The aparthotel complex in the former fort, later monastery, is truly exceptional. The location on the shore of Loch Ness is perfect, the access is good, and there is ample (free) parking... however, unfortunately, the downsides outweigh the positives.

We stayed at the Highland Club back in 2019 and were absolutely thrilled, giving it a perfect 10. When an apartment became available again this time, we booked immediately, but we were not satisfied with what we received. Our apartment wasn't just worn, which would have been acceptable since furnishings naturally wear out and don't stay new, it was simply filthy and completely neglected. The hotel linens, in particular, hadn't been washed in ages and smelled terrible, but many other areas were also truly awful. We remembered the house as being perfect, and that certainly reinforced the negative impression, but if the management continues to do such a poor job, the Highland Club will soon become a dump... or in the case of Apartment Moat 7, which we received (we booked a different one), you could almost call it a ruin already. It's particularly annoying that the house doesn't need a complete renovation, all it needs is a good tradesman to go through it, fix a few minor things, and have a really good housekeeping team do a thorough cleaning... then everything would be fine again.
