beach - a bit of polish or paint on some of the furniture

Beautiful, tropical place, off the beaten track.

The pool was lovely and clean, the environment was tidy and pretty. Everything was well maintained. The staff were very friendly. The meals were all good. There are some local shops in walking distance and there are ATMs on the island. Most places prefer cash.

It was very difficult to arrange a transfer from the mainland when the flight time changed. Be aware that the standard transfer is limited, last ferry is about 4pm. Breakfast is served from 8-10am , be aware that you can ask for a “lunchbox “ if you are getting picked up for a tour or diving before 8am.

Absolutely beautiful-choose the accommodation up the hill!

Absolutely wonderful, we stayed here as a family of 4 and as it was a last minute booking (day before!) there weren't any bungalows left on the beach. We had read the one we would be getting was across the road and up a hill and so had slight reservations. We had no need to be concerned! Our family bungalow was absolutely perfect and we actually were so glad we had this one instead of any at the 'main area'. We had the whole area to ourselves as it was low season (April 10th-13th) and it was perfect; The pool is just beautiful, the rooms absolutely huge and gorgeous, outdoor shower, good air-conditioning and a adjoining patio area between the two double rooms. We were surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens/greenery and each bungalow has 2 reclining sun beds with comfy cushions, there were also plenty of these around the pool with umbrellas. It was like we had our own private resort!! We ventured down to the restaurant, a mere 60 second walk and you pass a shop on the way for supplies. The restaurant served lovely food and drinks and this is where the main resort is. Peaceful, a pool and lots more bungalows. As we were truly spoilt by our 'private resort' area up the hill, we were glad to return there after dinner, no noise from other people or children 🤣 The pictures do not do this place justice. We also hired a scooter with a side car and ventured about. So the beaches are not as picturesque on this island due to low tide revealing more of a muddy sand, but high tide you can swim in it. We went to Laem Had Beach 5 minute scooter ride away where you need to visit at high tide or just after to capture the 'joining' of the two sides of the sea. We swam in the sea and it was lovely. I would definitely stay here again, and only in the bungalows up the hill! Oh also the towels smelt amazing! And the staff also did some washing for us that also smelt amazing!

Great value for money.

- The resort has a beautiful pool overlooking the ocean. It is on sunrise side of the island and the beaches on this side are not great for swimming. If you want to swim in the sea you would have to drive elsewhere. But this was fine for us. - Staff were very helpful and accommodating. - Good Breakfast with lots of choices. -Restaurant had a large food and drink menu and not too expensive. - Bungalows are rustic but very nice. We were worried about bugs due to the outdoor shower, but it was not a problem. -Very quiet and peaceful location, there was a mini mart and a few restaurants close by. This part of the island is much quieter than loh pared for example and it is a 25 minute drive from the pier, but we enjoyed it and was not a problem because we had our motorbikes. -Overall we were very impressed and I would definitely stay there again.

Little place in heaven

Went to Ko Yao Yai to have a couple of days to just relax during our backpacking tour and we couldn’t have chosen a better resort to do that. Thiwson Beach Resort is a lovely and beautiful place. The staff is extremely nice and they got us a free bungalow update. The included breakfast is also wonderful

Besides the free breakfast the restaurant itself is quite expensive and we didn’t like the food that much but maybe the cook just had a bad day😅

Cozy, comfy, friendly and beautiful place

Wonderful staff, beautiful pool with a killer view, tons of great options at the included breakfast. Not far from the pier. The cutest cottages arranged in like 3 rows. Outdoor private shower was really cool. Comfy tropical feeling bungalow with great AC, fridge, closet, desk-ish space with chair. Good bed, porch for coffee. I had a great time here, and scooting around Ko Yao Yai checking out the beaches and jungle and such.

An unpolished gem full of character

At the time of writing #kohyaoyai only has a handful of resorts and guesthouses to choose from, I researched them carefully, my essentials being air conditioning & swimming pool in the mid range price bracket, my wish list being a characterful locally owned property on a beach. With the Thiwson beach I struck gold. This unpolished gem offered everything on my wish list plus more. Owned by a local family, three generations of whom regularly join the guests for dinner in the open air restaurant which serves very tasty reasonable priced Thai food and great chicken nuggets to the delight of my toddler (albeit they were out of fries for the duration of our stay!). Beside this are the beachfront huts are in prime position with their own outdoor jacuzzi, it’s no wonder they book up so far in advance. There are facilities on site to hire scooters or book tours to explore the island and two lovely pool areas. I was initially disappointed with the hilltop location of our own bungalow which are actually across the road from the others, but the quiet semi private pool area in front of our large veranda and the sunrise view through the frangipani trees buckled my reservations.

The resort isn’t perfect, there are holes in the concrete (my little girl took a nasty fall in one) & bugs in the rooms (to the delight of my 9 year old boy), there is no room service and while there is sand the sea is separated from the resort with a concrete flood barrier & is extremely tidal so not ideal for swimming.

We expect more

The swimming pool made our stay happy. They had a coffee machine and muffins taste good.

Breakfast didn't have many options for being a buffet. The plate where the pineapple was had ants around, three salty options that weren't much tasty. The last day after the cleaning service we found out that our little terrace had a flies nest, we tried to close it, one of the staff came with a spray, didn't work, she said was going to call someone else, didn't appear anymore, I had to go and ask for help, one staff came, put more spray, didn't work, , offered us to change room but it had the same problem with the nest, we kept our room and they gave us a repellent that help a bit. Found two more nest in our terrace. I think a better communication and solving situation would help us to have a better stay.

Is a good place to rest and relax but not good if you want to swim at the sea or stay on the beach.

The surrounding is good, breakfast was good too, wifi speed is fast and the bed is comfortable. The bathroom has an outdoor feature which I like.

The beach the hotel is at is not "accessible" meaning it is not recommended for swimming. There is not much near the hotel and transport to go somewhere will cost quite a bit too.

with the question being "What Went Well" - the very simple answer was - Everything - What a wonderful and peaceful place. Check-in was very easy and quick - the cabin was absolutely wonderful - clean, the ac worked very well, comfortable bed Breakfast had a great choice of Thai food Staff were very friendly and helpful the swimming pool is OK size as the resort is only small, plenty of loungers and umbrellas the on-land beach is quite small - the sea is tidal so only get beach area at low tide I cannot ride motor bike - the staff were really helpful in getting me a mountain bike so was able to get out and tour the island beautiful place to stay

The view from the pool area was beautiful but unfortunately that's all.

The baddest thing was the food. Most of it was not good and I even have upset my stomach on the last day. Furthermore, the surrounding was really noisy.

Relaxing accomodation with fantastic views!

We liked the bungalow type rooms, the restaurants location looking out to sea and the small pool which was raised slightly with fab views from it.

Mattress was a bit too hard but wouldn't put me off staying in the hotel.

Superb

The hotel on the island - we are by car ... and there is a whole story - because the ferry runs 2 times a day and the last one at 14 o'clock ... And here the hospitality of the owner is simply beyond praise, we were late and he helped us get to the island and to the hotel late in the evening - and part of the way I drove personally !!! Our gratitude knows no bounds! Thanks a lot! I would also like to note that almost everything you need is organized in the hotels and on the territory, despite the fact that it is on the island, full respect!

Very comfortable Bungalow in a great area to start trips or just stay there to relax. The breakfast is very nice and the restaurant has a good selection. I would 100% book this place again. Make sure to book a trip of mangrove forest kayaking with Kuhn Coco (local celebrity). Find is number on Google maps.

Bed was not good springs were hitting your body staff doesnt speak english also dont know about tourism. 1) I gave my half full glass beer in it and asked ice in it. she poured my beer down the drain and filled with ice. No compensation ! 2) we were leaving early morning, so we were missing our breakfast option. they offered us sandwich, was nice. when we opened the sandwich container , sandwich was swimming in ketchup snd mayo mix. amazing they poured ketchup over the sandwich. 3) timber decking around the pool. timbers are terrible please. see photo. they are expecting you walk with bare feet 4) Timber Sun lounges were falling a part

Exceptional

A lovely location with happy, friendly staff who couldn't do enough to help. The accommodation and pool are right on the shoreline and the food is great and plentiful. The island is like going back in time with many places to eat, swim, see nature and experience the local lifestyle.

The frogs can be a bit noish at night, but only near a couple of cabins so ask for one nearer the sea and it will be much quieter.

I thought the setting was very traditional Thai, loved the wooden bungalows, we were lucky enough to have the whole hillside part to ourself, we had our own pool. It had amazing views, wifi was great, pool and facilities clean. Staff take pride and care into their grounds. Dinner was good.

Unfortunately the beds are hard as rocks, but I’ve found that in a lot of Thailand. Breakfast could have been better, but considering they were working with such little amount of guests (due to covid I’m assuming) I would say they weren’t wanting to have a lot of waste.
