comfortable, quiet, and welcoming apartment in old Lyon

The apartment is in a lively, bustling area, right on the border of the old town, but thanks to its position within the building it is very quiet and peaceful inside. There are many nice bakeries and good restaurants nearby, and public transport is easily accessible, which made getting around very convenient. The apartment itself was comfortable and welcoming. The bed was very good, the bathroom as well, and everything was spotlessly clean. The kitchen is well equipped and practical. Although the apartment is on the 4th floor without an elevator, the old stone spiral staircase adds a touch of charm and character. The landlady was extremely helpful and went out of her way to accommodate extra wishes, which was greatly appreciated.

The apartment is on the 4th floor with no elevator, and the old stone spiral staircase has uneven steps, which may not be ideal for everyone. The cutlery was a bit unbalanced, with plenty of some items and fewer of others. It would have been helpful to have clearer instructions on how to use the radiators and the air conditioning. Communication before arrival about how to access the building did not work as smoothly as expected, although everything was quickly sorted out with the landlady.

Fantastic property in ideal location

Property is in an excellent location to explore Lyon and beyond. It felt authentic and rustic. Beds are comfortable and property is well equipped. It had everything we needed.

Lack of sockets however that is something we can learn from and bring lead extensions

Great location, very little light and stank of cigarettes.

Great location

The booking.com pictures were misleading, the place was very dark with natural light coming from very narrow courtyard light wells. The place stank of cigarettes from the smokers in the courtyards. We literally could not escape the smell for 5 days and now all of our belongings smell like cigarettes. Very noisy from the neighboring rooms and restaurants below. The AC unit in the bedroom didn't work. Communication was average with details coming the night before only. Guests are expected to take out rubbish and strip the beds on departure.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Rabelais apartment in Vieux Lyon

The location was very good, the apartment was spacious and airy and had everything we needed.

The pillows were very hard and the door of the washing machine becamse stuck so we couldn't use it after day 3 of our stay.

Among the city bustle, a place of calm and tradition

In the very evocative old part of the city, but at the far end where human traffic was minimal. The city's integrated transport system is superb: clean, graffiti-free, punctual and efficient. Abundant restaurants and places of interest. The Maison Debourg is in a very traditional building with unique character. Facilities are very good: the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen area are all well pointed and of impressive dimensions - for a couple at least.

It took time to achieve a response to enquiries about how to leave the keys on departure. Everything else worked like clockwork.

Unpleasant and below expectations.

Washing machine

There is only a narrow spiral staircase to the 4th floor which was not communicated on the booking.com website and carrying heavy suitcases up and down is very unsafe. The entrance and stairwell smelt of stale cigarettes. The shower drain was blocked and a very noisy extract fan could not be switched off. The apartment was not clean and the higher rating on booking.com was very misleading.

We couldn’t get the TV to work despite the instructions. We are tennis fans and would have liked to watch some of the French Open.

Great base for Lyon

Fabulous location in Lyon for walking within Vieux Lyon and to the peninsula/central city, rivers, markets, Croix Rousse, Roman amphitheatre, cathedral, bike hire, museums, art gallery.... Nicely decorated spacious apartment for 2-4 people. Well equipped. Almost next door to a small store supplying fruit, veg, basic goods.

The shower base overflowed partly due to design and mostly due to a blocked drain. This was quickly rectified by the owner calling in a plumber. The 'terrace/balcony/overlooking courtyard' area was unattractive and smelt of others' cigarettes. **Be aware there are 77 steps up a spiral staircase to get to the apartment.

It was very quiet, comfortable and easy access to food transport and sight seeing

We enjoyed staying in a building with such historical significance. Also the location was terrific for exploring. Had everything we needed, including a very comfortable bed.

Nice location - a bit rustic - 80 steps unexpected and problematic

A lovely location but we were confronted by the eighty steps up to the apartment. It was a bit rustic but the square outside was charming.

We would have liked to get the instructions on how to access the apartment on both our phone and email because when we arrived we had received no details and relied on a local girl to help us gain entry. Communication needs to be clarified.

That because smoking is allowed in the building’s courtyard, the whole apartment often smells of smoke because the courtyards get much of a through flow. The smell got a lot better once we opened the shutter between the courtyards on the balcony, which I highly recommend!

Pefectly Located in a Beautiful Historic Building In Lyon

You couldn't beat the location. Despite being almost perfect central in the old town, there was no noise at all in the apartment. The apartment was well equipped, the wifi was blazing fast, and quite comfortable for our 17 day stay. Historic building that was full renovated inside. Would definitely return.

A couple items in the kitchen needed replacing. We had no real issue with it but just be sure you are comfortable walking up four spiral stair flights.

Perfect location & old world charm

The location is ideal- right in the middle of the old town and steps from the Saone, which makes for an easy walk to Pres'quile as well. The building is very cool. My husband and I actually admired it on our first trip to Lyon, and we were pleasantly surprised when we realized that we would be staying in it! It was built in the early 16th century, and the facade is absolutely beautiful. The apartment had everything we needed, and the master bed was very comfortable. The AC was a Godsend in the hot summer on such a high floor. The host was very helpful and responsive; we would happily stay in this building again.

The pictures made the flat look much more spacious than it actually is! It was a little tight for our family of 3. Also, the place is on the 4th floor (5th if you're American), and being a 16th-century structure, the only way up is a steep, stone, spiral staircase. It's a long way to haul a heavy suitcase up and down. It was manageable for us, but it was not made clear in the description, and I can see how that might be a real problem for some people. This would be a great place for 2 people in good health who have packed lightly and appreciate the beauty and quirks of true old-world charm!

Everything was perfect. The apartment was very clean, we had everything we needed (towels, shower gel, shampoo, coffee, sweets) and Madame de Bernardi was very nice and answered to all our questions. The photos are real and describe very well the apartement.

would do a return stay in a heartbeat. Perfect for two people

great location in old town- easy to walk everywhere - and we did. Host was great and responsive - only suggestion would be better instructions on how to use the lock/key - two bolts and which way to turn them and to pull the door towards you when doing so would make it easier to understand.

Right in the middle of it all

all the amenities we needed. washing machine was a great touch. bed was comfy and the hot water was great with awesome pressure.

the towel rail is incredibly hot. the small bathroom meant we burnt ourselves twice quite badly. also being on the 4th floor up a steep spiral staircase with no lift was a challenge. my legs got strong by the end of the week but I had no idea, and this should be better explained as elderly would have issues.

Not super clear on what you're actually getting.

The owners were nice. The place clean and spacious. Good noise cancelling windows on the front (not the ones in the back), you almost don't hear the people in the bar down below but you do hear the staff and other residents laughing in the back alley.

They didn't tell us we would be on the 4th floor without a lift. They advertise all their appartments in one listing, so they own most of the building but they don't tell you which appartment on which floor you are getting. I repeat: there is No elevator. We would have never booked it if we had knew. We were travelling with a 4yo, my knee freshly out of reconstruction surgery and my mother in law who lives in Lyon was unable to come visit because it was too difficult to access. They advertise the appartment as bundled with a car parking deal available when in fact they only have 1 parking card to share with their several appartments.. so when we arrived with our car ...the only available parking space was already taken.. and we had to pay over $40 in car park before they finally gave us the car park card by day 2... because I insited a lot on it. The washing machine was broken. One of the armchairs was broken. The light over the sink was broken. The kitchen sink leaked. We booked the flat for 6 people and only had 4 chairs around the kitchen table... so we could never all sit together at the table.
