Great staff. Beautifully furnished small hotel, spotlessly clean. Very comfortable bed and covers.

Quiet location.
We intended staying just one night, then stayed two, then three, so speaks for itself.
Bit tricky to find.
No other meals available other than breakfast, means travelling outside.
Tea / coffee / self prep in room would have been good.

This was our second time staying at Casa do Fontao. They have made some updates to the property, adding a pool on the hill, and some new bedding and wallpaper. It still has that old villa charm, and is so well-decorated and clean. The two ladies who work there were so sweet and accommodating. Breakfast was great and they make eggs to your order. The terrace out back is a calm place to relax after a day in Amarante.
As it is not staffed 24 hours a day, we returned from dinner to a dark house. Some lights on timers in the common areas would be nice. But it’s no problem with the cell phone flashlight.

Quiet and comfortable room and great breakfast in elegant dining room. Parking easy and 5 mins drive from town. Amarante is a beautiful town
