Friendly host. Clean, attention to detail

No air con! Not the host’s fault, it was one of the hottest nights of the year.

Jane at the Queens very thoughtfully changed the room because of the heat and moved to a room on the ground level .Everyone at the The Queens are always so helpful and thoughtful.

The food in the hotel was second to none - which is why you need to book ! You would be mad not to sample the mackerel and cream cheese pate with sourdough toast and side salad. It's a starter on the menu, but I had it on three days as a main, followed by dessert.

Excellent manager, friendly staff, excellent location and very good private accommodation - like a small bedsit.

Would have had a 5-star but for three things. First, there was no blackout for the room. The skylight didn’t have a blind so the room got light very early (it was midsummer), making sleep difficult. Second, there was a noisy a/c or refrigeration unit outside that went on/off throughout the night. Third, there was no hot water the first morning and only lukewarm water on the second for a shower. All minor issues but together they just took the experience down a notch.
