Resting Place Ko Yao Yai

The views and surrounding scenery were stunning, the owner Yon was friendly and was waiting at the pier with a sign to collect us from the ferry. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious with good water pressure. We were able to rent bicycles which was great for getting to the beaches and 7-Eleven. They weren’t in the best condition, but it was only 100THB for three days, so we were happy to use them. The surrounding area has a lovely vibe - the locals are friendly and kind, and we had great food from nearby restaurants. It truly was a good place for resting.

The room wasn’t particularly airtight - we could see outside through the cladding, and had lots of geckos in our room (harmless, they didn’t bother us), but did have a small Golden Tree Snake come in which we managed to evict… a rather unwelcome visitor! The lack of insulation also meant we had to turn the AC up quite high. The portion sizes of the included breakfast were a little small, and options were somewhat limited if you don’t eat eggs. Check-in was slightly confusing because the booking was set-up as “50% prepayment”, even though no payment had been taken. I don’t know why the listing isn’t simply changed to show “Pay on arrival”.

The owner was amazing! So welcoming, helpful & friendly! The place was beautiful! The views were stunning! The staff were amazing! You can rent a moped for cheap to get around the island, or a push bike is also available. The food was delicious, lovely breakfast! Highly recommended this place!!

Expensive Motel experience - we stayed at many other places on the islands that were much better value. Only convenient if you need a place to stay if arriving by ferry late at night. Views of the bay are obscured by power lines. Property looks out onto a major road, much road noise. Equidistant between to major piers - the ferry's start their engines at about 0530 in the morning and can be clearly heard in the rooms. We arrived early, no one to check us in. We came back later and there was no one still. The front seat is not manned, you have to call the owner who lives offsite. Rooms not services, was asked on last day whether we wanted our room cleaned. Breakfast was very average. Rooms are dated, bed linen old. AC iced up. Diabolical mosquitos, no complimentary repellent. You have to have a scooter to get around, this place is not near anywhere. Closest beach is 15 minute scooter ride, supplies are 10 minute ride. Cannot walk anywhere. We wished we had booked somewhere else and do not understand the score on booking.com after having spent the last month travelling SEA and staying in similarly priced accommodations.
