The most amazing stay for my mums Christmas present. We stayed in the garden of Eden suite & it was just amazing! The decor, 3 giant beds, a huge tub, dressing table areas, views of the city- it was just perfect!

We stayed at The Shankly Hotel as a group of eight women celebrating a 40th birthday. While the hotel promotes itself as ideal for group celebrations, our experience raised serious concerns.
The room was dated and the bathroom had a strong smell similar to a baby’s nappy. Before checking out, we cleaned the room thoroughly. A few small pieces of confetti remained on the floor, which we had no means to remove, but the room should be cleaned/hoovered before the next guests (so you'd assume)
Within 20 minutes of checkout, £95 was charged to one of our cards without any discussion or consent. When questioned, we were told this was “cosmetic damage”. Apparently cosmetic damage “covers a wide range of things”, yet there is no written list, no pricing structure, and no transparency shared with guests (doesn't damage mean it needs a repair 🤷🏽♀️, not a hoover)
No warning was given at booking, check-in, or during the stay that confetti could lead to charges of £55–£95 per room. Multiple charge attempts were also made.
As someone who works closely with the hospitality industry, I am aware that these types of charges are sometimes classed as staff “inconvenience” payments. This experience gave the strong impression that guests are being exploited through vague damage definitions, allowing staff to significantly boost their wages through post-stay charges.
For a hotel that actively targets hen, stag, and group bookings, this feels misleading and opportunistic. What should have been a celebration ended in frustration. Proceed with extreme caution and get everything in writing. £95 for confetti? Are you run by politicians?

We left after 1 night out of 2 and were refused a refund.
Look from the bed over the wardrobe to see that this is not a 1 bed room apartment but rather a studio!

The beds were Alittle soft but that’s a personal preference, and the place could have done with a dust, but other then that would definitely be staying again and recommending to everyone!

The cleanliness of the rooms, when we arrived to our room there was a fake eyelash on the bathroom floor which after the second night/3rd morning this had still not been cleaned or got rid of after 3 supposed cleans. After the 3rd time that the cleaning had not been done I had to complain to reception and they asked me had i put the dont disturb sign on our door as this is the only reason they would not go into our room but in actiall fact on the 3rd morning the sign was on our door. This was not by ourselves because the cleaning staff had been in and emptied the 1 bin we had in the room but none of the beds were made or tidied in anyway. So the staff had been in to our room and did not do their job. The bathroom which had a shower and toliet did not have a working extract fan which meant the steam from the shower and smell from the toliet being used circulated and lingered around the whole of the bedroom which I think is not only very poor standard it is probably a health risk and would not meet hotel standards. The room was booked for 2 adults and 2 children to which there was only 1 small wardrobe to share, the door handle on this was broken and hanging off, the bathroom door handle is screwed onto a rough cut piece of plywood and that is screwed to the door. The wallpaper in various different places throughout the room is peeling off the wall. The bedside table was unsteady this had to lean on a wall to prevent it falling over. While I don't expect a full refund I would certainly expect a fair substantial refund from the cost of our stay as it really did NOT meet expectations! I hope you can help with this matter as again our stay was very disappointing in what is said to be a 4 star hotel.

The shanks is within walking distance of most things,it’s clean and the room are amazing! The staff are also lovely and are there if you need anything

The room was dated, access to the bath/shower is dangerous and someone will end up falling. The room was not cleaned properly as a used cigarette was on the window. The windows are also very draughty and you can hear all the outside noise

Comfortable beds and great location
Faulty TV, which I complained about, and they said had been fixed while we we out, but it wasn't. When checking out; the manager said she would look into some compensation, but after 3 follow-up emails I've had zero response from them.

Large, comfortable rooms. The shower was also excellent and very powerful. The location was great for us visiting the Empire theatre. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
No coffee or tea was in the room (only milk 🤷🏻♀️). Check in took 20 minutes and I felt the process was unnecessarily long!

The hotel is really well situated and close to pretty much everything you could want. The hotel looked amazing when you walked in. The staff were really lovely and nothing was too much trouble. They made my 40th birthday the best one yet. Room upgrade and chocolates with a card in my room was a lovely touch. The breakfast was great lots of choice and perfectly cooked. We will definitely be back.

Location and quirkiness and room size
Looked a little dirty in places - very noisy neighbours and I called down to reception several times and no one answered . Then they warned guests and noise continued until 4 in the morning. I asked for some sort of compensation and was told it was not the hotels fault …!
