Great location and easy to find. Staff very helpful and welcoming
Noisy. But it’s above a pub so to be expected.

It was like a punishment
I met my mate here as it was half way between us, so we booked this hotel, it was the only one with vacancies in Abergavenny (there’s a reason for this) I have stage 4 terminal cancer, so we were desperate to meet up as friends since school (both in 50’s) , both of our rooms were filthy, stunk of smoke (I suspect these rooms are for staff and family as Netflix in both rooms are Indian.)
Curtains hanging off rails, unmaintained walls and woodwork scuffed chipped and all in 80’s beige.
Hair everywhere, it felt dirty to stay there, why would you pay £207 to leave a beautiful home and stay in a filthy dirty hotel?
My mate moaned first and they put him in another room, a family room, it was a tad cleaner but not a lot, I decided I’d go in there as I was physically feeling sick in my room, I told them this and gave back key, first I tried all other hotels but there was no rooms so shared mates room. I said I want money back for one room, and I’ll give breakfast a chance so charge for that, they refused and said I’m one of these people that always want free!! Well that is certainly untrue, I explained my situation, and the selfishness showed as they did not give a💩.. they said I was breaking law sharing, but what could I do? As I did not want smoke smells all over the bed, also no hot water in the shower.
They are very rude.
We had breakfast, they were knowwhere to be seen, the girl serving very polite, but the breakfast was cash and carry not fresh.
I’d suggest staying well away.
Next door has beautiful fresh food, and their outside booths were full all day, the kings head booths were empty, that tells you all.

All hotels should be like this.
Super friendly staff. Elegant decor. Good food, good ale. Comfortable room. Everything just right.

A spur of the moment night away.
Very last minute booking as in approx 3 hour before checking in. We had a family room which had a double and single bed. The room was comfortable and clean. There were biscuits on the hospitality tray. This is fairly uncommon these days as many hotels only provide tea and coffee.
The towels were soft and pure white as was the bed linen.
Breakfast was good, cereals, fruit juice, tea, coffee.
One of us had a cooked breakfast and the other had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Both were really enjoyable.
We only met two members of staff, the person who booked us in and the breakfast server. They were both very friendly and helpful. The room rate was quite acceptable as it included breakfast.
I would stay at the King's Head again and would definitely recommend it.
Nothing to dislike .

Clean, tidy, friendly, excellent location
7.0 / 10.0
Convenient location, friendly staff and good food but the pub on the ground floor can get noisy
Staff were very friendly and were willing to go above and beyond, helping to recommend local hiking spots and the best ways to get there. I ended up having both breakfast and lunch options at the hotel restaurant and both meals were very good.
I have two main gripes with the hotel. One was the fact that the building was old, creaky and noise travelled easily, which meant you could hear everything when people were coming back to their rooms at night. This in addition to noise from the pub downstairs made it difficult to sleep.
The other is the temperature of the shower water, which I could never get to be properly hot. The best I could manage was tepid/lukewarm water. You really want a hot shower after a long day of hiking, so this was a bit disappointing.

Pricey for standard of rooms.
Location was perfect!
Handy for dining t the pub's indian restaurant.
Able to provide adequate room to keep our social party all in one place.
Property & deco tired and dated.
Pricey for single occupancy.

Great location and lovely staff
The hotel is in the middle of the town, and we could park our motorbikes securely in the hotel garden. The staff were so kind and did all they could to make sure we were comfortable. The restaurant served delicious Indian / Nepalese food

Enjoyable last minute stay and would stay again if visiting Abergavenny
Very central. Bed was comfy. Supper and Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Thought it would be noisy being a pub in the High Street but didn’t hear any noise.

Only stayed one night but it was a lovely atmosphere in the bar the room was lovely and the staff Even better
Fantastic location on the high street, room was lovely and spotlessly clean. Hotel/bar staff were lovely and went above and beyond to serve and help.

Lovely staff but I would not return
The staff were friendly and responsive. The beds were comfortable and clean, the location cental with an easy walk to the train station. Abergavenny is a lovely town with many independent shops. Linda Vista Gardens and Castle Meadows are lovely for walks. Note that many locations (eg. museum, castle, market, library) and many independent shops are closed on Mondays.
The room was dated, which I expected and do not mind but I did not expect such a poor standard of cleanliness. On arrival the carpet had clearly not been vacuumed as there were food crumbs and hair all around and the skirting boards were thick with dust. I asked staff to arrange a clean while I went out, which they did. However, when later looking for a socket behind the bedside cabinet, I could see many months of dust and a food wrapper. The edges of the bathroom floor were similarly grubby.
The water never became hot (morning or evening) even after leaving it running a long time. The bathroom sink was partially blocked so took ages to empty.
After booking, an email warned of late live music at weekends. I stayed on a Monday and there was loud music until 11pm (I was on the first floor).
It is worth noting that as this is an old building, there is no modern soundproofing so I could hear the conversations (and snores!) from next door.

Central stay
Very central, breakfast was fine!
It was very hot but with the windows open it was really noisy with drunken revellers at the weekend. Maybe a room on the back is better

All in all very good, would recommend.
Great location in the main St, all bars and restaurants within walking distance, the room was clean and tidy, staff helpful, all in all would recommend.
There is no parking, the breakfast was ok, full English very good but there was no yogurt and fresh fruit before hand, just cereals.

A decent affordable stay, but not a good night's sleep
Bed was comfy and it was relatively cheap compared to other places. The staff in the morning were friendly
Despite check-in being until 23:00, we had a slightly uncomfortable reception at 22:30 where we had to explain that we had arrived before the cutoff listed on booking.com.
The room was very warm on arrival, without aircon and the desk fan was inadequate. Having the window open all night meant we were woken multiple times by loud noises on the high street (a loud delivery to a shop after 12 on a Sunday?)

Room worst my wife has ever had and her friend also said the same, hotel should have payed us to stay there my wife's words.

If travelling alone and perhaps needing some assistance I can’t imagine a better place to be.
The staff were wonderful. So helpful.
There was nothing I didn’t like. It wasn’t luxury but I wasn’t paying for luxury. Was clean and comfortable. Wonderful choice for breakfast (not included in my case)

The staff were very nice and obliging.
There were large windows in the room which we could open and keep the room cool. 3 The room overall was clean and the duvet was the right thickness for this time of the year. There was tea and coffee and a kettle.
The room was too high up in the hotel for an older person like me and my friend. The other people in the hotel were much younger than us. The stairway was poorly lit and the stairs felt dangerous. The shower head didn't work properly. We had what amounted to a trickle as most of the holes were blocked and in need of cleaning. We had two cups, but only one saucer and no spoons. The towel rail was so high up, it was out of reach. Hooks on the wall and behind the door would have been a great addition.

Lovely staff, lovely old building, wonderful stay!
The building is lovely.
The property is right in the middle of town, it’s an excellent location if you with to be close to attractions and shopping!
The rooms are just above the pub so you will have some noise on the weekend. However, it shuts down around 11:30.

Quaint
Very quaint. It had a lot of charm with its wonky floors and slanted doors that you expect in accommodation over a pub. Service was great, breakfast was great with a big menu to choose from. It was a Wednesday night so no noise from the street.

Nice pub friendly staff
Friendly staff and good location in the middle of town. Decent breakfast
No car park, and as it's in the pedestrian part of town, you can't drive to it, and trying to find a parking space on market Day in a car park was a nightmare. Room was small but did have everything we needed

Perfect for an overnight or short stay! Would recommend.
Friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Good breakfast included & a tasty evening meal available in the adjacent Gurka restaurant. In town centre & close to amenities.
Perfect for an overnight stay!

Clean comfortable hotel conveniently situated on the main street in Abergavenny. Friendly helpful staff at check in and check out, spotlessly clean comfortable room and bathroom. The restaurant was closed on the Sunday evening we stayed so can’t comment on the food.

Not 4 star
Good central location with nearby parking and the breakfast was nice
Rooms are very tired, the bathroom and shower were tiny, there were only 2 plug sockets no where near the bed for charging phones etc and the last time plugs like the tv and the kettle were tested was 2023, definitely not 4 star
