Peacefully cottage with everything you need.

Lovely cottage in a quiet peaceful area. Bedding and towels included so less baggage in the car. Gavel cottage has everything you need and more. The garden is a lovely place to have a pot of tea and some quiet time. we were able to see the lake from the garden. Lots of wildlife, beautiful birds which we fed everyday. Lovely memories to treasure.

I can't say i disliked anything to be honest. You'd have to be very picky to have a dislike there.

We loved the quieter location of Gavel Cottage, just a little beyond the summer busyness of Bowness. The private garden with summerhouse was ideal for lazing with afternoon drinks. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to use. Everything was clean and well organised.

Lovely place to stay..

The layout downstairs was good for easy living on holiday. It was clean without smelling of cleaning products. Lovely white cotton linen on the beds. Towels were in good condition too. Well stocked kitchen utensils. Nice spacious bathroom. Plenty of extra cleaning products to hand. Large fridge freezer. Lovely location, private but easy to walk to Bowness on a pretty lane. Would go back as easy to drive to all locations you want.

The upstairs is a little small but fine for two, pushed for 4 people which makes it a bit pricey. The shower could do with a new head. The sitting room part is cosy but needs a bit of an uplift to the sofas and rugs.

Choose somewhere else!

Location is good if you need access to windermere marina village, but NOT for access to Bowness town centre

Very disappointing holiday, the listing for the cottage was incorrect. its advertised with wonderful gardens and outdoor areas, which we were then informed by the owners 5 days before arrival, non of these facilities were available due to COVID. I'm sorry but COVID has been going on since march and we booked in June so they basically lied in the listing to get the booking, and then the small print of a general email 5 days before a holiday stating garden and summerhouse is closed is not acceptable. Upon challenging this the owners simply refused to even open the summerhouse and let us have an outdoor table and chairs. Their attitude to customer service is appalling, and they are hiding behind COVID to probably save them money on cleaning costs at the sacrifice of customers enjoying well needs breaks. The cottage is small, the main bedroom doesn't even have a kingsize bed, just a small double, all mattresses need replacing, wallpaper is pealing, bath panels are broken, carpets are stained and covered up with poor quality mats..... In summary I would choose a different cottage! Oh and there seemed to be some kind of wasp infestation, and windows with cracks in them allowed them permanently into the house.
