Great place to stay, great location, lovely staff

The perfect location in Hamburg

The hostel is just right next to the Central Station and most attractions are just a walking distance. The room is spacious except for the toilet and shower room.

It is a long queue when you check in since it's a busy hostel. Plus you need to be extra careful when your out since there's a lot of drunkards around the area.

I will not stay at any Generator anymore.

Nothing to like

1. Toilet and bathroom were so small that there was not much free space to move around while doing business. I couldn’t brush my teeth and wash my face properly. 2. The room got cleaned once out of my three nights staying there. 3. Heavy construction pounding at 9 am on one day. 4. There is no hostel feel for me in this place. No sense of community and no information is provided by staff regarding activities, place of interest etc. 5. 5 euro for a tower and 2 euro every night in order to get a lower bunk bed are a bit too expensive.

Right next to the station, a good transit hostel

I booked Generator because I had a few hours in Hamburg before getting my night train to Sweden. The location was the main point and that is great.

The room was not clean, the bathrooms are way too small and unpractical, and the place available for working during the time there is way too loud

I may have too high expectations but theres a lot of room for improvement if you ask me.

I met quite a few people my first day, most places was clean. Theres a decent selection of soft drinks and a variety of beers.

The bar closed early both days and didnt serve much, no party. The breakfast was pretty boring but not bad. The rooms are cramped and toilet+bathroom was barely shoulder width, very uncomfortable to shower or brush teeth. There also wasn't all that many activities to do. The street outside is sketchy and you better be careful.

Bad Quality, Too Expensive.

I liked that it was right in front of the Main train station entrance.

The area is so bad. Full of rough sleepers, and you feel unsafe. The room was very small. We asked for a kingsize bed and it was a twin bed. The bathroom door didn't open completely. Very challenging for an overweight person. They had hand wash for body wash and shampoo. They offered only hand towels. No body towel was in the room. The pillow was very thin and uncomfy. The shelf on the toilet was broken and rusty.

I will rather pay 200€ for a room than doing this again

As a woman I had to share the dorm with six strange men. So basically everything could have happened, if I wouldn‘t have left. I couldn‘t do my bed, because I had no access to the sheets. There wasn‘t even the question, if everything was fine or not. The stuff seemed bored and desinterested about the customer. I work in a Hotel and I had the urge to clean up there. One of the guest bathrooms on the corridor didn‘t even have soap nor towel paper

I was happy with my choice

It is right next to the train station, very comfortable. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Bed was really comfortable

There are no guest kitchen facilities, however, in the reception they can give you a cup and hot water, so at least you can make yourself a hot drink

Clean comfortable

Great value. Bar on site was good and staff were friendly. 3 tier bunks were a bit cramped. Normal 2 bed bunks were more spacious. Lots of junkies around this area but still felt safe

It was a pleasant stay!

The staff were nice, friendly and helpful. Its in a central location in the city centre. The room and bathroom was clean.

The noise on the streets on a busy intersection. Some of the back rooms might not hear the noise. The bathroom and toilet cubicle was very small. The steel small elevator was scary too.

Value for money if just needing a place to sleep.

Location can’t be much better - at least if one’s travelling by train

The bathroom ‘cabins’ in shared rooms are horribly small, size of a plane toilet. Not great & definitely not a shower for washing one’s long hair. Beds/mattress fine, but the metal bunk bed is super noisy & wiggly when moving in it.

Not as noisy as we expected it to be after reading other reviews. The staff were lovely and our room was clean.

This is a hostel not a hotel which we weren’t fully aware of. The location while convenient for the train felt very unsafe and we didn’t want to be out after dark. There seemed to be a lot of unattended very young children running around which was unpleasant and they were often noisy. The bathroom was like that of an airplane and very difficult to manoeuvre in. The shower was so small I couldn’t wash my hair. The sheets were scratchy and the pillows were pretty much flat. When leaving the lift took about 8 minutes to get to us and get us downstairs.

An old codger giving a real overview

The location was really good, close to all transport and shopping/ drinking needs.

I could bang on about the small shower and toilet in the dorms but we have heard plenty of that. It is what it is. It is really hard to roll over in bed without hitting the plywood etc partition which echoes way more than solid metal.

Great location, super close to the main train station. The rooms are really tidy and cool fit out. There are lockers to store your bags if you check out but still want to explore the city.

The location is great, but it seemed to also be near a bit of a dodgy street where there were some suspicious characters hanging about.

reasonable for the price

the location is quite good very close to the train station, very central as well

i did not liked the vibe from the place so much, I know is exausting job being a receptionist and can be overwhelming so I cannot complain to much because they tryed to help with everything that I asked for. Also one young guy working the evening shift the day I was there was very helpfull, I acidentaly booked a mix dorm and he change me for a female room free of charge. I recommend you to try the free walking tour
