Friendly staff and free transportation throughout the stay there. There is a kitchen to cook.
The toilet and shower are quite far from the room. Far from train station.

The hostel is just 10 minutes from the SBB Station.
The staff is very quick to help. When the desk is active, they answer right away.
I booked a double room, but instead, I was given a room with four beds (one of which was a double). At first, I thought there had been a mistake with the booking; I was actually worried that someone else might come into the room during the night.
The room felt a bit stark and unwelcoming.
I tried to contact the reception, to clarify, but after 9:00 PM nobody answers, so if you have a problem, you’re on your own.
The hostel provides exactly one towel. Apparently, at Basel Backpack, you are expected to dry your entire body with just one single towel.
During the night, I was sweating because the room was incredibly hot, and the heavy duvet made it impossible to regulate the body temperature. The bathroom was beyond horrific and dirty.
Last but not least, the property does not provide water for its guests. There was only one filled pitcher—one single jug for the entire hostel—and since it was night, there are no shop on the surrounding area to buy water. For the price they charge, the very least they could do is provide water.

The people at the reception are very nice and helpful. The bathroom was clean even if it is shared. The beds were comfy and clean.

Very convenient location near trams and buses; quiet neighborhood, cool complex. Appreciated the inexpensive breakfast, staff help, and washer. We booked a two-person private room with its own bathroom and it was perfect. Staff helped us dry clothes when the guest dryer broke.
No screens on the windows (I know this is normal in Europe but I got bitten by mosquitos in our room)!

I stayed in the 8-bed women's dorm for one week. Economical price for Switzerland. Good location, 20 min walk from the train station and Bus 50 stop to/from the airport. Excellent online communication with the hostel, and excellent reception staff - friendly, efficient, informative. A card for free city transportation (incl. to the airport) and 50% discount for museums is issued with check-in. Comfortable, clean beds and bathrooms/showers. Spacious lockers in dorm rooms. Nice lockable showers with plenty of space.
The WC bathroom has 4 stalls which are used by men and women, often at the same time - I personally was quite uncomfortable with that setup. Showers for women and men are separate, but there are 3 shower cabins for women (and presumably the equal number for men), which I think cover the entire fairly large hostel. The showers, however, seem to be infrequently used - it appears that most hostel guests (like me) know to expect a limited number of showers in European hostels, and devise some method of daily personal hygiene other than showering.

Everything about this experience was lovely. Every interaction that I had with staff was amazing, and they were super helpful. The facilities were well-decorated, clean, and fun, and exactly the vibe I think of when I think of European hostel. The beds were comfy, and this is the first hostel that I have stayed at that I haven't been woken up several times during the night by inconsiderate people. The location is perfect - a 15 minute walk from the train station (in which you walk by a Coop if you need groceries). I paid for the breakfast, and there was cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee, juice, bread, milk, etc - exactly what I needed to start the day off right.

Good location. Close to train station and shops. Check-in was easy and staff helpful
Sleeping quarters adjacent to communal kitchen and eating areas. Lots of loud conversations and kitchen food prep/cleaning activities after quiet hours by other guests who seemed unaware or insensitive of the proximity/rules.

The receptionist accepted the fault of keys (that did not open the room door several times)and admitted it happened before. But they did not fix it before us.
I reserved twin bed room, but I received 3 bunk beds room and french bed. The instruction to the room was poor and the key did not work after midnight when we want to re-enter room after facilities visit.

Showers were amazing, hot and powerful, I’d come back just for those, bed was comfy and locker is large enough to fit whole suitcase in. Staff were lovely. Laundry facilities available
Room got a bit stuffy and hot even with window open. I was on bottom bunk, glad in wasn’t up top - they are high! Wee bit hard too find location

the location, the vibe, the décor, breakfast, the kind staff, the outdoor space, the books and games for the kids.
It costs almost double the price you pay at the International Youth Hostel in Basel for no added services. the family rooms face west and a busy street (tram and cars); when it’s hot as it was when we visited, keeping the window open it’s the only way to survive. that means it’s very noisy until about 1 am.

The staff were brilliant and helped us make the most of a whirlwind visit to Basel. We liked the refurbished industrial buildings, the cool vibe, the plants and the local bar
There was sweetcorn in the sink. The rooms are quite hot and the road is quite noisy. Despite this i slept well, the bed was comfortable.

Staff were helpful, had a nice chill out room and breakfast was reasonable for the price. Bathroom and shower were super clean and they stored our luggage whilst we looked around town for free 😃

Beds could have better mattresses.

I loved the ambience and the place was clean and tidy. The rooms were adequately-sized with bunkbeds and clean sheets. They can also provide towels for rent. The location is right next to tram and bus stops which can easily take you to the city center.
The upper bunk beds don't have access to sockets so a bit difficult to charge your phone at night. I saw a fan but not sure how hot it will get in the summers. Please also note you need to bring all your own toiletries as there is not even shampoo or soap in the showers.

I liked that it was easy to connect to a bus and walkable to a grocery store and a few restuarants. The hostel has a common area for seating and some games, although I didn't play any. The staff was nice.
I arrived, but the staff were not present despite previously informing me via email that they would return. However, by the time I arrived, they had not returned. Additionally, I was not informed that a cat was in the room, sleeping with one of the guests, or that animals were allowed in the hostel. Since I am allergic, I had to relocate to another room.

Although the hostel is of industrial decor, which can feel cold, there is lovely extras that some other hostels do not offer eg free hot drinks/water, soap & paper towels supplied. It's kindness such as these which marks a hostel out from the rest in my opinion. The kitchen was an added bonus. As arriving after 9pm, I expected to use a pin code to get my key, but a staff member was working late so it was nice to deal with him.
Basel public transport is excellent & drop off is very close-I found street view very helpful to know where to go in the dark. The Central train station is approx 15 mins walk away and that's close to the beautiful old city.
Only there one night but in that short time didn't find anything I didn't like.
