Lovely staff and good location

Really friendly and welcoming staff, at The Compasses Inn. Our group of 3 took a spontaneous 2 night New Year break in the new forest and enjoyed our stay. Plenty of walking options nearby, quiet location in Damerham village and delicious Nepalese food options making for an interesting and delicious evening meal. Breakfast was perfect for us, starting with cereal, yoghurt, oranges and apples and followed with 4 or 5 cooked options and lots of tea and coffee.

A little table with 2 chairs in our room would have been lovely, as it had the space to accomodate this, but this is just a minor thing.

Warm, clean, quirky decoration. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Good veggie cooked breakfast and coffee.

The shower in room 5 has to be at full power to get hot..meaning it is prone to leaking over bath on to floor! Continental breakfast very sparse. Surprise extra charge of £10 a night for dog.

Perfect location for Fordingbridge. Good facilities and food.

Had the full English breakfast, well cooked and very tasty.. Extensive restaurant menu, Nepalese India and English. Can recommend the haddock and chips.

The only fault was the bed,. Unfortunately it was too soft for me as I like a firm mattress. OK for one night though.

Helpful staff. The room was great, really large with a huge comfy bed. The lighting was really good too which makes a change. The food was excellent.

The bathroom was in and need of a refurb as a but tired but it was clean and the shower was great.

Good low cost option for a one night stay

Breakfast was very good and dinner was an unexpected mix of Nepalese and pub grub - but what we had was very tasty and reasonably priced.

Bed was uncomfortable and although clean the room was jaded and pretty small. Only a small rainfall shower which wasn't great for my wife - bring a shower cap as there wasn't one in the room. Kettle was plugged into extension lead and perched on very edge of table to reach.

Comfy warm and welcoming

Breakfast was excellent freshly cooked. Staff were so friendly and helpful the dogs got a biscuit everyday as well. Ghurka curry was delicious and Sunday lunch despite some reviews was excellent home cooked crispy Yorkshire rare beef veg cooked to perfection and lots of proper gravy. We stayed 4 nights as we were clearing my late parents house so we were exhausted and the Compasses little converted barn was well equipped - we got drinks from the bar and the bed was very comfy.The sports field next door was great for early dog walks.

Whilst not plush and super smart this little bolt hole had everything you needed.

Clean, comfortable and room niche while basic.

Nice cosy room, good temperature. Bed was quite soft but comfortable and slept well. Room clean. Decor is dated which personally I loved - gave character to the room. Very quiet area but large supermarket brand within easy walking distance. Adequate amounts of tea/coffee in room. Nice to have restaurant in the pub however if stayed again would book in advance as it was busy / full after 7pm. Nice to have breakfast included and a good choice of hot food.

Facilities very basic- kettle and a small television. Think more guest house than hotel. For the price, a good comfortable room for one night and a good location to get to venue next morning.

Wish we could have stayed longer.

The staff were very welcoming and kind. Extra towels and bedding were available in the wardrobe (though not needed). The rooms and corridors were very warm and my bed was lovely and firm. The food was incredible. Nepalese curry for Sunday lunch was such a treat if you didn’t want a carvery and breakfast was superb. Great beer too. We couldn’t have enjoyed staying more. Highly recommended.

Our Excellent stay.

This was our first stay at The Compasses inn and I have to say my husband and I have stayed at a few places but this has to be the best place we have stayed in.it was only for 1 night but our stay was excellent.The staff were very friendly and there manners were impeccable,lovely people.Thankyou for letting us stay in your Inn.

Very comfortable and good value for money.

Room was basic but acceptable, and despite being a pub, it was very quiet. Breakfast was exceptional and all in all, this was a place we’d return to.

Shower was a little tired and didn’t drain very well, and the radiator wasn’t working - but that’s all.

Not deluxe at all, dated and smells

Bed was okay. Location was okay.

Had to buy cleaning products and clean the place before settling down, bad smell in living room in particular, bathroom has mould and smells. Living room window opens onto a covered workshop, smells of chemicals, couldn't get fresh air in, which was needed with the heat. Had to pay £10 cleaning fee each night extra because we took a dog, should be in the listing. Bedroom upstairs got incredibly hot, only window was a makeshift velux one, that hardly opened, and was difficult to open and close. Front door opens into the car park, it got very noisy as there was a child on a quad bike type thing driving it back and forth. Chairs outside front door old and small, unable to sit outside. Furniture very dated and bashed up. Bedding contained feathers. One old used sponge left under sink, dirty, cafetiere had only plunger and no glass container to make coffee in! Only 2 lots of plates and cups, what are you meant to do when they're in the dishwasher, so had to hand wash, not thought out well at all.
