Rock n Bowl

Nice people. Great location. Sturdy bunks with power but no light, no curtain. Huge kitchen & a TV room make up the common areas. A shower room was near my dorm but toilets were a little distance. Downstairs bar and club with bowling alley don't run very late during the week. The cost and noise level increases on weekends so I left on a Friday. Quite a few permanent residents.

Excellent location. 5 minute walking distance to shops, coach station,10 k8nutes to harbouring etc. Staff work very hard to maintain the cleanliness and running of hostel. Fantastic facilities includes large common, karaoke and laundry rooms. Lovely friendly welcomibg hostel atmosphere.

Unfortunately some guests were very disrespectful and have low living standards leaving the toilets shower rooms and kitchen a mess. This seems to be men drinking parties. Unbearably hot during my stay. Large fan in rooms would be a good idea and partly blackening out windows would help lower the room temperature.

The location is extremely central + the duvets were BY FAR the best duvets I ever got in a hostel dorm, proper duvets and not just cr4ppy fleece blankets like 99.99% of hostels. The staff was also extremely kind and helpful. I didn't get their names but the guy who checked me in from Portugal and the guy who checked me out and allowed me to keep my bags in a storage room were great. I had been warned in an email about the noise to be expected from the bar downstairs and although honestly I was so exhausted I passed out and didn't hear a thing, it was great of the hostel to give me a heads' up.

The place is not clean at all. The staff does their best (when I checked out they were cleaning the showers) but these get nasty right away because they are showers/toilet combos and the water sprays everywhere when one takes a shower and then later someone else goes to the toilet with their shoes on on the flooded floor, tracking dirt and mud everywhere. The kitchen is also NASTY. I think a good proportion of the people staying at the hostel lives there, which says a lot about the difficulty of finding housing in the UK, unfortunately, and they seem to have an attitude of "this is my home and I don't feel like cleaning." I didn't cook once, which is a shame because I booked this hostel to get access to a kitchen + the hostel has many well-stocked supermarkets around. Beyond the state of the kitchen, the fact that many people live there also confers the hostel a weird vibe, where it's not really a place for travellers but more like a house share for people down on their luck. It was a weird experience. Finally, while the duvets was AMAZING, a privacy curtain around the bed and individual lights for each bunk would have been nice additions, and the lockers are outside the room and you have to pay to rent them!
