Great place

We rented one capsule in the mixed room and one usual bed in the female room. Clean hostel, towel is given for free, access to the kitchen, very close to the center and to a big Coop supermarket, very cozy and quiet street. I would not recommend breakfast in the hostel because it only contains a few pieces of cheese & salmon, yoghurt, croissants, apple, banana and orange. That is it. It is much cheaper to buy all of that in the supermarket and even more :D

In the capsule room, there were only 3 storage boxes, while 6 capsules. No place to securely lock your stuff like in other rooms, unless you put your stuff in your capsule (not enough space). Not enough air in the capsules, so be prepared to sleep with open capsule. Not hostels’ issue, but few nights in a row I was sleeping with an open capsule and there were 3 men with me. Their shoes smelled really bad and even an open window did not help :(

Not far walk from the train station Basel guest pass provide online.

The bed lining is all ready done on arrives. However, the USB charger by the bedside is not work, and no socket by my upper bed and I don't want to leave my phone (iPhone max pro) on charge on the share area, when being sleep. For the that reason, I charged my power bank instead, even some take it, is just a power bank. Otherwise all other area is good, easy check in online.

As mentioned above, the charger is not working on my bed side, and I believe I won't the only person mentioned, and the hostel still place me on the bed, when there other free bed. Available. Some bed the lump is even hanger out fall apart from the bed wall.

Smooth and very convenient :)

Smooth stay and everything is very well explained. I haven’t had the chance to meet with the staff but I was in contact via messages with them and they always answered to all my questions very quickly.

All was good but I think the private room should have its own bathroom, it felt a little weird booking a room for my own and sharing the shower and bathroom. It wasn’t bad though, just something to think about.

Great location and comfortable hostel

Very close to Basel SBB and access to the airport bus. The room, bathrooms, and common areas were kept clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful when I needed to get into my room after forgetting the code and leaving my phone on my bed. Throughout the day a lot of people spent time in the common area near the kitchen and bar, there was plenty of space for everyone and never felt loud like some hostels can.

It was a little confusing figuring out which locker belongs to which bunk as not all of them were numbered and there were some duplicates. There were activities listed on the weekly schedule, but as far as I could tell they never happened or if they did it was in the basement common room which I didn't know existed until my last night when I was doing laundry.

Convenient clean place to stay 5mins from Basel train station

Perfect stopover right by Basel train station. The capsule was super clean and safe, designed not to feel claustrophobic. Good lounge and kitchen, clean showers. Nice smd helpful staff.

Decent budget accommodation very close to station

One of the few reasonably priced places in central Basel… only 5 minutes walk from the central SBB station. Area is good and feels very safe, the room itself was basic with a wash basin but was clean and reasonably comfortable. Door access via code sent on day of arrival. Didn’t encounter any staff so can’t comment but the whole place seemed very decent and well run.

The room was pretty minimal anc characterless. Not even a picture on the wall. Seemed a bit cell like.

Smooth experience.

Great location and very clean hostel. Not as "livid" as I expect for a Hostel but with friendly staff and respectful guests. Just a short walk from Basel SBB and a supermarket, which is very convenient.

Perfect for a quick stay.

It was clean and the hostel room was well played out. The lockers were big and the room had lots of different lights so when getting back late you didn’t have to worry about disturbing others but also didn’t need tiptoe around with your phone torch. The toilets were clean and the space was nice and modern. The location is great right by main station. Has laundry facilities and a proper cafe downstairs with good coffee Quiet neighbourhood. Really easy check on details and social atmosphere They provide towels

Great Experience

I stayed for 3 nights and had a great experience. The hostel was very clean, and the staff were helpful and friendly specially ESRA and Suzanne. You can find everything you need, especially in the kitchen—it was well-equipped and convenient. The facilities, including the shower, were in good condition. The location was also perfect, making it easy to get around. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend it!

Great experience

The hostel and its facilities are very well described. Very very close to the Banhof. I stayed in an 6-bed dormitory,: beds are large and the mattress was comfortable. Lockers are big enough to leave all your stuff, luggage included. One real towel is provided for free. In the bathrooms you can also find real hairdriers (not a silly thing especially if you are long-haired woman). The kitchen is well equipped and clean.

Recycle bins are not near the kicthen, but they are in a corner near the main entrance. If they were close to the kitchen, I'm sure guests would use them more. I would improve the clean-ups in the dining area. Some chips stays under a table for half a day.

Great staff and value

The staff is absolutely phenomenal, they greeted me with a smile and a friendly chat, they helped me with some train questions and were very patient. They made me feel really welcome and like I was meeting a friend, especially George and Alex.

There were too many crying children around. Of course, it's not the hotel's fault. :) Other than that everything was admirable!

Brilliant stay!

Absolutely lovely stay here, you get given a code to enter and then you self check in and get given a code for your room. The kitchen is on the ground floor at the and and has a lot of facilities! Each floor has gendered toilets and joint showers. Basel has a system where if you are staying overnight in the City than you can use the transport for free so the hostel sends helpful emails with information regarding that. There’s space outside and inside to relax and it’s less than five minutes straight up the street from the station!

Not sure if I would recommend for solo travellers looking to socialise but it may just be because I travelled in the off season 🤷‍♀️ Also the lockers need a certain type of lock and I was not able to lock my stuff away which was frustrating.

It’s very neat and they give us towels. Also, we checkin by ourselves in some machines so it’s quite fast.

It’s not exactly the cheapest, but I understand, it’s Swiss after all. There are no curtains in the beds also and no normal plugs, only an USB entrance (which is better than nothing, but we all have USB C entrances for our cables nowadays)

Probably one of the best experiences living in a hostel

The stuffs are very friendly. The 6 beds room only occupied by two guests, and the beds are fine made. Guest kitchen and shower room and the toilet are also very clean.

Location is close to Basel SBB, there's good public connectivity, kitchen is big, cafe and community area were amazing.

Comparing two hostels

I stayed in Basel for four nights, two at Hyve and two at Basel Backback. So, I can compare two hostels (in both cases I stayed in a shared mixed room) Hyve's pros: it is a nicer place to stay (the design, everything is clean). As I stayed at the hostel not just for a night, it was important for me to drink coffee there and relax after exhausting trip. I could do that in Hyve. It has a pleasant zone to have meal, work at the laptop, and read. Separate WC for women and men. USB charger near every bad. Booked bed for you. Towels are included in the price. Hairdryer even with a cone for curly hair. Basel ticket is sent you in advance by email, so you can reach the hostel for free. Hyve's cons: more expensive but the tax is already included. Common bathroom. Rather small rooms. Backpack's pros: it is cheaper. Larger rooms. Separated bathrooms. Hairdryer. Backpack's cons: you choose any bad in the room. Old building and design where you don't want to stay. Common toilets. Tax is not included in the final price (like tourist tax, 4 CHF per night). Not sockets near beds. No towels. Basel ticket is given at the reception only (only paper version).

The room was extremely hot during the evening even though outside it was less than 20 degrees Celsius and the windows were open. It was impossible to sleep.

Bad check in and check out experience

Staff was friendly

Horrible check in and check out experience. Room was not ready at check in time. Machine couldn’t find my reservation at check out time. They sent so many junk messages reminding check in and check out and long long long text describing everything. Bombing my email box without useful information!
