Good breakfast and restaurant with close Bavaria traditional experiences, comfy rooms for families

Alpine tranquility and Bavarian hospitality within easy reach of Berchtesgaden

Superb location in Alpine valley with beautiful views of meadows and mountains. Situated across from the historic Maria Gern pilgrimage church. Friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast buffet, bus across the road took us into Berchtesgaden and Hauptbahnhof. Traditional music in restaurant on Thursday nights, good local food and so pleasant to eat out on the large terrace.

Only thing I would change is not being bitten by mosquitoes while sleeping! (My friend was unaffected.)

Perfect Location

What a beautiful location. I had been to the little church, Maria Gern, 2X prior so I was excited to stay in this area. This hotel has been in the family for over 150 yrs and it was wonderful. Breakfast was outstanding. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were on the 3rd floor (USA floors) with a balcony view of the church (no elevator). Just peaceful and the fresh air was outstanding. The room was large enough for our twin beds and the temperature was good. We could watch the morning fog lift over the mtns daily. Since we had a car, getting to the Eagle's Nest, the Salt Mines, Konig See and the Wimbachklamm areas was easy enough. This hotel is truly the typical German style. We did not eat in the restaurant as it was not open on our days. We would definitely stay at this Gasthof again and recommend it highly.

Perhaps different pillows ... these were quite thin.

The pillow isn't great. Also, it's a bit difficult to manage the buses, as they stop running quite early, but it's manageable.

Guest house with a beer garden

Quaint guest house in a quiet location. Friendly people and the room is clean. The view is superb and you can see a sky full of stars at night!

The perfect location for those who arrive with a car. You can both - walk to picturesque places right from the hotel and move very quicly to a lot of other starting points.

It's maybe not a host's fall, but we couldn't understand how to use our guest card for parking in the town. The same problem explored a lot of other people from various countries.

Good value with beautiful mountain views.

This one is hard to review because I was traveling without a car, so the most difficult part of staying here was trying to get into town and back. I managed to get along ok, but had a couple of scares where I almost got stranded with no bus and no taxi to be found. If I had a car, probably would have given a 9. Very beautiful area, but somewhat remote. Enjoyed music in the restaurant one evening. Good breakfast. Overall good value.

As mentioned, public transport to get here and back was a challenge. Also, the desk isn't manned so you need to make arrangements in advance for check out, or call to get info, etc.

This is a beautiful location with lackluster services.

This hotel is in a beautiful location. It has a restaurant connected that is open some days serving traditional German fare. Some nights you can find lovely traditional music. The breakfast each morning is very nice if you get there early enough.

The hotel public areas were really messy and cluttered. The beds are very uncomfortable. There was no hand soap or toiletries in the rooms. Check in and check out was totally done without seeing any people. I understand issues with Corona but there was no way for non German speakers to get any help with issues. The restaurant didn’t have those issues.

It was ok.

It is in a nice place. cozy nice rooms. and in the restaurant they serve a good food. breakfast was good.

The staff should smile more. Most of the time we did not felt welcome to be there. When you are on holiday you really wait to be served with happy face and warm.

Rooms are dated…though bed was comfortable….except for the pillows which had seen their best days years ago, limited staff on Fridays and Saturdays due days off (self check-in, etc)

small but clean room with a balcony. Every day the housekeeping put some chocolate/candy as a gift to my bed, very sweet. breakfast was good. All you need, fresh bred,eggs,Marmelade,Nutella,cheese,sausages,fresh fruits,Joghurt,choise of muesli, juices…

first night it was a bit loud from downstairs/restaurant but it’s worse it.

Three days in Maria Gern

The location surpassed all our expectations.There is a river walk across the road hardly noticeable.Beautiful.Amazing area.

There was one waitress who almost went out of her way to be unpleasant.Why ?The rest of the staff were fantastic.

Perfect spot to start a holiday. 3 days was enough.

Location was good but up a very steep climb from the town. The restaurant had good food.

Breakfast was a bit unimaginative and disappointing. Not much choice. Filter coffee was bitter.

Superb

The Gasthof is tucked away at the edge of a beautiful valley above Berchtesgaden. From Berchtesgaden it can be reached by car, bus 837 or on foot if you miss the last bus at 18:15 on weekdays (17:15 at weekends) and don't mind a bit of uphill walking. The hosts and staff are friendly and humorous (plus they're good cooks, too!). The equipment of our room was basic but comfortable and practical (incl. a small fridge). We also had a balcony with lots of flowers and views of the church tower and the Watzmann mountain range. So if you like quaint and quiet places, this is an excellent choice.

Wonderful Hotel

We stayed for 2 nights here and it was the best choice we could ever make. Very clean and nice room with such a beautiful balcony view. The hosts were so kind and welcoming. It is also really near to the must see places and lakes of the Berchtesgaden. We can only recommend it.

Superb view, traditional bavarian house

Superb view, the view alone makes it a nice stay, the rooms are clean, not that modern, but in good condition, it looks like a traditional bavarian house, so if looking for that this is that.

Would have liked a more diversified breakfast, 4 days in a row same few things to eat was getting boring. Also, the food at the restaurant is not that great, but the local beer is very good so that compensates 😀

Excellent stay in the mountains

Family run hotel about 3km from Berchtesgaden. Stunning views from the terrace and much quieter than being in town. Regular bus service stops just outside and the hotel gave us free tickets for our stay. Would definitely recommend.
