The location (right beside old Funchal) is great, especially the sea views from the balcony. The house itself is very charming, full of character, and super clean. But the most positive point of all is the staff; Patrico, Gracia and Monica were all incredibly, warm, friendly and helpful, both during my stay and beforehand.

There was quite a bit of noise during my stay (live music late at night). But I think that was due to a festival connected to the neighbouring church. Perhaps worth checking whether that will be an issue ahead of your stay, The breakfast buffet has also been replaced by breakfast boxes (to make it easier to take your food on any excursions), this is a nice idea but there could perhaps be a few more savoury items along with the sweet!

I had a fabulous stay. The staff were exceptional. They were welcoming, very helpful and accommodating and genuinely lovely people. They were attentive to every need, and took extra time to orient me to the city and the island, giving excellent recommendations for activities and dining. The place was clean and comfortable, and the staff was available via whatsapp always to answer questions or accommodate requests. The breakfast was very good and affordable. It was a lot of food, and came boxed, so i would take it with me while hiking and sightseeing and it was more than enough until dinner. The location was perfect. Right on the sea, and a short walk to several restaurants and bars for dinner and drinks in the evening. I attended Mass on Sunday at the gorgeous ancient cathedral that happens to be right next door; a big bonus for any practicing catholic traveling to Madeira. The hotel also offers access to a parking garage for a very affordable daily rate, which is a must if you will be renting a car as parking in Funchal otherwise is next to impossible. Overall it was an excellent experience, and I highly recommend it!

I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I’ll mention here that if you are used to staying in a big modern hotel this is more of a bed and breakfast vibe. It’s charming and authentic, as is this entire historic section of the city and the Island itself.

Great location, parking 5 minute walk away for 8€ a day. Nice staff, great view and good bathrooms (water isn’t always available but if you wait it comes back). Nice mattress, pretty firm which is great.

Biggest drawback was the church bell right by our window which rings every hour, starting at 8 am. Also note there’s no elevator so if you’re older there’s a lot of stairs for some rooms.
